Hey guys I am going in for an ultra sound today to find out the sex of my baby! I cant wait! Good god I hope its a boy lol. Is that wrong? I just really want to take em hunting and not have to worry about guys coming around the house when they turn 16 if its a girl. Then again I guess I can still take a girl hunting I just don't know how I would feel about shooting a deer in front of a little girl. Anyone take there little girls hunting? So pumped ill keep you posted with the updates!8 points

Deer were out pretty early feeding. Some turkeys decided they wanted a birds eye view of me before they take their bath. Thunder shower during the turkey pics.3 points

Good luck with the results Aaron, but don't be surprised if the Dr. slathers your hairy gut up with Vaseline and tells you you're having a bouncing baby beer belly. I know you're excited, but it's probably best to let momma have the ultra sound done, lol. Got any names picked out yet?3 points

I've had good success without a dog simply by walking and kicking them up on my own. I also tend to hunt off of other hunter with dogs. If I see a couple of hunter with dogs at a particular field I would hunt an adjacent field with the belief that the dogs would push some of the birds into this adjacent field.2 points

I haven't seen mossy oak or real tree worn too much as a fashion statement. I do see tiger stripe and army though. I have a legendary whitetail bathing suit. It's awesome. Almost all my hats are camo and I wear them all the time. I have a few nice fleece jackets that have been retired from hunting that I wear occasionally. Or I might stop and run some errands on my way back from scouting/prep in camo jeans and shirt. I have a fair share of deer related shirts that aren't camo that I wear. I feel people judge too much. Catch me on a weekday in khakis in a nice polo driving my nice car and you might think I couldn't fix a clogged drain or have ever spent a minute in the woods. Catch me on the weekend unshaven in ripped work jeans and a dirty shirt in my beat up pickup and you probably assume I'm white trash and chances are I earn more than you. At the end of the day, don't ever judge others based off appearance. Edit. Forgot about my camo iPhone otterbox. It's a great way to connect with other hunters. They spot it and the convo goes from there.2 points

On a whim I decided to get a duck stamp this year, never done it before. A fellow stopped and got permission from my father to hunt on his place and they were good enough to let me join them. I haven't had that much fun in years! My wife told me to go and try it to get it out of my system. Fooled her though because now I need some decoys, a layout blind, new shotgun and a dog. I don't even like dogs...2 points

Can't you just turn your nock until your cock vane is where you want it or are yours glued?2 points

All different levels of bowhunters out there. The only one I worry about is me. I do my best, and can't ask for anything more than that.1 point

How much harder would it hit out of a 24" barrel compared to a 22"?? The animal would never know the difference. The slightly flatter trajectory you'd get from the few extra feet per second from a longer barrel won't make much of a difference either for what this cartridge was intended. The beauty of the .338 Federal is that you can have a hard hitting cartridge in a compact, easy to carry rifle. I think a 22" barrel would give one no disadvantages whatsoever.1 point

Co-op signs are WAYYYYYYYYYYY better than just QDM Managed Lands signs. Co-ops as stated means people are on the same page and there's many of them (people) looking out.1 point

It will be a no go for most workplaces especially industrial until someone develops a test that can test for it within the same time frame as alcohol. This test now tells within last month roughly and that's not accurate enough for them to allow the use at home and being able to enforce not working under the influence.1 point

That reallywas nuts my closet encounter with a deer two of us set up.on the opposite ends of a small.plot of wood and we're both stalking toward each toward the middle of the property with out notes and I had a bunch.of deer chime running and I had to get down and duck because a doe jumped over my head that was pretty cool and made new a little nervous lol1 point

I'm looking forward to learning how to smoke salmon when I get to Soldotna. It is supposed to be one of the best salmon fisheries in the world, on the Kenai river.1 point

I buy after the season is over, or at the tail end of it. The prices drop like a rock, but you have to keep your eye on the stuff and get it at the right time before its gone. Look online too, can find the same gear for much less. Oh, and dont kid yourself on the Under Armor. Ive tried the cheap knock offs, and theres no comparison really. Just get it when its cheapest.1 point

When it's really cold out, I still use a pair of wool pants that my grandfather bought in the 1940's. Ugly as sin and heavy as a wheelbarrow full-o-bricks when wet, but they work.1 point

I have camo shorts, some hats and a bunch of hunting themed shirts that i wear in public all the time. Who cares. Wear what you want and Ill wear what I want. Its not bad for the sport or anything else. Get over it. Sheesh. Funny joke Eddie, I got a chuckle out of it.1 point

My jacket was $60 or $80 16 yrs ago. I have 1 rip, no reason for a new one. A few yrs ago I needed pants and couldn't see spending $150. At walmart they had came clearance camo men's fleece pants for $4, they are a bit big and they were long. I layer so they are pretty warm.1 point

Yes, some people have more money than brains. I'm 59 now and I'd never spend that kind of money on outerwear. I didn't buy the expensive stuff when I was 30 either. There are other options, for far less, that are just as good.1 point

Guts out, hide off and hung in the shade at a minimum. All ASAP. Then depending on the actual temperature in the shade you could leave it for a bit, maybe covered with a sheet to keep flies off then butcher as quick as you can. I like to also stash a big bag of ice in the chest cavity to help speed the cooling process.1 point

You see! That's the type of stuff that makes my blood boil. The thought of shooting at anything next to a house you don't own or have permission is deserving of an ass kicking. I don't screw around when it comes to safety, and the disrespect issue is a close second for me because it threatens safety. People who deliberately make poor choices in one area likely do so in many areas. Poor judgement and disregard for others is a dangerous combination when firearms are involved. A guy who would shoot a coyote in someone's yard is just as apt to shoot at a deer up on the ridge behind my house. And the chance of hitting one of my family on my hill is no less likely than in that yard. I was just thinking. Maybe a thread should be started on just how a trespasser should be approached.1 point

Lol .... I have seen some lot lines that the landowner cannot even follow without a blazed survey being performed. When you get a half mile or mile off the road and over a hill, I defy anyone to know exactly where the line is without extensive surveying equipment or a properly marked boundary. Also, if your land is not marked, good luck proving that someone was over the line. It pretty much comes down to your guess against his. And as far as I am concerned, the better marked, the more substantial your case. So as far as visual pollution from too many signs, I say.....It looks fine to me and it serves a purpose, and those that don't like it can stay the hell away from my property if they are that offended by it. I purposely paid extra to have the surveyors blaze the property line, and then I posted the hell out of it with permanent metal signs and I do whatever I have to do to maintain that marked line. It's my property, I paid a lot of money for it. I continue to pay a lot of money for taxes on it, and I want to know exactly where it begins and where it ends. Back in the old days, farmers paid a lot of money and put in some gosh-awful hours to mark their property boundaries. And they didn't do that to keep trespassers off. They did it because they considered their property an important asset that needs definition. Posted signs can provide the same definition today to eliminate conflicts. The old saying that good fences make good neighbors applies to posted property also.1 point

depends on what you're hunting. For deer I've always just used 2 3/4 slugs. For turkey I prefer 3" #5 shot & for predators 3" #4BUCK1 point

My son shot this bear last week. I got to watch the whole thing from my tree stand. While he was on the ground 20 feet away. I was very proud. He is only 15 years old and this was his first big game kill. He took the time to wait to make sure it was alone and then the bear winded him and bolted. He hit the bear with the first shot while it was on a full run. He is going to be a great hunter.1 point

I have pricey knives and less expensive ones. They all do the same thing intended and all go dull just as fast with the ships and car body steel, their using for blades these days. I prefer a less expensive one afield as prone to loosing them quite often. Some of the China stuff work rather well. A filet knife is my choice for removing the flesh off the bone.1 point
