  1. Hey guys I am going in for an ultra sound today to find out the sex of my baby! I cant wait! Good god I hope its a boy lol. Is that wrong? I just really want to take em hunting and not have to worry about guys coming around the house when they turn 16 if its a girl. Then again I guess I can still take a girl hunting I just don't know how I would feel about shooting a deer in front of a little girl. Anyone take there little girls hunting? So pumped ill keep you posted with the updates!

  3. Deer were out pretty early feeding. Some turkeys decided they wanted a birds eye view of me before they take their bath. Thunder shower during the turkey pics.

  4. Good luck with the results Aaron, but don't be surprised if the Dr. slathers your hairy gut up with Vaseline and tells you you're having a bouncing baby beer belly. I know you're excited, but it's probably best to let momma have the ultra sound done, lol. Got any names picked out yet?

  7. I've had good success without a dog simply by walking and kicking them up on my own. I also tend to hunt off of other hunter with dogs. If I see a couple of hunter with dogs at a particular field I would hunt an adjacent field with the belief that the dogs would push some of the birds into this adjacent field.

  8. I haven't seen mossy oak or real tree worn too much as a fashion statement. I do see tiger stripe and army though. I have a legendary whitetail bathing suit. It's awesome. Almost all my hats are camo and I wear them all the time. I have a few nice fleece jackets that have been retired from hunting that I wear occasionally. Or I might stop and run some errands on my way back from scouting/prep in camo jeans and shirt. I have a fair share of deer related shirts that aren't camo that I wear. I feel people judge too much. Catch me on a weekday in khakis in a nice polo driving my nice car and you might think I couldn't fix a clogged drain or have ever spent a minute in the woods. Catch me on the weekend unshaven in ripped work jeans and a dirty shirt in my beat up pickup and you probably assume I'm white trash and chances are I earn more than you. At the end of the day, don't ever judge others based off appearance. Edit. Forgot about my camo iPhone otterbox. It's a great way to connect with other hunters. They spot it and the convo goes from there.

  12. On a whim I decided to get a duck stamp this year, never done it before. A fellow stopped and got permission from my father to hunt on his place and they were good enough to let me join them. I haven't had that much fun in years! My wife told me to go and try it to get it out of my system. Fooled her though because now I need some decoys, a layout blind, new shotgun and a dog. I don't even like dogs...

  15. Well the paper plate pugilists are out in full effect. You know the type im talking about. If you are one of these Im speaking about then I mean no offense. Actually id be lying...i hope i offend you into shame. At the local open archery range at long branch park. Most of the year im the only one at the place. Coming 30 days before the season and good luck getting a lane. These are the guys that dont pick up the bow all year...then go out right before the season, fix the plate to a bale and then proceed to take pop shots with there 20 yr old bows/brand new box store RTS bows they got yesterday. Was there on monday. First guy..about 18-20. Had his friend that came with him to watch. Overhear him saying this is the first time he has been out this year. Puts on the paper plate. Goes back to 20 yards. Fires 2 sets of 5 arrows each. Out of 10 arrows hits the paper plate 3 times. Says yup its on and then leaves. Second kid and I mean kid. We get talking. He is 15 years old just got his bow course done. Shooting a brand new bow only 3 days old. Ask him what bow he had before this. He advises its his first bow. I then give him the look and say, "your not planning to hunt with it this year are you?" He didnt like that very much. So lets recap. one guy who is barely hitting a 8 -10 inch paper plate at 20 yards and a kid shooting a bow for the first time. less than 1 week from season. Cmon guys, bow hunting is hard for season vets who fling hundreds if not thousands of arrows down range a year. We owe it to the animals we tend to take with these weapons to be on top of our game. To take an animal is mercifully and quickly as possible. I just have to hope they lack as much vigilence in the scouting dept as they do in the practice department and that a deer never gives them an opportunity.

  16. All different levels of bowhunters out there. The only one I worry about is me. I do my best, and can't ask for anything more than that.

  22. Caught me off guard Culver, also at the time I was chasing a garter snake and was set on catching it, then once in the trailer other then kitchen utensils and pots and pans we were out of luck. I was also like 10 or 12 years old give or take, unfortunately growing up in the city and not having family or friend hunters I wasn't into it at the time. I'm still a hunting virgin! As far as the ACO, only thing I can think of is maybe because it's a condominium community AKA trailer park they don't want to do that. I'm really not sure but to this day the handful of rabies in the community has been dealt with all by catching, haven't even heard of them using tranquilizers. The grey fox this year was caught, accidentally in a bear trap by our main dumpster.

  23. No problem at all, btw seems to be some what common over there (Sussex county). Had 3 other people being treated along with me, all because of bats supposedly. Btw I'm going back like 15 years but at the end of summer this year they caught a yote and a grey fox both tested postive for rabies. I didn't have a run in with them, also last summer had a fox scratch someone, person was fine but fox did test positive.

  24. It will be a no go for most workplaces especially industrial until someone develops a test that can test for it within the same time frame as alcohol. This test now tells within last month roughly and that's not accurate enough for them to allow the use at home and being able to enforce not working under the influence.

That reallywas nuts my closet encounter with a deer two of us set up.on the opposite ends of a small.plot of wood and we're both stalking toward each toward the middle of the property with out notes and I had a bunch.of deer chime running and I had to get down and duck because a doe jumped over my head that was pretty cool and made new a little nervous lol

  30. I buy after the season is over, or at the tail end of it. The prices drop like a rock, but you have to keep your eye on the stuff and get it at the right time before its gone. Look online too, can find the same gear for much less. Oh, and dont kid yourself on the Under Armor. Ive tried the cheap knock offs, and theres no comparison really. Just get it when its cheapest.

  33. My jacket was $60 or $80 16 yrs ago. I have 1 rip, no reason for a new one. A few yrs ago I needed pants and couldn't see spending $150. At walmart they had came clearance camo men's fleece pants for $4, they are a bit big and they were long. I layer so they are pretty warm.

  34. Yes, some people have more money than brains. I'm 59 now and I'd never spend that kind of money on outerwear. I didn't buy the expensive stuff when I was 30 either. There are other options, for far less, that are just as good.

  36. Guts out, hide off and hung in the shade at a minimum. All ASAP. Then depending on the actual temperature in the shade you could leave it for a bit, maybe covered with a sheet to keep flies off then butcher as quick as you can. I like to also stash a big bag of ice in the chest cavity to help speed the cooling process.

  37. You see! That's the type of stuff that makes my blood boil. The thought of shooting at anything next to a house you don't own or have permission is deserving of an ass kicking. I don't screw around when it comes to safety, and the disrespect issue is a close second for me because it threatens safety. People who deliberately make poor choices in one area likely do so in many areas. Poor judgement and disregard for others is a dangerous combination when firearms are involved. A guy who would shoot a coyote in someone's yard is just as apt to shoot at a deer up on the ridge behind my house. And the chance of hitting one of my family on my hill is no less likely than in that yard. I was just thinking. Maybe a thread should be started on just how a trespasser should be approached.

  41. depends on what you're hunting. For deer I've always just used 2 3/4 slugs. For turkey I prefer 3" #5 shot & for predators 3" #4BUCK

  43. My son shot this bear last week. I got to watch the whole thing from my tree stand. While he was on the ground 20 feet away. I was very proud. He is only 15 years old and this was his first big game kill. He took the time to wait to make sure it was alone and then the bear winded him and bolted. He hit the bear with the first shot while it was on a full run. He is going to be a great hunter.

  45. But we are in ny....not Ohio so laws here are different and so the responsibility falls on landowner....when your deep in state land and happen to cross on to unposted private land it should not be the hunters fault. Also deer retrieval on posted land is much easier with properly and legally posted land. As you can call and get permission

  47. I have pricey knives and less expensive ones. They all do the same thing intended and all go dull just as fast with the ships and car body steel, their using for blades these days. I prefer a less expensive one afield as prone to loosing them quite often. Some of the China stuff work rather well. A filet knife is my choice for removing the flesh off the bone.
