9 point I took on state land in southern 9P on 10/16. Sitting in the middle of a bunch of oaks, he came out with two minutes left before sunset. Saw a total of 8 deer and a bear that day. First bear I've seen with my own eyes, awesome night. Barred owls talking like crazy as the day came to a close. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk10 points

I think that was a "word malfunction". Belo probably meant to say SMALL bucks. I remember having a "word malfunction" once. I meant to say to my wife " Pass the Cheerios, Honey"... Instead I said " You've ruined my LIFE, you F*****G B***H..!! "6 points

Killed an 8pt buck tonight. I'm going to be crippled up as I had a long uphill drag and I swore I'd never drag another. He's probably a 2.5 year old I'm guessing. I'll pull the lower jaw and see what the DEC has to say about it. One of the biggest bucks weight wise I've ever killed, actually the third heavyset I think, he dressed out at 172 lbs. The drag was about 200 yards. I took this pic as soon as I found him, no hero shots in the field. I'll grab some pics for the contest tomorrow.5 points

Yes, getting a little of the blood lust out early on makes it easier to let one like that walk.. Just to make it clear- this is definitely the biggest buck I ever let walk and he would been my third biggest by bow if I'd taken the shot, but at the same time I feel accomplished knowing I could've had him but let him go. As close to 'catch and release' as you'll ever get with hunting. I'm also finding that killing one is becoming a little less important to the quality of my hunt as it used to be.4 points

We have had a lease agreement with C&H for I would guess 15 years now. The communication with Bob has been very very good. During this time it has been logged off once just recently. Bob made contact way before this process took place, any concerns we had were addressed, the loggers did a really clean respectable job, there was zero damage to any of our trees stands. With Bobs approval we have even put in some food plots, he called us when the logging was done just to tell us we were more than welcome to seed the logging trails also and he even had the loggers leave a few extra logs near our camp to cut up for firewood for the deer season. We could not be happier with our lease.4 points

Pic of my son's absentee ballot! He's away at college and sent it to me to drop off for him. His first vote after turning 18 and maybe Astorino's first vote?3 points

If this guy says he takes 200yd shots at a deer, with buckshot, then I would consider him to be irresponsible, or full of s#!t at best. Most people wouldn't try a 200+ yard shot with a slug.3 points

I have been shooting firearms at paper for several years and this year I decided to take my hunter safety courses and pick up a bow since that is all that is allowed to hunt with here on Long Isand. I joined Suffolk Archers and have been fortunate to have had some great coaching from some of the members there. I have never hunted before this season. I have spent some time scouting and lots of time reading and studying. After about five to ten sessions of ground hunting in Greenport, I harvested a small buck from a tree stand less than 1/2 hour from using it for the first time. Needless to say, I am eager to continue learning as much as I can.3 points

I hunt some pretty decent ground with some pretty decent bucks but I'm pretty certain that I would have drilled that dude!!!! Hopefully, your patience will be rewarded with a wallhanger!!!!3 points

Got a cool surprise when checking the cams over the weekend. I've only seen one before now, they're so darn elusive!2 points

I think what happened is that the guy shot at a deer at 200 yards with buckshot and saw it go down and die. Problem is, the deer was actually shot and killed by somebody else with a rifle.2 points

I'd really like to see some ballistic charts showing how much penetration you'd get at 200 yards with buckshot? Maybe one of the pellets flew into the bucks mouth and there was no one around to give him the heimlich maneuver and he choked to death?? LOL2 points

Last night turned out to be a bad day for deer but a far worse day for turkeys Shot entered from roughly 30 yards just behind armpit area and exited through the throat. No meat damaged. Not my ideal shot but a dead bird nonetheless and some fabulous dinner ahead for me and my poultrytarian girlfriend. One turkey down, at least 14 more left and one more with my name on it for this season! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk2 points

To begin, let me apologize for my ignorance in posting pictures.. However, today's pull from my trailcam is worth talking about. It has been about a 10 days since I've checked it, and I think I have the greatest variety of wildlife that I have ever had in such a short time.. I have numerous deer ( does and 3 or 4 bucks) 8 or 10 turkeys, a grey fox, NUMEROUS coons, a porcupine, a possum, a bear and two coyotes( both coyotes in the same frame). About the only thing missing that I have had in the past is a bobcat, and perhaps WOOLY in his shorts... There is a scrape in the view, and I have pictures of several bucks and a couple of does working the licking branch. Cool stuff.2 points

All those critters must have come through after I freshened your scrape with my special "Wild and Wooly Sauce",lol. Make sure you wash your hands...... I chased the bobcat away after he lost the pissing match over territory, and we may have got a little overspray on your cam. Let me know if you need help loading the pics and I'll see if I can get one of these guys to help you out!2 points

I'm always a lot more concerned with the widow-makers overhead being dislodged and taking me out. I don't cut firewood in heavy winds for this reason. Riding that tree in your photo to the ground probably wouldn't kill you, but I'm not going to put the experience on my bucket list.2 points

Wow just ate first deer heart, it's amazing! Pan fri salt pepper flour in butter/ olive oil. Disappointed I didnt figure this out till now, but without this forum I'd probably never try it.2 points

The first shot I got on a coyote was with 00buck @ 50 yds. The first shot hit and sent him into a spin so I lofted another at it. I tracked that sucker atleast a mile in the dark before I lost blood. I've since then switched to #4buck, it has more pellets and they don't deform like when you push large pellets through a tight constriction. Buckshot has no place in big game hunting. If you're limiting your shots to 100yds anyway, then even a rifled slug out of a smooth bore will perform head & shoulders above any (spray n' pray) shot. Also aren't we supposed to be frowning upon shooting at anything running through the brush? You're right, it only takes one pellet to kill. Think about it.1 point

Congrats! ALways fun when a buddy punches a tag. I honestly get as much enjoyment out of it as when I do the same.1 point

If ALL nations did not allow flights in from these African nations, you wouldn't have to worry about our southern border. It has to be an international effort, and Obama as leader of the free civilized nations should have been at the forefront with this. That of course would be asking for too much of him for a number of reasons.1 point

you guys read the comments, I have heard this too but the Anti's are now pushing for full ovary removal because that stops the estrous cycle. You know what, let them eat their homes to the ground until they allow access. lol. I keep hearing how hunters can't make the required reductions. I don't agree. in areas that need it, access, more tags, allow baiting and get it done.1 point

There are many health professionals who are unhappy with this as well. The docs are being used as part of a political agenda just like the rest of us.1 point

Of course the Brady pack would say as long as 1 dangerous person is denied, it is okay violate the constitutional rights and confiscate firearms from 40.000 others. So if someone who has a eating disorder that could potentially threaten their own personal heath is a danger to themselves. Therefore violate their constitutional rights and seize their firearm that the this person uses just to shoot clays or for shooting competitions by rubber-stamping the form. I'm not the doctor, just a middle man. Pass it on. The doctor always knows best and saw the patient. Some doctors spent all of 15 minutes with a patient on move on to the next. Quantity to make the big bucks rather than quality to get it right the first time. Using the argument by the Brady pack, you could do the reverse and say as long as it will wipe out terrorist cell X, level the whole town. Innocents be dammed because of one bad apple. This crap needs a major re-write. Should have at least a second doctor do an independent analysis before it moves up the ladder before revoking their rights. Fewer people seem to think these days. You have to weigh the good and the harm when writing laws. Laws are suppose to protect the people, not make them criminals or violate their rights.1 point

I killed a lot of deer with the mini blasters. Never had a problem with finding the deer. Seems like the price would come down with all the fancier mechanicals out there now.1 point

I didn't know the term "if it's brown it's down" was specifically meant that you were heading out to kill a fawn..........could very well be the guy who passed on smaller bucks all year hoping for a really nice one has finally decided he'll settle for the smaller 6 or 8 he passed up all season.......couple weeks ago my wife asked me if I was gonna "put the smackdown on a big old swampy donkey", haven't spoken to her since.1 point

I am currently hanging out in my Guido's Web. There is no safer or more versatile/mobile way to hunt from a tree than sling style!1 point

I'm extremely hard on boots. All I wear is rubber boots. I had mucks, lasted two seasons before they sprung a leak. Out of warranty after a year on them. Bought under armour spinex last year. Toe was coming apart just the tiniest bit this year. I emailed under armour Sunday evening and told them for $180 I expected more from them for that price. Monday morning someone personally called me from under armour and it was an American haha. I was in shock. She told me there was a lifetime guarantee on all of their products. She told me I could exchange for the same pair or a different pair for the $180 price. I told her we were in the middle of hunting season and she overnighted me a new pair of UA HAW 800g boots that I chose with a return label for the other ones. She said just save the receipt and order number and no matter how many yrs from now the warranty is lifetime for the original price I payed of $180. Now that's standing behind your product! And the UA boots are way more comfy then mucks. They have a awesome heel support in them.1 point

I don't shoot a slug gun anymore, but when I did, I loved my red dots. My favorite was my Winchester 1300 Black Shadow within 100yds.1 point

Using an Aimpoint 9000sc on a Savage 220 (20 ga.) Shoots crazy good. Also run a Aimpoint H1 on a 8x57 and sometimes swap it to the 270Win, good performance in a tiny package for low light or dark targets.1 point
