  1. So you're gonna tell me that you don't have no black cats, no Roman Candles, or screaming mimis? Oh come on, man. You got no lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, or crap flappers? You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?

  2. My son & I have been seeing this guy's calling cards all over my place since the end of October. I finally met up with him at about 3:30 this afternoon. He walked right towards me as he rounded a bend in a horse trail. I got the drop on him for about 3 seconds. He was looking in my direction, but not directly at me. I was in a 15' tri-pod. The shot took him straight on just above the heart. He was somewhat downwind & I didn't want to take the chance waiting on a better angle. He spun around & ran about 50 yards back up the trail & dropped where the picture was taken. Even after a month of rut, he dressed over 170# My son has a better picture of the rack on his phone. When I can get him to e-mail it to me I'll post it.

  3. and on a nearby tree, scrawled in blood were the words "if it's brown it's down"...........and legend has it, that on a clear, cold night, you can hear a "man child" crying softly.....eerie but true.

  8. Easy... Goober sees deer...Shoots it... Walks up to deer and discovers it has antlers..Bad news because he put his buck tag on a trophy spike opening day and only has a DMP. Guts deer..leaves vest and knife on ground.. Cuts off head to get rid of evidence.. Decides to remove antlers with his patented BOB VILA folding saw ... Saws off one antler..Starts to cut off the other antler, SLIPS and delivers a crushing blow to his testicles on the upstroke.... Runs screaming in pain back to his truck.. Bear comes in and drags off deer.. OP stumbles on scene... Seems perfectly clear to me...

  9. We had this piebald buck traveling on several farms with a couple guys specifically targeting it. It ended up killed. I hunted one of the farms it was seen on but I was not specifically targeting it and to be honest I dont think I would of shot it if I had the opportunity, a creature of this rarity just seems fitting to me to let it walk for everyone in the area to enjoy seeing it. What do you guys and gals think? Not that it matters now but curious how many would pass it up and how many would shoot to kill.

  10. Here is a pic of two pictures of one I killed in 2004 down in Hector. Not as white, but I wasn't passing her. Everyone knew she existed and wanted to kill her. I figure she had a better chance of a swift death with me than with some of the whoople heads that were hunting nearby.

  11. Legality has never been the standard of ethical behavior. Some folks may choose to do things because they are legal, but that does not make them ethical. Ethics are often personal. If baiting bears or deer is legal, and that's how you hunt, there is nothing wrong with it. To you, it is ethical. Anyone who chooses not to do it can say it's not sporting, but has no right to call it unethical. IMHO, the only thing that is unethical is knowingly violating the law, or doing something that you personally feel is not sporting. Ethics are methods that make you feel sporting, even when nobody is around to see what you did.

  12. Thanks everyone! It was a hell of a rush to do two with a muzzleloader. The story was about 9 am I had 5 doe come in behind me and being that this was going to be my last time out for the year I looked for the biggest lead doe found my opening and squeezed off. She went down in 30 yards. Then to my surprise I looked and saw this buck running and stopped in the same exact area! He started to run off and I let out a couple grunts with my mouth while I reloaded and he started to come back. Waited for him to come from behind the tree and squeezed off again. He went down 40 yards from her. Needless to say doing all this with a smoke pole was AWESOME! And I can't say enough good things about my TC Encore! All misspellings courtesy of iPhone

  18. There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

  19. to me, the guy who goes fishing and keeps his limit every time, just because he can is unethical, as is a guy who spots a deer while driving, parks and walks down the road gets the legal minimum off the roadway and kills it, or the guy who fills every deer tag just because he can, and then goes and dumps them all at some donation center.......only because I don't need to hunt or fish for food and don't see the need for anyone else who hunt's or fishes for enjoyment to do the same..........now you take a guy who needs that animal/fish for food, and I change my opinion on what is ethical.

  20. Oh man you're gonna get blasted b/c I've been down that road here. Imo, the "as long as it's legal" guys often use that rationale to explain away just shooting every animal they see regardless of the situation, weapon, etc. NYS DEC could decide to allow hand grenades dropped from air planes to further wipe out deer and guys will say... "hey, as long as it's legal"... And we all know how well government is able to determine what is and is not legal

  21. There are bad apples in every bunch, and nobody is saying that there arent. What i have said in the past is that people that hunt within the confines of the law should not be snubbed or looked down upon just because they arent as dedicated as some of us are. Broad brush generalizations that "gun hunters...." are slobs are just plain stupid.

  30. I would kill it. Pie bald genetics are inferior and bad for the herd. Its not just a lot of white in the coat, its also a whole lot of other inferior traits. Short legs, short lower jaws, smaller body size, etc. Sometimes pie bald deer have other poor qualities, but a normal colored coat. The reason I know this is about 7 years ago I shot a doe that had a fully developed lower jaw that was about 4 inches shorter than the top. I researched it and was told it came from the deer having pie bald genetics.

  31. Preach on brother. While the law does a decent job in an attempt to control humanity, what is ethical is not always legal and what is legal is not always ethical. But we were all raised differently so our values and goals differ. I'd like to think though that most decent human beings know wrong when they see it without having to go to the CFR's.

  33. I dont know if the poacher with the orange vest thing adds up, but then again, who knows. Other than the antlers being half hacked off, it sounds like someone cut themselves while gutting or something along those lines, then maybe some other guy came along and found the carcass and tried to steal the antlers or head off of it.

  36. loaded up yesterday and headed to camp. snowed all the way from rochester to camp in pa. took a little time loading up this trip between all the thanksgiving supplies and some of my deer, fish and duck mounts we had my truck full and Judy's crossover full. by this morning we had about an inch of snow on the ground which gave a nice winter background for the camp. since mother nature decorated outside it was time for me to spruce up the inside. these are in the stairway, notice the buck at the top of the picture has a double white throat patch, i had never seen one until I killed this buck last year.

  37. Well , I got plenty of ideas and responses . I checked over various phones and got the Samsung Galaxy S5 . My wife has an I Phone and is considering getting the Samsung Galaxy S5 also . I could have gotten it free but would have had to go with a 2 year contract . Paid $49 with the EDGE plan and there is no contract to be locked into . Also paid $30 Tech Armor Glass to protect the screen . It has so much more than my little Samsung Dumb Phone .

  38. Oh man do I ever love a post where we get to use our imaginations and let them run wild! Here's what I think could have happened... New guy to hunting shoots his first buck, and he's so excited! He fills out his tag immediately and sticks it in his pocket.(per law he's not reqired to attach tag just yet) He proceeds to gut the animal moments later just the way he read it was supposed to be done on line. He then realizes he forgot a piece of rope, or a drag to get this carcass out of the woods and he begins to panic someone else will steal his kill if he leaves it abandoned... he also read that on line, lol So his next step is to try to salvage the antlers by hacking them off before he realizes he just cut off a dragging handle and maybe he should save the entire head. He packs up his saw and the one antler he cut loose to show everyone back at home when he finally comes to the conclusion he has no idea what he's supposed to do next. He marks his carcass kill location with his orange vest to make sure he can find it when he returns with help to get his deer out. He gets turned around on his way back to the truck and what should have been a 15 minute hike turns into an hour. When he finally reaches the truck and sees his cell phone battery is dead, he proceeds to make the 40 mile trip back home to see if his neighbor can give him a hand getting his trophy back home. 4 hrs later he makes it back to his kill with help.. ..... stranger things HAVE happened before we all start jumping to conclusions!

  42. I spent last week hunting in the Duck Mountains of Manitoba. My first ever out of state hunt. Talk about remote! I'd get dropped off before daylight and picked up at dark. You can hunt the 30 minutes before sunrise and the 30 minutes after sunset there....wish we could here. I saw 15 deer all week. 2 were big enough to shoot, but they were in very heavy brush 200 yards out, and only there for a couple of seconds. I passed on a small 8 at 30 yards, and a couple 4 pointers. I did see a couple bull moose, an eagle eating a rabbit it had just killed, and a weasel. While I didn't shoot a big buck, I did have the time of my life! I got home at 2:30 Sunday morning. I headed out at 1:30 to my blind on the farm here and shot this 9 pointer at 3:00! He had his nose to the ground in the cut corn field at 250 yards. I figured he'd work his way up to my plot since that's where all the does head, but he disappeared into a treeline. He was gone about 10 minutes and I was debating whether I should climb down and go look for him, when he popped out at 50 yards.

  44. didn't read all 3 pages, but to be clear. You shot a buck, pretty sure he died. Exhausted the search? Then shot at another one? Had you given up on the 1st one so soon? what if you recovered both? Did you also shoot this buck on a ridge having no idea what or who was behind it?

  45. Yea I'm sure it is......until a deer shows up then excitement builds and could cause poor decisions....no excuse for what's beyond the target tho deer fever or not that is the single most important thing we all need to know...

  48. The 308 was my weapon of choice for the majority of the years i hunted. One day I shot a buck quartering away at 270 yds. Result was a hole in one lung, liver, and a broken front leg. 150 yds later I found him dead. that was at least 100+ yds further than I have ever had to track any of my dear shot with a rifle. Switched to the 300win mag after that. I will even go on the record and agree that 200 yd + shots make up probably less than 10% of my shots, but why not? Most deer I shoot now, that are 100 yds or closer (90%), drop in their tracks. Probably an average of 30 yds less tracking..lol.. Bottom line IF you can shoot it accurately why not?
