I received a great birthday present today. I found out that my daughter is ranked #4 out of 100 foil fencers in all of Nassau County High Schools. She's the 4th girl listed below: I'm a very proud Dad!

This is why NY gun laws are as bad as they are. Many NY gun owners just don't think they are bad, don't care about them, or are just oblivious to the encroachment. Carry on. Besides, nobody makes you read any of them. Why would you want to prevent equality of forum use because you disagree with the opinions of another member? That equality thing seems to be a problem with some residents of NY as well.

Interesting bias that you have there against those people that have chosen an occupation where they put their life on the line for others. Kind of blindly all-encompassing and extremely ignorant, but interesting.

I've found dryer sheets to work pretty well at keeping them away. The cheap ones from the dollar store are fine. Just tie them around various wires and hoses and change them every couple of months. I also stuff a few into my rope bags and other gear duffels. Of course my tractor shed now smells like a laundromat, but it seems to work.

There is a reason that benchrest shooters, precision long range shooters and others that want tiny little groups don't shoot semi autos, pumps or lever guns. For most situations in fairly close cover, a rifle that groups 2" to 4" at 100 yards is MORE than accurate enough, and offers the advantage of quick repeat shots. If you want to do precision shooting at ranges beyond 150-200 yards, get a bolt action. Passing up a decent shot at 40 yards because your 100 yard groups are only 4"... WHY...????..

I have been talking to employees of agencies involved in hunting and management of park land in NYS. It appears that right now may be the best opportunity to open parts of Harriman State Park to bow hunting. I put this in the general hunting area because I think all hunters should support such an effort. Three decades ago, the Palisades Interstate Park Commission open parts of the park for a 3 year trial bow hunt. This was challenged in court and the Park Commission prevailed. However, after the trial, they caved to the animal rights groups and stopped hunting. In the past 30 years, a number of enviro groups - that formerly opposed the hunt – have dropped their opposition due to growing awareness of deer impacts. Impacts that may have permanently changed the vegetation of the park. The Park Commission is discussing deer management internally. They know something must be done if there is going to be any forest regeneration. They do not want to abandon the habitat to a handful of plant species that deer don't eat. What would be helpful right now is personal and organizational support for deer management in the park being done by bow hunters. If you belong to a downstate club, please try to get a letter of support from your organization. If you are a downstate hunter, please write a personal letter. Letters should be sent to: Mr. James F. Hall, Executive Director Palisades Interstate Park Commission Bear Mountain State Park Bear Mountain, NY 10911-0427 Organizations that are near the park might want to try to meet with Mr. Hall. Is there anyone out there connected to the Conservation Council who might propose they send a letter?

First off, I've known perps to continue advancing on police officers after being shot, and many have continued to invade homes after being shot at. I do not know what "studies" you are referring to, but I doubt they are unbiased or peer reviewed. Blaming a home owner for not properly defending himself with his firearm is excusing the perps for the invasion. Next, owning a firearm for defense is a RIGHT. Owning and driving a car isn't. Mandatory anything is a deterrent. Making it harder for people to have a defensive firearm in the home simply means fewer people will have them and home invaders will be emboldened. That handgun can be used by anyone in the home when necessary. What if the wife was home and didn't have the training? Would she be prohibited from using the pistol to defend herself? "Gun Advocates" encourage training, but don't want it mandated. The stopping power is determined by shot placement. Maybe his shots were off. that's the point of the PSA. Who needs a large cap mag? Someone who misses a lot. I don't think I would kick someone in the face when they are holding a handgun.

Good luck to you, I'm planning to pull the plug on the corporate world soon myself, just hoping I survive 4 or 5 more years until I see my way clear. Money isn't everything, and a lot can be said for maintaining one's integrity. Mrs. is on board with the idea too. Can't happen soon enough, as far as I'm concerned.

Lucky bastard. Seriously though, what will you be using these for? I only ask because I personally would see no use for them in any hunting situation that I'd want If they are for wheeling, working outside or similar OK. I'm not saying I'm right in my choice of never wearing them, just my .02$

there are a lot of things I'd pay higher license fees for, as long as the money goes to the right places. Right now we pay about what a round of golf with lunch costs and we get to hunt and fish for a year. And for all our complaining our hunting and fishing is pretty darned good

Always try n take the doe with twin button bucks, with no momma to kick them out they stick to her home range and you see them as 1.5 year olds,with their first horns.

Is "politician" to general of a category?...lol. Depends on the setting for some of my answers. mice and rats, always. Squirrels and chipmunks if they decide that barns, garage, house and especially flowers beds are theirs and not mine. Woodchucks in most cases, but especially when they tunnel under my vegetable garden fence or under the back deck. The neighbors rooster....did I say that out loud?

Thunnus - All the science says that coyotes evolved to increase reproduction when they are persecuted. This was in response to wolves preying on them. In our world, they react exactly the same way to being hunted. There are always young animals looking for new territories. Older animals - and their family group - establish larger territories and keep the adolescents from moving in and breeding. Killing the older animals opens and fractures territories. The result is, more breeding and no reduction in population. For a century coyotes have been persecuted out west. What has been the result? Read 4 Seasons posts going way back. His relentless persecution has had no positive result. He blames it on Fort Drum, however, it would be no different elsewhere. He will always have too many coyotes. Too many being subjective. Outside the forest preserve, killing coyotes does not help deer. The recent coyote hunting article in the Outdoor News should have been categorized as an opinion piece in making such a claim. Anyone who wants to a quick internet search can find a lot of scientific information on the subject.

Hit that fox with a blow dryer, he should fluff up some. You can back blow it and get some fullness out of the fur.

Hartsdale is about 25 miles north of midtown NYC. I don't want this thread to turn into a debate. It's all relative and I understand your point. Have to weigh your options. I enjoy being close to civilization but still being able to hunt and fish etc. I may not have access to the best hunting and fishing but I vacation 5-6 weeks a year and being under an hour from 4 major airports is nice. NYC provides endless opportunities that no other place in the world can, not to mention the best restaurants in the world, something to do every night, etc. I enjoy that and I enjoy going out west to the middle of nowhere for a week.NYC apts are a whole other world.
