  1. My son qualified for the Nassau County Wrestling Championship Tournament at Hofstra Universty this coming weekend. He worked his ass off this wrestling season, missed some hunting trips ( not without an argument) I am so proud of him. 5 of his teammates also qualified for their weight class. My son is 99#. Good luck to all these hard working boys !

  5. My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said, "I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3 seconds." I bought her a set of bathroom scales. And then the fight started... ( not a true happening )

  7. Below are some photos from the past couple of weeks of this winter's Appalachian Eagle Project in New York. These images are from sites in Delaware and Otsego Counties that operate under my license to possess deer carcasses. For more information visit http://www.appalachianeagles.org/. To read my article on Golden Eagles in NYS, go tohttp://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/99834.html There are 10 Bald Eagles in the last photo. I was going to have you guess but it is too small to see detail. That's a napping bobcat in the 5th photo.

  8. I asked my wife to get me a cup of coffee. She immediately starts complaining that she is always waiting on me. I say to her, "I am constantly waiting on you too". She replies, "When do you ever wait on me???" I said, I'm waiting right now for you to get me that cup of coffee... That's how the fight started! True Story!!

  10. She said can you go to town for me? I said no, she hands me a list I said what part of no didn't you get. She did Not find it funny. That how the fight started. Some fights are fun some you should just give up. Belo go shopping with her you will find out that you can hit a $400 grocherie bill fast and it still looks you didnt get much. Prices are rediculous. $4 for gallon of milk or $14 for 3 pounds of hamburg is nuts.

  12. My wife & I took a little hike this morning to a local park. Snowshoes were the mode of travel and it was fun and great exercise. Along the way we were right next to Ellicott Creek and we saw where the local beavers were working hard. I'm always intrigued by their work. No dam that I saw, just trees that being worked on. Just another amazing animal amongst us! I grabbed a couple quick pics with my phone of some smaller trees and unfortunately didn't snap a shot of a couple HUGE trees, probably 40" in diameter. I don't know if they'll ever get through them!?!?

  13. My understanding is that fireplaces will be exempt from the regulations. Politicritters like their fireplaces. Similar to the tobacco tax laws that exempted cigars and pipes. It's very important to not inconvenience the ruling class when making laws.

  15. I said AR will not do anything for most hunters who want a trophy to fall in there lap. He said a one buck only would help. I said help what, he said get him a easy trophy. Easy LOL, I said, " Maybe if you got out of your tree stand and actually hunted you might have some chance at getting a real trophy." And that's when the fight started.

  16. People considered to be important BY WHO… is the whole problem. Pin headed actors, musicians, politicians and good test takers are, for some reason, touted out by the media and held in much higher regard than the average working class person.

  21. I can't wait to see proposed legislation requiring cats to be leashed. LOL! Allowing cats to roam free should be banned though. Feral Cats should be trapped and euthanized. Maybe that would prevent some cat owners from setting them free when they no longer want them.

That's fine you did all that but why couldn't you clean tractor and in front of garage? It's all I wanted."...THAT'S when the fight began....

  25. I need to do this. I'm in this much deeper than I thought I'd be cost wise already. Wasted a lot of time and money trying to find the right combo and results I needed and got ripped off a few times in the process due to my own ignorance. Things should quiet down some now that I'll have one main set up, one back up, and a back up for my back up...

  26. Actually Elmer these things normally run at 3.5 to 5 volts. The liquids, called juices, are made of vegetable glycerine (used in almost all baked goods purchased in grocery stores), propylene glycol (also commonly used in baked goods as well as toothpaste, skin moisturizers, asthma inhalers and hospital air filtration systems), food flavorings, and a nicotine concentrate if you want. Someone gifted me some pretty amazing stuff Wooly, or I'd still be puffin' on the egos. The MVP was about my only expense other than juice. Yeah, I like MBV's Extreme Ice. It's my ADV (all day vape). Fast and cheap, just like my...hmmm...toboggan. Yeah, that's the word I was looking for. Toboggan. Get a topper that you can can build your own coils on. Tank or dripper doesn't matter. A lifetime worth of coils and wicking material for about 20 or 30 bucks. And the flavor is so much better. Like kissing a....toboggan. Yeh, a toboggan, that's it.

  28. What about fire places?? The day they tell me that I can't have a fire on a -0 winter day is the day I burn old tires and dead baby seals in my backyard fire pit. ….If I can find dead baby seals…Maybe I'll just throw some wood on top of the tires, but you get my point….

  29. My neighbor across the road has a busy beaver that's been working the creek bottom for a few years now. This past fall before hunting season, he went through and freshened up his posted signs with a new frame of fluorescent orange paint around each sign along the edge. On my way out one morning I noticed damn near every tree that had a sign on it had been reduced to a pointy stump and a pile of wood chips, lol. I think the beav thought the landowner was marking what trees he wanted removed and was trying to help. I've seen a few spots where they've dropped 60ft poplars further downstream and chunked them up into 4 footers to haul them away. They sure can get a lot of work done in a short time.

  36. This is but another example of EPA and other government agencies working with activist environmental groups to sue and settle on claims that afford leverage to enact new regulations which they lack statutory authority to otherwise accomplish. “Sue and settle “ practices, sometimes referred to as “friendly lawsuits”, are cozy deals through which far-left radical environmental groups file lawsuits against federal agencies wherein court-ordered “consent decrees” are issued based upon a prearranged settlement agreement they collaboratively craft together in advance behind closed doors. Then, rather than allowing the entire process to play out, the agency being sued settles the lawsuit by agreeing to move forward with the requested action both they and the litigants want.

  37. We were in Fla. At a lighthouse a worker hears me talking guns with my brother in law, we start talking deer hunting. He says he goes back home to Wisconsin to hunt, the deer are small in Fla. A woman is listening and comes over and says, " I wish someone would come to my farm and kill them I got to many ". Oh I ask," where is your farm"? Illinois she says !! Let me introduce my self.....

  39. The biggest reason Id like to see everyone surveyed, is so that noone is sitting there crying foul because they have never ever received any survey about any issue from the DEC's random samplings. It would be pretty easy to setup.

  40. I believe the most attractive selection of the 5 is the last one that favors No changes at all. That selection is reinforced by the fact that they find it necessary to come up with yet another dissecting of the state. I fear that by the time they are finished with this boondoggle, the odds of keeping all the boundaries straight and the unique set of regulations within those boundaries, they will have established yet another case where hunters are never 100% certain that they are not violating laws and risking heavy fines. I want to see things heading back in the direction of simplicity where all conservation laws are looked at and evaluated and discarded if they make no sense or are flat out wrong. Get that stuff all reduced down to bare-bones and then we can talk about responsible ways to add new restrictions. I have watched a ton of laws discussed here on this forum where obviously no one has a clue what they mean or how to accurately comply. No one should need the services of a lawyer just to hunt.

  41. OBR has worked in those states to produce quality bucks and a quality hunting experience...older age class buck harvest structure as a result. Ohio is similar based on alot of data points. Similar hunter density, similar wide spectrum of soil quality (our NZ/SZ line is comparable to their NE/SW line). Similar ag productivity, similar forested %. Ohio has much better deer hunting on a macro level.

  42. Thanks for the offer. Don't get me wrong, I do like it. Just not enough to spend the time shooting a doe and losing that time I could have a chance at a buck. I used to pay $90 and get a whole deer butchered and ate it all, but then the opportunity to get backstraps/steaks only and donate the rest for free seemed like a better deal for me.

  43. here we are, arguing religion and politics again. I do like the folks that want to distinguish between the "meat hunter" and the "trophy hunter" If you truly want to master hunting hunt a 4.5-5.5 year old doe. She doesn't ever get stupid cause she needs get breed. But that would make you a meat hunter. Or go up into the high tug hill or Adirondacks and find a 2.5 year old spike with 12 inch horns, ooops, can't shoot him.... when its the only buck I've seen up there in 3 years? C'mon. Hunting should be what you take out of it and television, with their advertisers are destroying the camaraderie that should be an integral part of the sport. It's gone folks, right now it's ME, ME ME, My and I.

  44. I would be against the one buck rule. If I shoot a 8 on LI with the bow that would mean no hunting with rifle in the ADK? Makes no sense. I purchased a bow tag to be able to shoot one with my bow, rifle tag for another. Even though I trophy hunt I am against AR, let us shoot what we want. AR's do not improve the deer herd they only help yearling mortality.

  45. zones will be key. People in Monroe county and on the island have deer eating their shrubs. Those in the daks can go days without seeing anything brown. It's really another case of the state being vastly different throughout.

  46. Regions 8 and 9 would need four points to a side to advance the generally accepted rate of one year olds to two year olds. Four points. That's stupid and I base that on common sense; no data needed.

  47. 1. you need thousands of acres to effectively implement ARs. In NY that does not exists. Trying to manage ARs on a 30 acre piece will never work unless all your surrounding hunters agree. It's not that easy. 2. Public land is one of the best places to put in ARs. Shoot the doe and maybe you might actually see some decent deer if every fork and spike isn't being mowed down.
    1 point
  48. Our Deer Management plan is so far behind other states it's not even funny. Even if NY does decide to do this more laws will be broken and a lot of people will be getting away with it due to the lack of ECO's out there. What is actually going on with the money in the Conservation Fund?

  50. At this point with NY hunters barely keeping up with population control of whitetails... any restrictions that could result in less participation or decreases in hunting interest... would be counter productive. Reducing the number of buck tags and /or the length of the season will light the fuse... add in AR's and the whole thing will blow up. Everyone just needs to shut up and hunt.
