  1. G-Man.... I tried the silent dog whistle years ago but I quit using it because I kept calling in my Mother-in Law...

  2. People who do this, and other type of littering in the woods have no respect. Carry in carry out does not even cross their mind. The fact that beer/drinking is so important to some people that they must drink and hunt is disturbing to me. Please dont think that I am a saint, I like beer, but as with anything, there is a time and a place.

  3. The only change I would like to see is the addition of crossbows to the bow season.I don't think having a open free for all season where you use what you want is the answer, when you look at it we have that know. Its called rifle season. You can use rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, pistol, bow and crossbow in it

  4. I don't know what apalls me more, the total lack of respect for our wildeness and complete ignornace of people who toss their beer cans in the woods OR the fact that people think it is ok to consume alcohol while they are hunting with a deadly weapon! I shed hunted for about 6 hours yesterday and came across no less than 50 beer cans in the woods. I came across a tree stand that had 12-15 laying around at the base of it. People disgust me.....and scare me.....that they would even fathom drinking and shooting. I can walk deep into any set of woods and always rely on fiding at least 1 beer can. Crazy. Done venting!

  7. It looks like I will be going to Ohio to take my nephew out turkey hunting last week of April. I call this dress rehearsal. lol I will make a list before going and add to it as I figure out what I forgot. Water bottle, themol cell, etc. Can't wait it has been a long cold winter and I am looking forward to hearing the mornings wake up from the turkey woods.

  9. I don't understand why they would leave the jawbones behind and not just drag the whole pup away? It was almost a methodical approach to how the little ones would meet their demise which was part of the reason I suspected the mother... I've seen the little ones play fighting before and they'll grab each other by the jaws, but I don't know if that's of any importance or means anything in these situations.

  10. My wife knew going in that Sept 27th thru Xmas was pretty much spoken for. After starting our business i have backed off alot on the time away. I believe when you have a wife that does not hunt but has no worries in life as far as money, bills paid and so on it makes a big difference. I mean if life is not good for both of ya's and one of ya's want to go play and spend money doing it....That will ALWAYS cause big problems.

  11. I admit it sort of bums me out to hear you guys talk about 'being allowed'. May everyone find the husband or wife they want that is based on love, communication, and compromise. Good luck to everyone still looking for that.

  12. Did you hunt prior to getting married, or only start afterwards? Your answer matters.

  13. There is an Alaska Hunting/Shooting forum I read all the time under the spell of the same fantasy. As I understand it for dangerous game you want big and slow (it's all relative) so your .375 & .416 are favorites as backups for any brown bear hunting. You need to break bones. Magnumns are a long distance thing. You'd kill the same size game with a 300 Weatherby as a 30-06 but at longer ranges and may have problems with a very close shot without super premium ammo, either no expansion or explosive and shallow and unedible. I still want a Weatherby magnum though. Bill

  24. When I was first getting into turkey hunting, I had this idea that I needed to learn, own, and use every call that is out there. Experience and time has taught me that all locator calls work sometimes, but not always. Being in a prime location is your best bet, and if a gobbler is going to sound off, more often than not, the sounds of nature or man-made noise (a fence gate or mindmill creaking, a jet, motorcycle engine, or distant gushot) will do the trick. If I'm trying to roost birds the night before, I'll either try an owl hoot with my own voice or use a coyote yelper call.

  25. In theory, an owl call is for locating roosted gobblers either pre-dawn or after sunset. I use the owl call mainly the week before season opens in the pre-dawn hours. As smart as a tom is, he'll generally roost in the same vicinity during the breeding timeframe, if...undisturbed. Hooter is put away after the sun comes up and the crow call comes out. In my experience, they do NOT always respond to a locator call! Have heard toms gobbling at fire or police sirens, car horns, neighborhood dogs barking or any noise that will evoke a shock gobble. Toms will (generally) respond to a gobble, but use with extreme caution and only if you absolutely know you're the only hunter around. Definitely not advised for public land use!!!!!!!!!! They'll also usually respond to a hen yelp, but you had better be ready to instantly s/u if you get a tom responding. These locating calls have worked for my style of hunting, walking around trying to locate a gobbler (run & gun) after any stationary sunrise s/u. Suppose different calling stategies are required if you're s/u in a blind trying to intercept them along known travel/feeding routes. The disclaimer to using locating calls is that if not authentic, natural sounding or overused, you may not get a response to them. Secondly, they are wild animals and have moods, each one is a little different Not unlike a buck chasing a doe, a tom with a hen(s) has one thing on his mind and regardless of what you do (calling) he may not want to disclose his location and lose his chance at "love" with his bird in hand! lol

  33. Thanks everyone! I have no clue where the mate to that antler is. I covered every inch of that area the last two days and I got nuthin'! I checked with ALL of my neighbors last year to see if any of them had any right antlers from him, but no one has... or at least no one is admitting to it. Today I made a run to another one of my usual hot spots when I got tired of trying to match Tubby up, and once again I went home shedless! I just can't seem to find where they all went this year. I did find a buck I had on cam from summer that I called Goofy. He finished off with a pretty wild rack, but we wont be seeing any more of him.

  37. Its all balance. My wife doesn't have a problem with me hunting. She is only concern about my reckless head first charge attitude. When I'm hunting she would use the time to do her own girl stuff, hang out with her friends, etc. as long as I spend enough together time she is okay. Having kids changed that. I use to some times hunt all weekend. Now, when I get back home, my wife looks like she just went 3 rounds with Mike Tyson. So the compromise is I only hunt one day out of the weekend and then it'll be my turn against Mike Tyson while she relaxes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. The best husband wife relationship I have seen is a friend's father, he goes hunting (out to camp) Oct 1 and returns end of season in dec. He goes home on Thursdays to do his laundry, though him and his wife take everyday she let's him go as long as she can go on her shopping trip with her friends for a week to some mall somewhere (every year it changes) almost makes me jelous of his relationship. Work for them for almost 50 years now

  41. Honestly my wife has never complained about me going hunting. Since marriage and kids I have voluntarily cut back on the amount of time I spend hunting. I don't hunt a fraction of what I used to and I am fine with it. That is the proper and responsible thing to do in my opinion. Life is not all about hunting and family should come first.
