  3. It's a toss up, the snow covered field was last gun season and I just like that pic. The other speaks for it self , remember it's all about stand placement ! Try to set up between the seats and the bar!

  4. 4 pt 0830 am, almost gave up early this morning before I saw him. 25 yards broadside and rage hypodermic 125 HAMMERED him. Pass through blades still sharp and straight. Shot was a little back he trotted 20 yards, did the tail flicker for 30 seconds and fell over.id guess 120-130 dressed. My buddy and I have had many close calls with him but let him walk because we didn't feel the shot was right. Glad we did.

  6. 8g is starting to pop. Did some scouting Friday and found a rub line with 3 scrapes within 20 yards. Snuck in Sat in the rain and put a stand 15 yards off the middle one. This morning had a perfect east wind. Got out in the stand about 6:30am. By 7:15 three does walking down a rub line. They didn't seem in a hurry so figured no buck was following. The last one was big so I took her. Figured it was early and didn't have to be to work until noon. About 45 mins later I hear some branches breaking. 25 years away a basket 8 is tearing up a tree. He finishes comes out and works his scrapes. Neck was all puffed up and the hair on his back was standing up. I let him finish taking a leak and let one rip. Put it right through the heart. He only went about 20 yards. Was down at my dads having a cup of coffee by 9am with two deer in the back of my truck. Best of luck to all my fellow hunters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. This past weekend started out for me on Friday. I called in sick to work as we had the perfect winds for hunting the set situated for the buck Im after. I sat on another farm in the morning, then went and picked my daughter up at school. We headed to the farm and decided to go swap camera cards quick before we went to our stand. On the way to the first camera, we came to the cow pasture, and about 125 yards away were a few does. We stood behind some brush to see if they would leave, but no suck luck, so we detoured to another spot to change cards in another camera. We checked the sugar beet and turnip plot, and swapped the card. We then headed up to our stand, and as we got to the pasture fence, I saw a deer across the pasture, near our stand area. I scoped things out with my binos, and sure enough, there was a couple of bucks and 3 does out there already. We were about 20 mins too late to get in the stand ahead of them, and it was only 3pm. I decided we could get around the pasture and still get near to the stand and possibly setup on one of the typical exit routes and see if the deer headed that way. No such luck, the bucks ended up wandering off in another direction and the does bedded in the pasture. Both bucks were very nice 2 year olds that I wouldnt have shot anyhow. We snuck into the stand and climbed up and got setup with 3 does bedded 80 yards away in plain sight. To say I was impressed with my daughter's ability to do so at 11 years old, is putting it lightly. We sat and ended up seeing 7 different does that evening, and just a few minutes before sunset, a nice doe started walking in to one of my shooting lanes. I got ready and as she stepped into the lane, I took my shot at 30 yards. I saw the arrow headed right for the boiler room, and all of a sudden its path moved up and the arrow went right over the doe's back, and she took off. I watched her leave and then looked back toward where my arrow was and noticed I had nicked the only branch that I hadnt trimmed at the very edge of my shooting lane. I guess I had a bit of tunnel vision as I concentrated on my pins and the deer, and never noticed the branch. I really should have let her take another step, but I got anxious and let it rip as soon as she got by the trunk of the tree. My bad. We ended up sneaking out of there once the other does cleared the pasture, and headed home. Saturday we hunted the evening at the other farm and ended up with 2 does, a fawn and 2 yearling bucks for sightings, with only the two yearling bucks ending up in range. Sunday we didnt hunt, as my daughter woke up with a pretty good fever. The next two weekends, Ill be on my own. Maybe Ill even give self filming a shot, seeing as I wont have my camera girl there with me. Pics to follow...

  11. Only time that ever happened to me was at the bow rack at Dick's. I sat there pulling and pulling like an idiot. Then, when I looked at the bow the string was zip-tied to the cables to prevent customers from dry firing.

  14. 10/17/15 I get to the stand in the dark with only one low snort as I came in, great not too bad I think! Nice and quiet. I figure let me get the GoPro out because morning is usually good action. As I open the zipper to my day pack I notice the lights are on so I try to turn it off and it starts beeping and flashing and ARG!!! R U kidding me! This goes on for about a minute before I finally get the dam battery out. Then I hear the tell tail noise of a big deer walking AWAY! Figured I blew the area so I smoke a but only to notice a doe directly below me, she heard me put it out but never looked up. That was my only morning action. 3pm and I'm off stand for a stretch and notice a small buck 65 yards out. I get back in stand and 20 min later a small doe dives into some brush 10 yards out and froze. I figure she was trying to escape the young bucks harassment. Saw another 3 doe at about 120 yards. Doe in the bushes did not leave until I did. 7 deer total 1 4pt 10/24/15 2nd day hunting and it was for half a day. Set up and in stand by 2:30. Had some good action seeing 10 deer total with one 4pt pushing doe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slrgU4-4s5k&feature=em-upload_owner After some more calling I was able to stop what I thought was the largest doe and take her at 22 yards. My first with a bow and I was able to get it on video. I pulled up slightly so the shot was high. Rage did the trick as the arrow broke off and spun around, no pass through. I don't think my death grip on the bow helped my form, lol. She went 40 yards, blood trail was spotty a couple of times. Gave her until dark to wait but you can hear her pile up in the video. 10 deer total 1 4pt and my first bow kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok&feature=em-upload_owner

  17. As a previous jp and a soon to be elected again, I sure would recommend not to do any type of sabotage such as the strips to cause damage. You will be liable for any damages to their equipment and injuries your criminal negligence caused. I see the hunter insanity us rearing its ugly head again.

  18. 5.5 year old bow kill in 7F. One back leg had a lot of scar tissue we figure the buck at one point had been hit by a car causing the rack. This was an antlered doe from 7M

  19. I have had nuisance permits given to me by farmers and have taken does during the summer months . I shoot the doe for meat not for the sake of shooting them only to let them rot . The land gets posted and the only hunters / shooters are the ones that have permission so that the farmer knows who is on his property . Many farmers didn't feel it was necessary to post until some yahoos would park vehicles where they didn't belong and have to get towed out of a field or climb over fences and do damage . Then the posting began !

  20. The DEC doesn't "let people post their property". It is a right of landowners to do so. I know several farms that get NP's - every one of them is hunted. Just because they are not open to anyone does not mean they are not hunted. They get the NP's because not enough deer can be taken in season. They react to pressure quickly, pattern the hunters and change routines.

  21. The Dec lets people post their property for the sole purpose of shooting trophybdeer? I did not need the permission of the DEC to post my property. How I hunt it and what I legally shoot is no ones business. I have not heard of dmap permits given for non agriculture properties. May happen, but I do not see why

  23. A friend kept telling me that reusing an arrow, that you killed a deer with was good luck as long as it was still straight. I was shooting aluminum then. I cleaned up an arrow that I took a buck with the year before, and tried it on my block target. Apparently it wasn't completely straight. It missed the block, it went through my shed, sliced lengthwise through the cushion of my wife's lawn chair that was in the shed, went through the top of a bag of charcoal (or maybe it was potting soil or something) and stuck in the opposite interior wall of my shed. I don't re use arrows

  24. You would be surprised how little the deer care if they're used to it. A place I used to hunt in Albany county had a lot of joggers and dog walkers. The deer weren't bothered at all since they saw it every day.

  25. I'll start from the beginning, today my friend is in his climber in the wood 40 yards off the atv trail that runs behind our place, not our land but have permission to be there. 4 atvs come screaming by headed right for our place, we know where they are headed because there is a tree down across the trail been there for months and the only way around is through our 30 acre lawn. He texts and my fiancé intersepts them mid law on the way to her blind. She explains that they are on private property and can't be here especially because we have a 400 yard active shooting range. They tell her they have permission from the land owner a obvious lie as we have had the place 15 years. Fast forward 2 hours I decide to sneak to our new blind at the top of the lawn that over looks a over grown field edge. There are atv tracks leading up to where it was.... No where to be found... I do a little searching and find it 20 yards into the field through a trampled path..... Guess they didn't like that we told them to stay off the property.... I am now going to place home made spike strips across the enterance to our lawn!

  26. Now this might sound strange to you hunters up north!! I'm in DMU 3M I would really like to know how the DEC hands out nuisance permits to people who post there property and only allow certain hunters to hunt it. the DEC lets people post there property for the sole purpose of shooting trophy deer then turns and lets the same people shot doe's out of season and let them rot! yes they leave them to rot sometimes gut shooting them just to get them off the fields and die Now before you get mad at me understand I'm a farmer and a hunter too its just unbelievable to me that my fellow farmers and orchard owners can let someone (a privet club) post there property then get nuisance permits to thin the herd it makes no sense if theirs that many deer here and believe me there is their like rabbits! why not make it so you at least have to use the deer IE donate it to a food pantry or self consumption letting them rot or burying them is nothing but a waste.

  27. When you think about it.. a tax, on honest, hard working, responsible gun owners, would solve the gun violence problem caused by dishonest, career criminal, repeat offending, parole violating, constant victimizing, bottom feeding scum who couldn't care less about any laws. You know?? Like the repeat offending stains who live in places like Chicago, Baltimore, NYC, South Central L.A. Syracuse, Utica ETC...I mean these "Politicians" talk about the gun violence in these places all the time because their not total cowards. Im sure that this "Congresswoman" went to college and is way smarter than us….So…I mean think about it…She must be right.

  31. Just got home from hunting Letchworth this weekend. Our group of 3 saw a few but only one legal buck in thickets. I was disapointed in the low number of doe spotted.I did experience a first Sun. evening sitting in a pine watching the bushy cover and out to my side comes 4 Black Bears. Not very old / big, but I thought it was pretty cool to see.

  33. I was watching an episode of some show on nat geo once about game wardens. It took place in California, but they explained they didn't need warrants to check trucks, locked containers or property. However, there was some jargon about finding something illegal that wasn't wildlife related. I dont remember the specifics. That doesn't mean they could retrieve a dead deer, but I thought I remember something about them having a little more power than your average cop. someone please correct me if i'm high.

  34. I had a call from a deer hunter that was charged by a bear last evening. She managed to hit it twice with her 30.30 and it veered off and ran away. She and her two sons tracked it for about 300 yards before losing blood and backing out. She reports blood on both sides of the trail in some spots. I met with the hunter, and her husband and son at 7:30 this morning. The hunter couldn't identify the hit site, so we went to first blood. Luna immediately picked up the track and away we went. Blood was scarce from the beginning, and only got worse as we went. We started off in an area of thick brush which lasted for a few hundred yards and we'd occasionally see some blood on on vegetation, rarely any on the ground. The track took us through two swampy areas, and one area of hardwoods. Luna worked beautifully through checks....so much fun to watch her figure things out. More than once we went hundreds of yards with no sign, then I'd find a little smear of blood on a sapling or bush. It was easy to tell when Luna was on track because she'd be pulling very hard. After one of the long gaps between blood, we found some in the swamp. The hunter couldn't get over Luna's nose. "How'd she do that? We're in water" she said. After over a mile on track, I told the hunter I believe the bear is still alive and I'm ending the track. We never found a bed or large amounts of blood, and this was after the bear being shot almost 16 hours earlier. The hunter and her husband agreed with me and we began our trek out. I consider this a very successful track. Luna performed flawlessly and continues to amaze me. A couple times in the hardwoods she got sidetracked by squirrels, and when I told her to "leave it" she did so immediately. Swamp dog definitely needed a bath when we got home!

  37. Video from last night. After a half hour of chasing a doe around the ravine I was in, these two decided to test each other a bit. Hasn't really heated up and the young bucks haven't figured what the right time is yet. Was like a Friday night out for college freshman frat boys. young scrappers.MOV This was about 25 feet from the bottom of my ladder stand.

  38. Well I had a friend sitting in one of my stands last week, the logger drove by his stand with the skidded 2x driving him insane and he rattled off a text to me complain about it, I told him to stay put the deer didn't care. He moves and not 20 minutes later a nice buck walks thru, all on trail cam, can see skidded go down and back 2x and 20 min later a buck walks out eating, but he was gone to another stand...sent him.the pics he's was oh...guess I should of stayed... We are bothered by more stuff than the deer are , another hunter walking over to see of you saw anything , at. Buzzing thru, hose back riders, cars on a quite dirt road your hunting by, the neighbor cutting trees, fact is deer know when they are being hunted and when they arent..

  40. And it's not a disrespect to people who are bow hunting and are working hard to be invisible. I get it. But when you're on state land it is what it is. There's no other way around it. And I can't imagine any Hunter being purposely disrespectful to another hunter in the woods. I can guarantee that if those guys who are pheasant hunting knew you were there I'm sure they would went the other way. In the end we are all in the same boat together doing the same thing we love to do.
