Been up since yesterday morning. Mom in hospital , ambulance picked her up at 11:30 pm last night. She's 89 and oxygen was low and slid off bed and couldn't get up. All good now and shipping her home soon. Cat scan , Eco , no pneumonia, no flu , all ok. Gets winded easily but this was more than usual. Just happy she looks and sounds 100% better. Had my dad here for same thing last week. Anyhow , found these neat life preservers in the bathroom. They think of everything here !!5 points

Yesterday my brother and I went out for the last day of duck hunting, and once again he shoots a Brant w/ 2 bands, one on each leg. Congrats to my "baby" bro. He did the same thing 2 seasons ago. The bird he shot was banded in 2010 in a place called Coral Harbor, Nunavut Canada. (Approx 1500 miles from Long Island) pretty cool4 points

Got into my stand early as i was hunting state land and it's first one in gets the spot....took a drag rag soaked in tinks.By 715...had only seen a small doe and squirrels. ..decided I would use my grunt call ...just lightly. I then checked my phone for peak times and it said 7:41 am til 10:50am....looked at clock on my phone and it read 7:41...IT WAS THEN....I heard a branch break directly behind me. . I slowly turned what seemed like forever to see antlers ..now I have to put my phone away and get my glasses on without this buck who is 10 yards behind me seeing any movement...I used the trunk of the tree for cover then clipped my release on my bow string and began slowly turning again.... He is looking for the grunt call he heard.. He starts to walk away quartering perfect at 15 yards ... I drew back my bow.. Picked my spot and waited and as he reached my spot I stopped him with a "mah"....released my arrow to see it hit him perfectly in the shoulder and he ran out of sight with the arrow sticking out just barely.... After an hour of waiting I got down and while searching for blood I heard someone say HEY...... I looked up and said where are you ? Another hunter waved his arm in a tree 60 yards away.... He says your deer is right in front of me where have you been come and get him...I jumped with exitement... Funny part was ...i never knew the other hunter was there he was a hunter from Maine who heard me stop the deer heard the bow release watch the deer run right towards him and died in front of him what an experience... Sorry so late with story4 points

Same people calling him a jackass are the same people that sit at the bar and say " The only way their getting my guns is from my cold dead hands" Please you wouldn't stick up for your mama lol. We are slowly losing grip on our rights and what our kids and their kids will have to live with is a real scary reality.3 points

Full disclosure: The info I get is from a friend of mine who is a 4th generation rancher in Idaho, just across the Oregon border. He has a number of friends and acquaintances in Oregon, and their concerns are very real. These folks are losing their livelihoods to an out-of-control Federal Government. Are these folks biased in their opinions? They most certainly are. Am I biased? I'm finding it difficult to not be biased, given the facts. It's not about "rancher welfare" or the maintenance of bird-watching sanctuaries. It's about a handful of people who wish to be kings, and a populace deciding whether they prefer servitude to citizenry.2 points

Was a beautiful day yesterday so I lit the coal. Wanted to work on my Riveting and mortises so I gave a candle holder a go. I had the glass sitting around the garage so I modeled it around that. It's about 12" tall for scale.2 points

I would love to know the facts and hope we will get them soon. Foiling the Police? You are smarter than that to think that would get you anything other than a target on your back. Is everyone that disagrees with you a blind follower or "zombie"? If so, what does that make the few that agree with you?2 points

I feel bad for the State Trooper who shot him, making him do that is bullshite. I dont know the officers political views, but most rural police are going to be pretty conservative. The politics aside, when you are pulled over, run from the police, are known to be armed, and there is a warrant out for your arrest, I think you should comply, then take it up in court. Every LEO would be shouting at this guy to get on the ground, that is how they are trained. As a cop, you are not there to negotiate anything, you are there to effect an arrest. You dont wait once those hands go down. Much to dangerous. (Obviously)2 points

If it's legal, and the shooter is proficient with it, I don't see why not. The reason why I think these discussion come up often is because of the difference in skill level we have as hunters in our abilities to shoot and analyze terminal ballistics. There are those that want to do more, with less, then there's also those that want to do less, with more. I think the discussions get heated when one hunter tries to tell another what they can, or can't use based on their own opinion. You'll generally hear people trash talk the smaller calibers, but not the other way around. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

It's just fun for those of us who are interested in rifles and ballistics to enter into discussions like this. I always get involved, even though I know that there dozens of rifle/chambering combos out there that are equally effective on deer and similar sized game.1 point

You are obviously speaking "in code" which, conveniently only racially paranoid nut jobs, and the real racists, can understand. That makes you a racist, to the leftist loons. Its like how only they can write the definitions of anything.1 point

I never said any of that B.S. Your making things up. This is just another one of your irrational Leftist rants, where you denigrate some one who doesn't think like you. And if I have unkind words to say about anyone, I do it based on their actions, not what they look like. You look at a persons race, religion sexual preference etc.. first and their actions last. But thats what hard core Leftists/Socialists do. And yes you are extremely hateful towards anyone who doesn't think like you.1 point

Mandatory reporting on all tags used or I unused . No . I pay extra for dmp's on top of my license fee . That already overboard. I call my tags in when I fill them. If I don't use them I throw out at the end of the season . Full use of crossbow waiting for that before I buy a good one. Only time on that .1 point

There is lots of research out there that points to food cholesterol not having an impact on your blood cholesterol. Saturated fats and trans fats can, but food cholesterol, not so much. If you look at the gritty biology of it all, it's true. Even the government's dietary guidelines is hearing the science and has greatly reduced the warnings on food cholesterol intake. http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/07/health/2015-dietary-guidelines/That is not to say that high blood cholesterol is not a problem, just that the cholesterol you eat is not impacting it too much. Eat your venison, salmon and eggs (medium-chain fats are some of the healthiest foods you can eat, which are found in things like fish, coconut oil, avocado...). Enjoy your beef and pork too, in moderation. If you are eating genuinely pastured animals, know that their fats are "healthier" in general, and they tend to be leaner. I used rendered suet to cook in regularly, though I will only use it from pastured animals that I get from local farmers so that I know what I'm getting. Sugars and carbohydrates have a greater negative impact on your blood chemistry (especially if you are borderline diabetic) than almost any other food. If nothing else, try to cut back on the heavy saturated fats, sugars, and carby foods for a few months and see how your blood tests come back. I'm not a doctor and I don't want to cherry-pick articles for you to read, but there is a lot of science behind this and doctors and the governing bodies are slowly catching up. Also remember that everyone's body is different and processes things differently. There is no 'one size fits all' diet or lifestyle out there.1 point

If you go to Bowsite.com / NY , Pat has a post where he is using a not expensive .223 bolt action with a good/ pricey night vision scope . He and his son seem to be making out pretty good with that combo.1 point

I won't bring a knife to a gun fight. If a situation is bad enough to have to pull a knife, there are better options.1 point

I believe the long gun law is an environmental conservation law ,and was written to help with charges related to road hunting . Similar to the fact that you can only have 3 shells in your shotgun hunting water fowl , but more in it behind the bedroom door .1 point

I'd assume that a loaded handgun is less prone to accidentally discharge and cause damage or death. I would imagine the purpose of allowing a pistol permit holder to carry loaded in a vehicle is for protection. I can hardly see a situation where someone with a carry permit would opt to go for their long gun vs their handgun in an emergency situation for protection. Well I fired up the forge on Saturday. I made some parts that I needed to fabricate some tools for upcoming projects. I took a run at my first set of tongs and not totally disappointed in how they came out. I only had 1/2" square stock so it didn't leave much meat in the rivet area but they are handling the 1/2 stock in the forge very well and with the longer bottom lip it makes picking small parts out of the fire very easy. I welded all the parts up on Sunday and they are ready for my next fire. Fuller hardie tool bending fork hardie tool spring swage for drawing out and shaping round 1/2" and 3/8" Twisting wrench for making those classic twisted square bars. One more set of tongs for now and I will be off and running.1 point
