This ol' girl has been sitting on 7 eggs on the creek bank for almost 3 weeks now. Those babies will be crackin' any day now! I hung a cam over the nest a while back to find that "dad" returns at night to help protect his girl into the weeeee hours of the morning. Mom rotates the eggs every 40 minutes or so now 24/7. She sits a little tighter lately and is beginning to hiss and display to let me know when I get too close, so they gotta be getting ready to pop soon. She still has plenty of patience and gives me a chance to experiment with settings. Couple other shots to end it...12 points

I like to use one of each (hen/jake) about 6-8ft apart and within 20yds of my set up. Jake usually get's and holds most of the attention from an approaching tom. Position him where you want your gobbler to be directly in front of him. Make sure you leave a tom some room to strut in front of the fakes. I just use the hen for added realism effect but she rarely gets any attention. She's always facing me so any gobbler that approaches her from the rear will be closing the distance to me.5 points

Looks like an excellent property, Biz. Filled with everything a NY hunter could want! Lots of memories will be made there with you and your Dad.4 points

Quick info for those of us with less than youthful eyes. My sight is horrible. I recently acquired a lever gun with open sights and in playing around with it I discovered I could see the front and rear sight pretty clearly with my "Computer Glasses". My computer glasses are glasses that have progressive lenses but, unlike regular progressive lens glasses, have most of the intermediate vision area, the 12"-2' range, taking up a larger portion of the center of the lenses. Regular progressives have distance vision at the top, intermediate in the middle and close at the bottom (that's why it is sometime hard to get used to stairs, we're looking down through the close vision part of the lens). Typically, the intermediate portion of the lens is about 1/3 of the lens, same as distance and close. In computer glasses, the intermediate vision part of the lens occupies a much larger portion of the lens, at least half the lens. Just by chance, I found I can see the open sights, still see distance and close up as well with these glasses. Actually, the distance and intermediate seem about the same and I can see the target, the front sight and pretty well the rear sight. Just FYI P.S., I do not get the same results with my progressive contacts, can't see the rear sight at all.3 points

Call for desperate measures!! Bored out of my gourd due to this weather do I decided to go to my buddies in Arcade late this morning and do some fishing and visiting. I thought I'd stream fish but figured just for giggles I'd hit the big pond, it has all kinds of pan fish in it. Ice was on the edges in some spots but I had enough open water to toss some jigs tipped with red worms. A few fish were caught before I numbed up from the cold.2 points

I'm coming up on a year on mine , no issues with the battery or the heat on the right side. If you wear shorts in the middle of summer your going to feel the heat no matter what. I added the Polaris 2500HD winch , that was so simple my daughter could have done it. It was more money but to me the ease and perfect fit was worth the added cost. Added a kolpin scout storage box , other then having to add a few zip ties to mount it that fit perfect too. All in all , I still think you can't beat this ATV for the money .2 points

We used to have BB gun wars . No eye protection . We took body shots . Also had wars with apple throwers , walnuts , etc .. Made sure we were wearing old clothes so we didn't end up with walnut stain on any good clothes . The lucky ones were the kids that had a rubber glove so they didn't get walnut stain on their hand as it didn't wash off . We hiked in the gullies , slid down the slate banks , caught crayfish and drank water from the creeks . Wouldn't drink that water on a bet now days . A few farmers had old wooden wheeled wagons . We would ride them down hills using a rope to steer with . It's a wonder we survived that . Made tree houses and forts out of any lumber we could scrounge up . Shot pigeons in barns . Played kick the can . Played softball all summer . Roller skated at Long Point Park . Most everything we did was outside .2 points

"We are the first line of defense!" I feel bad for that community. 10 or 12 over weight middle aged+ guys playing army. Sure, I would feel safe. Sorry, but those dudes don't look they could protect anything but the local food stores. I hate to bring to attention that groups like this have been organized, have camps, and compounds, and they were here way before 9/11. They just don't feel the need to be on public display. The real people training off the grid for this aren't going to tell who they are. They don't want publicity and don't care about social media. Anyone who honestly thinks the Islamic State threat isn't big here, I have to laugh. I said before, they are recruiting people of all creeds to join them. They are feeding on the weak. I think the big reason the USA isn't getting the impact from ISIS ( they aren't fighting for anything but blood ) is we still have a right to bear arms and kill some looser who tries to harm us or our family. Most of us will! I sure as hell will! If a state of Marshal Law was declared, it's not going to be a "civil war" like most think of the concept, it will be a bloody fight for survival and kill before I get killed mentality.1 point

rob when picking up additional choke tubes I highly recommend going for aftermarket tubes versus OEM flush tubes. PureGold makes great tubes special purpose tubes. if you want just generic choke tubes for shooting anything Carlson makes black sporting clays tubes that are extended to pattern better with a lot of different constrictions. i have some and they work well. here's a link.... http://www.choketube.com/choke-tube-product-details.php?Benelli-Mobil-Choke-Tubes&mf=31 point

I worked my butt off before-hand (7 years) to save money for undergrad, and worked every day to pay for grad school. Then I worked some more for post-grad, shuttling between Chicago and Buffalo for TA positions and delivering pizzas or doing carpentry on the side. This was 30+ years ago and things have certainly changed, but I knew going in that it wasn't going to be 'easy'. Wishes based on unicorns and rainbows aren't going to save the country, or the planet.1 point

If im not mistaken. If you stop paying your student loans they will garnish wages. Who do you know who stopped paying their loans and got away with it? My kids will be in college when im still paying mine back. .1 point

If I recall correctly the same lawyer took up a case for the Montana resident population of Wooly Mammoths during that global warming period as well. Had a favorable judgement as well but the tax base wasn't there to pay the restitution.1 point

I don't doubt that, after just so long you can tell who the good eggs are on a forum. Sometimes I'm talking with my wife and I'll be telling her about some folks on the web. I'll say "oh, so and so is a good guy" and she'll say "how in the hell do YOU know they're a good guy?" Just a gut feeling but so far it's been spot on................ On the OTHER hand, I'm sure some of the guys I think are douche nozzles are probably good guys when they get out from behind the keyboard. I could be wrong on that one though..........1 point
