  2. I've already heard several people calling the day off due to rain. I just agree with them and keep my mouth shut...the less hunters in the woods tomorrow the more unpressured birds to play with!!!

  3. I want to congratulate the youths and their mentors who participated in the youth hunt and were successful, and in this contest. I am very happy to see the increased participation this year and hopefully this contest will continue to grow. Paula, Matt and I will be re-reading everyone's stories and viewing the photos and we will make a decision on the winners in the next few days. There will be three winners picked this year and I will announce the winners on May 4, when I get back from hunting. Good luck to everyone who will be hunting this season and be safe!!!

  5. I have been watching this campaign and noted how frequently people have declared Trump an absolute joke, and loser, and impossible to elect. And then I see that he continues his march of success past all the nay-sayers not just by little margins, but by commanding victories. And it's not in just little regional struggles, but universally across the nation. So, I wouldn't be too quick to write this guy off. He is tapping into a frustration that is nationwide and has been festering for decades. Like myself, people are starting to look at their politics and looking for a departure from business-as-usual government that promises cradle to grave benevolence. That was tried in Russia and as predicted, it imploded. And that is the engine that runs the Trump phenomenon. I don't think it can be stopped, and I don't think it should be stopped. I see where the libs are taking us, and I think there really is a silent majority that sees it also. I think we are all finally tired of being silent.

  7. Well, I went and got the S&W M&P 15 .22 today from a different shop. Bought it used in new condition. Came with a Leapers Dot scope and rubber slide on grips for the forearm. I wanted the detachable 10 shot magazine so I will have to get used the lame grip. They even threw in 5 boxes in Win 40gr bullets. I will probably take the scope off and put basic AR Iron sights on it. Will be a few weeks before I get to shoot it, but so far very happy with my new addition.

  19. I'm back from Ontario.. Opening day I could have shot a jake ( or 3 or 4) but I was holding out for a longbeard. I saw 2 bearded hens also, one with about a 9 inch beard and another with perhaps a 6 inch beard. After that, I was hard pressed to even hear a gobble..Just not my year, I guess. My Canadian buddy had better luck. Opening day he had a longbeard in range but was screwed up by a coyote at the last minute. Then yesterday morning, he killed a hog..22.5 pounds, 10 inch beard..The spurs were only 7/8 ", but the bases were huge..I think it was a solid 3 year old bird. It came racing in and attacked his full fan gobbler decoy.

  21. You can hold it, just not grasp it as firm as with an actual grip. I have been shouldering it and while not ideal, it's functional and I can get a line of sight pretty well. I know it will never be a 'tack driver' in it's current state, and I'm OK with that. I have wanted an M16 style rifle for over 30 years. I never bought one as I found other uses for the money, and would have never hunted with it. When my ATV sale went the right way I decided I was buying an AR platform for two reasons; 1) Because I have wanted one since I was 12. 2) As a middle finger to Cuomo and all the anti-gun fools, and to prove you can make us modify our guns, but at this time you can't take them away or keep us from buying them! Some of us still believe in the right to own and bear arms. Even if we have a goofy looking rifle If I have to get used to that silly handle, so be it. LOL It will be like anything else, the more time I spend shooting it the more I will learn how make it do what I want it to do.

  23. Just back from my first big scout. Lots of birds on our hill, a bunch of Jakes and at least one nice long-beard observed this evening. Can't wait for the am! Woods hunting is tough though.

  24. Will do. I know it won't win any accuracy contest with that stupid handle, but should still be fun to shoot at the range. I wasn't looking for Sub-MOA, just an AR platform that I could shoot 100 rounds at targets and only be out $10.

  36. The field I've been watching over will be surrounded by neighbors. I could never get permission to hunt there anyhow. Now that I know where they're roosting, and with a little luck, them gobblers will never make it to the field. One more move of the blind tomorrow, and I have a olive drab tarp to stash up there in case starts coming down too hard I can drape it over the top to stay dry.

  40. The ol' toms finally caved in and got tired of the young guys getting all the girls. The woods were ALIVE with gobbles from every direction this morning. When the sun finally broke over the horizon, I managed to pull this group in for some quick snaps. Had a beautiful sunrise this morning, but that quickly gave way to early morning cloud covered skies which really hurt the quality of this set of shots. C'mon Sunday!!!

  41. Rain or shine I will be out there. We only get a month so I put forth my best effort. If it gets too miserable, I'll change locations and hunt my ground blind, located in a hedgerow, in the center of all the fields

  47. Again ,,,Im just telling you the facts… You can do what you want. But selling, buying or possessing a rifle, as you described, is 100% illegal in NYS, unless the rifle has been made NYS compliant. Sounds like neither of the shops you have been dealing with knows WTH they are talking about. In NY, under LIL Andy…any semi automatic rifle (center fire or rim fire) that has a detachable magazine can not have a pistol grip, or a flash suppressor, or a bayonet lug or a collapsable stock or any other "evil feature". Its not hard to look up on line. Good luck.
