  1. Grampy was so generous in sending my son, who is addicted to bass fishing, a HUGE assortment of his best bass lures/rigs. It was a complete surprise for my son and he was almost speechless. What a great gift from a great guy/fisherman. I hear my son now commenting on all the great tackle. Thanks so much Dave. I have never seen my son more excited. I know you will be blessed in kind. You were way too generous! He is planning to go out and put that tackle to use tonight It's so great to see a man like Grampy with such a big heart share his passion with my son. And tips from a pro like you is over the top. You made a big impression on Joel (and me)!

  3. Thanks everyone, but I really don't deserve any fuss. Joel called me last night! What an awesome young man, (must take after his dad). You see, in the past I have been on the receiving end, of acts of kindness and generosity from members on this forum,(you guy's know who you are). I'm just paying forward in a small way, to a wonderful young man, who I'm sure will carry on with that. And who doesn't like to see kids hunting and fishing? We need to encourage them all we can. They are the future of this outdoors life that we love so much. Look at the picture from above. Our future is in good hands.

  4. Much to often there is bickering amongst us, about what we hunt with and how we may go about hunting, or what may be different from how we hunt. But you know what? We are still a brotherhood, that has more in common with each other, than most of the non hunting population. And with the display of generosity and true sportsmanship seen here, the future of hunting is bright!

  7. I am outa likes. I told Jeremy I can't express enough how to thank him. The best I can do is pay it forward and help another hunter out next year by passing on the bow. I also very much appreciate people helping out with giving me heads up on good places to hunt in the new home area. I can't express my gratitude enough.

  8. I've decided that when cooked right I prefer venison steak to a beef steak. It actually surprised me. I did a side by side comparison the other night.I seasoned them the same, I cooked them the same, and I ate them side by side. Saved some till the next day because I like to eat day old cold steak and that was the true test. The beef taste bland and I preferred the venison.

  14. I just got an email I got another preference point for The Georgia Quota Hunt for gator. I now have two preferences so when I put in next year I should have a good chance of getting a tag. There are 5-6 of us so we should get a few tags minimum between us. Can't wait. Maybe I will get real Lucky and hit Vermont Moose too I am up to 5 preference points there! Getting the hunting season itch now that we passed into August!

  15. You guys are cruel. Everyone needs a break, even the deer. Its like a timeout in tag. Just tell the deer that they need to return to their original spot when you get back in the stand. No harm, no foul.

  17. Will.score.maybe 130 out of velvet, beams are long and has good width. Mass seems to drop off ( 1/2 in or a bit more of the mass your looking at is velvet) brows and points are short. That being said it's still a big buck I wouldn't put it in monster class myself. Hope you get a crack at him this year. The one on the right I would consider a monster. Buck on left friend shot was 127net.

  20. Gotta say, Partridge Run is now a great place to hunt! I have private land but still make a run over there at least once a season. 20 years ago, it was very crowded but now if you get off the beaten path a bit. You may not even see another hunter!

  22. Sounds good. Your right, Partridge run is close by and has some decent hunting. That's where I hunted almost all last season. I ate tag soup but only because I won't shoot little bucks. I passed at least 15 bucks that I know plenty of guys would of shot...and probably did get shot in gun season [emoji849]. The nice part about up there is that there's very very little to absolutely no pressure during bow season. And even after the first couple days of gun season there isn't many people in there. There's also a lot of land there to cover and spread out on. I've spent months walking around that place and still haven't covered every nook and cranny. But I do know of a good spot that I came across one hell of a buck. I will see if I can pull up a map and mark it for ya. If I didn't buy my house and have the land out back to hunt this year I would be headed right for this spot I'm talking about lol. Someone might as well get after him if I'm not gonna! 30. I'll do 2 or 3 all day sits every year in an enclosed blind. Coffee, sandwiches and snacks help. I've taken a sleeping bag up there at 10:00 at night and slept there so as not to get busted on the way in for a morning watch. My wife laughs and calls me crazy.

  34. I have never done an all day sit in one spot. I just can't do it. I think I sat 6 or so hours a few times on a really good day in peak movement time. I hunt because it is fun why would I want to torture myself!! The majority of my hunts are before and after work and 1 to 3 hours. On weekends and days off 3-5 hours. I hunt a lot of spots close to home or at home. If I am hunting a good drive from home I hunt all day but break it up with a morning sit, some still hunting mid day and a sit in the afternoon till dark.

  35. As a general rule, I only do one all-day stand per season ..... that is opening day of gun season. After that it is mostly still-hunting. Bow season is 3 to 4 hours in the morning, and the same late afternoon. My still hunting looks a lot like moving stand hunting. I take a few steps from one bit of cover to the next really slowly, all the time scanning every little feature out ahead and off to the side, and then I sit for 15 minutes to a half hour. Then I do the same thing to cover another 100 yards. I guess you might call it all day moving-stand hunting. But on the gun season opener, I stay planted in a well constructed blind. Theree is enough hunter activity on that day to keep deer moving to me, when the hunter patterns are in place. After that day, it is time to actually do some hunting to find the deer.

  36. Was that venison from the big buck you got? If so, wait until you try a nice plump doe. Even better! I heard talk of people eating venison from deer taken down by Naples and and not liking the taste supposedly from the deer eating a lot of grapes.

  38. This is the farthest east that PR reaches too. You'll wanna be up into the woods as Far East as the state land goes. There's a rock wall that runs along the south border which is also the edge of those fields. The east border is a little trickier to find but I highly doubt you'll run into anyone who's going to bother you if your a couple feet over. If you stay right around the corner of the second field out from the road you'll be fine. For access I parked on smalley road Walk across the street and there's a small creek there. It's thick as hell there and it's a good thing because most everyone doesn't even bother going over to that side of the road as access is a pain in the ass. But I found that by just walking into the neighbors field for like 20 steps there's a nice deer trail that leads you around the thick crap and into the creek where you can continue to follow their trails up and out of the stream. This path can't be seen from the road so it helps keep other guys out. Most will park at the parking area just up the street and hunt the west side of Gifford valley rd. Once your across the creek just find the rock wall just up your first little hill after it flattens out and follow it up. The fields to the south of those woods are LOADED with deer on a regular basis. And the best part....wait for it.....it's a sanctuary! By that I mean the private owners Do NOT hunt! They own 400 acres there on both sides of Gifford valley road. I know their cousin and asked for permission but was turned down due to wife being a vegetarian and doesn't like hunting[emoji58]. But hunting the edge of their fields on state land is fair game and your sure to see deer coming from the north/northeast, down the hill towards the fields. Hot damn that was a long one! Sorry for the mega details....I get carried away sometimes. Anyways, hope this helps at least speed up getting ya into the woods after a buck with that new bow headed your way! 43. I have talked about it before I have a stand that is 3 foot from my neighbors stand that I sit in every opening day of southern zone. It's not in a spot that I would ever hunt but it keeps him honest. I actually kind of enjoy it now he's an old curmudgeon but brings me snacks and I always have something for him. He will shoot the first buck he sees and I'll help him drag it to his truck. This all started when I watched him shoot one out of my field opening morning so I was pissed and hung my stand in the next tree over and he was pissed but he hasn't shot anything on me since and now it's something we look forward to. 45. I left my cameras out all year. I moved 2 of them to the new food plots I just planted so I could keep an eye on what if any frequent the plots. Here is a couple of pics from the cards that were in the cameras before I moved them. The buck in the front is the same in both pics, but the rear deer is 2 different bucks. 1 has a drop tine on his right side!

  48. I never used to like pickles. But I have an open mind and try it under good recommendation(usually my wife). I now appreciate a good pickle now and then. There's a trap and skeet range that I visit now and again and nearby there's a deli that we would stop by. In said deli, is some imported pickles from Germany. I can't remember the name, but we had some and it was good, so bought some for the wife. Speaking of which, we are probably due to visit the range soon.
