  6. Long tale from yesterday: Quick am sit yesterday as I got a late offer for yanKees tix(shut up Biz!). 8:15 shot a doe that had 3 fawns in tow. No idea how but shot her back and my arrow passed through but did not fall out. I have a flashing luminock on the arrow which is the only reason I got her. After running off for 30 yards and stopping behind brush I can see the arrow is back. She loops behind me, mouth open and drooling and was at 30 or so in thick crap. Not a shot I would take if it wasn't hit already. Threw another arrow that I thought didn't connect. They all trot off. Wait until about 8:45 to climb down and back out and as I face the tree I see the strobe light about 75 yards away. She and her fawns bed down right there. I climb down, leave climber in tree and take the much longer walk back to car hoping she stays right there until I can come back after giving her 8-10 hours. Go to yankee game, had to leave early to get to my sons football game and then plan to head back around 10. The guy who runs the program said he wanted to look before full dark. Gave him some directions to the area and he saw the flashing Nock from 100 yards away. She never got up from her first death bed. My second arrow actually broke her front leg which is I'm sure why she couldn't leave that first bed. 2 lessons for me: - if not for me seeing that flashing nock before I climbed down, I would have bumped (and lost) that deer. - always throw a second arrow if any opportunity presents And three- I need to go figure out wtf is wrong with my shot. Should have been a chip shot except it all happened too fast for me to "get right" Got her home and skinned and cleaned up(not pretty) by 1:15 and Broke her down and in the deer fridge now (after football practice and Mama Crappy's birthday blackstone brunch (some poor pancake flips to boot!) . No deer pic worthy of the forum as I just was scrambling Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. In for my first sit of 22. Been so busy at work, home and farm. So to just get out in the peace and quiet is just what I needed! Top picture is front view. Bottom picture is left view from this blind. The most buck pictures so far this year have been from here. Almost hoping one doesn't interpret me........

  14. That’s plenty most times if one waits for the better shot opportunities. If I “Thought” I heard a crash… No way am I leaving without taking up the trail for a few yards at the least. Any kind of vermin in the area and it could be toast by now.

  17. Well sitting at 9200ft of elevation and i have a better signal than i have back in my house lol. So id thought id update yall. It is hot out here, not what we want obviously. First place we went was crazy driving up to it, definitely needs a serious truck to get up these single track dirt mountain roads. Thats spot didnt pan out, we did see elk and deer sign but the creeks were dried up. Which means the closest guaranteed water was a 3hr drive down the mountain to a stream we pasted. So that night we packed up and drove back into Salmon and slept in the truck in town. Formultated a plan for another spot I E scouted, was definitely going to be more crowded but appeared to have more water sources. So we got here yesterday setup camp and just glassed near by, talk to a few guys and we all have the same idea unfortunately. The plan this a.m. was get up and moving while still dark and get to the backside of these mountains were it appears there are some lakes. My buddy im with is...well he came out and told he never really trained to be in better shape for the hell we are getting into...so it has been slower moving than id like. Welp during the night we could here elk talkin on this mountain face, this a.m. as were ready to roll they start up again. No bugles but definitely elk. So we slip down from camp and setup in a spot where we can see this mt side. As daylight breaks i spot 2 elk up on its ridge. Switch from binos to my spotter, 2 cows estrus calling. Few hours later we circled to the side of a different mt were we can see the spot the cows were in and the likely pine thickets they are beded in. Now we wait for sun down when they will get on their feet again to go feed, hoping a bull is in tow. Cross your fingers for us!

  22. Look forward to visiting your deeded home. I can understand that. I'm from a small town in Canada so the idea that I got to live in NYC for 22 years is still pretty cool to me. The last 11 have been in a PH apt with views of the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, as well as Central Park. I was very lucky. But unless you have stupid money, the city is really for young people. I was in Brooklyn last week and walked into some dive bar filled with 20-30 year olds having the time of their lives. Anyway, I traded this: for this: Works for me.

  23. Let me say that this will never ever happen. That being said....does Maine need a major city to survive? How bout the Dakota's...Etc. The money lost is also the money spent by city itself and the terrible liberal policies. Put a Republican in for upstate alone and drop the taxes, handouts and BS we are all paying for and we would get along just fine. It would open up business to come back and we could be fracking in 60 days. NYC does us no favors. Especially financial. We will sell them power just like California buys from their local states. I am willing to trade to Jersey if they like for a can of spam. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

  31. So mad right now, just had two clowns walk under my stand with crossbows. It’s public land and can’t access unless you live here. It was 100% the same guy that stole my cell cam last year. I pointed out it’s not crossbow season yet and he told me he didn’t care. I then said I want my fffing camera back and that I have pictures of him stealing it. That’s when they turned around and left. I know what house they park at and I called my sister in law. She watched them walk out of the woods and into a car. She snapped some pics of the plate. My hunting partner lives down the street and is a LEO in the town. These two clowns will not be very happy when he gets back to work on Monday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. We got out this morning on a private pond and Gunner got to make his first actual water retrieve on a Canada goose. Gunner was well behaved in the blind and we bagged another goose which he made another water retrieve on. Watching him make the retrieves was the best part of the hunt. valoroutdoors.com

  37. Lots of areas are closed to hunting for training right now on Drum. With our property just across the road I’m Ok with that and hope it lasts thru November. Copters out training 4 and 6 to a group with Jets cranking thru every day. They are keeping sharp for some reason that’s for sure.

  40. If you can't spray glysophate frost seed clover. In September top seed with grains. If soil is crappy buckwheat is a great soil builder. Wti sells a great chicory clover blend that you could also seed early.

  45. I thought I would put together a couple of photos showing Gunner's progress this year. The first photo is of Gunner at 8 weeks old retrieving a snow goose wing at home. The second photo is of Gunner yesterday at 8 months old retrieving his second Canada goose. That goose was a large heavy bird but Gunner brought him in. From 8 weeks to 8 months has been commendable. valoroutdoors.com
