  1. Here are some picts from the weekend. That is the trail mower that I fixed up. Ran great and I did all the trails and the front field with it. There is a picture of the oats I planted, the bear pole (he is really hammering it), my burning barrel with some interesting prints on it, view of my top field and a sunset. A great weekend for sure!

  3. Definitely impressed with the quality of the pictures taken. The field in front of the camera was suppose to be corn but the farmer got the corn in too late and it really didn't make it. The field will be planted with whitetail institutes winter greens next week.

  5. No, hunting any crop planted by man is not baiting. Dumping a pile of corn or feed on the ground for a few weeks where the sole purpose is to hunt over it and harvest an animal is baiting. I'm sure you're just trying to justify it in your head because that is what you do. Keep telling yourself it's not baiting. Food plots, naturally occurring foods, standing agricultural crops, or food that is in place as part of normal farming practices are not considered baiting or feeding. "Baiting" is defined as putting out food materials for wildlife to attract, lure, or entice them as an aid in hunting.

  6. Loved GI Joe!! I had the Jeep, the trailer, the spot light, the cannon, the helicopter, the (I think it was some kind of Moon vehicle). I had all of them. If I had a crystal ball I would have saved them all and retired early. Instead (like all of my friends) I shot them with B-B guns, blew them up with firecrackers, set them on fire and did a bunch more things that "normal" kids did to them, at the time………..It was fun at the time.

  8. One of the main reasons baiting is illegal is the fact that has been pointed out by Chiefbkt. Baiting causes a pile of food and is known to cause disease to spread. Fact This is one reason I declined a new lease on property I know hunters bait. I want no association with this. Crops do not drop all the food in one spot. Gjs4 You seem to have had a bad experience with some master baiters. Just because you see a few bad apples does not mean every barrel is bad. We have some pretty awesome hunters here and many of those same people respect and love the wonderful world of the whitetail and will do everything legal to ensure their survival, this includes planting winter crops and food plots. Know it all, well if that was the case I would not be here as I am sure many others love to gain knowledge and check out others success in the field along with the pathetically awesome pictures we share. Please don't be so close minded and realize not everyone fits the profile you paint. Many of us are conservationist and love the land and animals, this is why we maintain the land for the benefit of our animals and the viewing pleasure they give us. The benefits those individuals provide for the animals far outweigh the bounty we take. Yes we argue over many things(We are a stubborn bunch!) but one thing should unite us and that is the love of our land the bounty it provides and the enjoyment it give us. I just wish that where true...

  10. Lol here we go...one major "do's and don't's" I completely go against...I mow and rake all during season to all 32 stand/blind sites until the trees are bare...never had a problem...mowing is the best they pay no mind to the engine /mower sounds ...I have told this before but here it is again.. While DRing a main trail through the middle of the woods to get rid of leaf litter I had a dandy 12 pt buck(bow season) step out in front of me and casually walk the trail while I continued following him mowing until he stepped off and walked the woods....While on the JD mowing I had a buck and doe run in front of me and stop 30 yards out as he "tended" her.. There is quiet and then there is sneaking...a deer will pick up on my trying to sneak around and leave town...being quiet they tend to be curious as to (in the dark) what the slight sound is they hear...during the day where I'm going so they will stop to watch.

  11. Simply pointing out your lie. Sorry you got caught. But those deer hanging in that picture show quite clearly that your crap about passing up deer of the quality that Stubby posted is simply BS. Obviously you don't and you even provided picture proof of it. It's unfortunate that you feel the need to stretch the truth just so you can feel better about yourself, but you should feel good that at least one member here reads and remembers the crap you post here.....lol. Anyway, enough said. It serves no purpose to continue conversing with you. Your credibility is shot.

  12. Awesome trip, my friend..Nothing wrong with reds and silvers.. I love Alaska...I've fished halibut and salmon out of Homer and Juneau and salmon, leopard rainbows, grayling and dolly varden in the Mulchatna River and several tributaries. Those barndoor halibut are awesome..I have had them nearly take the rod away from me when my drag was set a little too tight. Imagine catching a 100+ pound bluegill.. After you land one of them, you sit down, wipe the sweat off your brow, and hope that ANOTHER one doesn't bite for awhile...

Theres no limitations on ammo we shoot for guns.Seems like another pointless politician really knows what there talking about.

  15. LOL. That is funny .. I can picture it now..."What do you mean, corn will not sprout in Nov?" Maybe a person could get a destroy permit even, because the deer are digging up and destroying your seed.

  18. Everyone has their confident ways to accomplish the tasks in the woods. For me sneaking through the woods has resulted in spooking more game than getting in undetected, unless I could see the game and choose when to make the small tiny moves to go forward. I cant tell you how many times I have walked up on deer and turkeys in pre season, while I was scouting, just strolling along. My guess has always been that predators sneak, like a bobcat sleeking though the woods after a partridge, while an undisturbed un spooked deer just walks along the trail in a steady pace. I have also practiced a "toe to heel" walk through the woods to sound like a deer moving in the leaves. It works for me, but if you don't have confidence in a technique regardless of what it is, you should find your own way that works for you.

  20. see if you can find a whittail visions video entitled tricking whitetail bucks. covers all this and more. its from about 1990 when videos actually instructed verses entertained. as for being to cautious, you cant get them if you dont try..its like waiting for the perfect shot..everone tells you they do, but you do a lot better if you take the best shot when given, than wait for the perfect shot.

  25. My advise is not to go cheap when it comes to traps. I use 1.75 and #2 for coon, fisher, fox and coyotes. I use Bridgers, Bmi's and MB'S. For rats i do use some dukes and older victors band blake and lambs. I mainly use Night Owl lures. Jim Geffert is a real nice guy and willing to help with any questions. Wax can be picked up cheap and sumac can be used for dye.

  27. If you can sound like something other than a human moving through the woods while getting to your stand, the deer will be alerted but probably not alarmed. They know when you're trying to be sneaky. I've had good luck taking two short steps with each foot: sort of crunch-crunch, pause, crunch-crunch, etc. It takes discipline and patience, but it's effective. Make sure your clothing and gear are quiet. No nylon jackets or pants in the briers! I've 'walked' to within bow range of deer in the middle of the day through crispy leaves using this tactic. Basically sounds like a squirrel rummaging through the leaves, I guess. As long as they don't see or smell you, the natural noises don't bother them much.

  28. I usually do it a week or so before the season but I have done it the day before the opener (gun and bow) And it didn't seem to bother any thing. Like anything else, don't be grabbing branches and things with your bare hands and wear rubber boots. You will be fine

  29. do it.. do its quickly.. a deer lets a farmer do his/her buisness but if the said farmer trys to sneak up on deer it will bolt... being sneaky while raking/mowing is unwise...do your job and get out...deer themselves will start using that trail. you can even filter more deer past your stand if you cut a trail into that clear cut from your stand.. it will be used by all game.

  31. So, my wife has friends from college who live on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Damn the luck, if it our trip just didn't coincide with the salmon run on the Kenai River. I fished mostly with my wife's friend's sister, and caught a mess of red and silver salmon. I went out for 2 days on a charter from Homer and caught this. First pic is a 170# halibut, plus a few others, we also caught ling cod, and rock bass. Second day, we boated 13 halibut (went for limit, not size) and 3 king salmon Freezer is full and I can't wait tll we go again.

Its been a great year for broccoli and cabbage. For desert we will have hand picked red raspberries from my neighbor and vanilla ice cream! A good evening to all.

  36. We've dealt with these kinds of guys before, and it turns out that like a typical troll, he feeds on the attention and somehow thinks that making enemies here is some kind of thing to be admired. I'm beginning to find his bragging style of conversation to be a bit tiresome and boring. He does seem to have this delusional super-hero persona. Who really wants to converse that that?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it... no reason to try something new if what you're using is working for you... example: I still shoot the cheap Remington slugs in my 870... have never tried anything else because I've never needed anything else... never understood why fellas want to keep changing things when what they have is getting the job done... the latest and greatest isn't always the greatest.

  41. The corn, soybeans, clover, alfalfa, potatoes and many other crops that have been feed for deer for the last few centuries are not a natural crop, we planted every bit of it.. Here in VT, the cutting of forest for lumber and fire wood has radically declined in the last 50 years. Resulting in a drastic decrease in natural deer food of forest regrowth. So many very large farms that planted thousands of acres of crops have disappeared in Vermont too. So as hunters and conservationists we plant feed for them, we clear property to have different age forest growth for food and bedding, all because we care about the future of our deer herd. Yes we shoot deer that feed in the food plots, but due to legal limits on harvest in every state, there are many more deer that directly benefit from our efforts than what ends up on the table. If there were never any crops planted or forest management for human benefit ever in history, the deer and other wild game would be endangered species. I know that I am not the only conservationist hunter that plants food plots just for winter feed and never hunts that area. I plant brassica mixes here in VT that the deer really only utilize after the deer seasons have ended as freezing temps are what makes this plant appealing to deer. Bottom line, poachers, that only care about killing for their own personal gain, bait deer with the products that are being discussed in this post during deer season. The true sportsman are planting food plots to help promote the success of the deer in their area all year and for future deer generations to come. So, really, legalities aside, you see no difference between planting crops for hunting for all year food sources, and dumping a pile of corn for two weeks of season?

  43. Great info, thank you. And I agree, baiting is definitely below poaching. It is not so much the unfair advantage that upsets me, as much as the violators getting categorized as a "hunter" breaking the law on the news, which is insulting to the true sportsman everywhere.

  44. It is an illness, suffered by many, understood by few. The only treatment is to sit in solitude in a tree stand or with another sufferer of this affliction. There is no known cure, though there is speculation that relentless purchase of hunting equipment would alleviate some of the symptoms, the results are inconclusive. The first step is admitting you have a problem, a difficult task for some, impossible task for most of us in the early stages of development, becoming easier as time go's on. My name is Fred, and I am a Deer Hunting Addict......

  46. The problem with some of the region 8 N an J specifically bc I hunt there often is the land. ...private land is most of the region and the state land that is there all though great hunting the deer are not dumb. You can see them in the middle of day in open fields during hunting season on private land that is either pressured very very little or is not hunted. So hunters who get dmps for that area are hard pressed to tag out.
