  1. Best of luck to them all and thanks for all you guys and gals do to promote hunting and the extra time and effort you spend! What a first deer WOW!
  2. Agree with The_Real_TClll if he was 190 dressed it was probably a 3 year old.
  3. 2.5 Possibly 3.5 if bad food is in the area, causing low antler growth. He is not much bigger than the spike, usually a 3.5 year old would look larger but like stated before bad or not enough food, stress and genes all play a roll in the size of a deer and its antlers. If I had to make a choice I might go with 3.5 due to poor antler growth possibly indicating poor genes or food or stress or combination.
  4. 2.5 no doubt! I think the person who was doing this was in a rush and probably did not care if he was exact or was improperly taught.
  5. I figure they are hunting in the ADK or general area, when going into deep woods the population drops significantly. That type of hunt is usually more about the experience than anything else yet getting one in these remote regions is very special, sharing with family even more so. You probably have a better chance where you live and are familiar with patterns but nothing like sharing a remote experience with family even more so if someone gets a good buck! I leave Long Island during prime time with 150 inch plus deer running rampant in multiple locations to hunt the Adirondacks with friends where those types of deer are almost a myth. Personally the deer I take up North will never compete with Long Island deer, simply put they are in a class by themselves! Doing it with friends or family makes it that much sweeter!
  6. All that work paid off for sure, congratulations to you all, amazing deer and what a day! Talk to your local news they might print it, great publicity for the sport! Again congrats!
  7. Solo I might stay in a while, with another hunter I will let him or her finish the hunt. Regardless I would still stay in the location for at least another hour unless it is close to dark.
  8. We put them to bed as they where tired! lol Think they are in hibernation?
  9. Not the best week to have stomach issues! Had 4 days off spend 3 in bed one cleaning the yard. Brother got a decent 8 in Prattsville as it was chasing a doe. Other member here also got a doe over the weekend. Been hearing good movement the last 2 weeks and many big bucks have fell. Keep at it as the bucks will still be checking to see if any doe come back into heat and we still have the second rut to kick in!
  10. Stay on Long Island with a bow! My only restriction, and has to be a good buck! lol.
  11. Bacon wrapped back straps, Mac and cheese. We always do a pasta night with meatballs. Chicken more mac and cheese. Burgers and hotdogs are always easy.
  12. I just stalk more, lol. Probably why I see so many flags waving goodbye! Might go up a tree this week...
  13. Best of luck to them all, hope they all score this year!
  14. Happy Birthday! Hope you are out today enjoying the woods!
  15. Stud, congrats to the hunter!
  16. Great place for teaching about tracking!
  17. The young ones especially bucks seem to roam more into unfamiliar territory resulting in more car crashes. Seems to take them a couple years to figure it out but I have seen monster bucks trying to cross route 27 during rush hour! Go figure, probably chasing a doe scent he could not resist!
  18. One thing for sure is they can be unpredictable but this is the beginning of prime time, don't give up it is just getting good and the next two weeks plus is prim rut action so get into the woods and enjoy the show and whack a giant! Best of luck, hope your action starts NOW!!! This is also a great time to try using scents as a decoy for better action and a possible shot, bucks are scent checking all over and roaming during day light. Add some calling and the action should heat up!

    Warm gear

I have old clothes but still use a good base layer and I am always warm and waterproof jacket keeps wind out along with pants. Layering is the best way to keep warm just make sure they are not to tight. New clothes are expensive but you get what you paid for most times and are usually worth the price if you shop around.
  20. OK over 33 times now, lol great way to start the morning, LMAO!
