Recovery rate with your bow (poll, but names not public)
LET EM GROW replied to Core's topic in Bow Hunting
I had a couple of bad years where i think i was forgetting to bend at the waist from an elevated stand, sending the arrow about 8" high each time. Also trying to make shots where I should have waited. I lost 5 deer in those few years. I was Very Very accurate from shooting in leagues and tournaments but of those 5 deer, 4 were pope and young and never recovered . Any deer not found is just as bad as the other.. But From that day forward i made sure the shot was absolutely perfect nothing marginal about them. At that point id say i was hitting around 75% success rate, but since then has been 100%. It was very hard to let big bucks walk that were in range but wouldnt stop at full draw or others that i just didn't feel totally comfortable with. Im sure with my age increasing it helped with the decision as well.. I just refuse to wound anymore to the best of my ability.. Seeing people take some of these shots they do with archery tackle completely boggles my mind.. -
To late to for Winter Rye throw and mow??
LET EM GROW replied to TheMiz54's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
To me its late to benefit this year, you Can try it. Farmers are still planting grains. Might not get but a couple inches tall. "Spray" Throw and Mow may work, Your also going to have to put water to it though. quite late for this though IMO -
Nice, This september is just like the rest... for me. Buck pics drop off and probably wont pick back up until Mid October

Good to know I do mine the right way right. I always brought the cape in whole lol. Then let them cut the line of what they need and didn't need behind the shoulders. Thought Biz was hunting with WNY on opening Day? Arkport has an airport!!

I read an article saying his death was a hoax, to get the media. Not sure which to believe lol

Only if its of very good size. Not hunting for a Trophy, but would love to see the population increase. Never had an interest to hunt Bear, I have plenty of pics of them through the years and seen them but.. Only if a good one passes me while in the "Deer" stand, i would take a shot. Bear Meat is good if cooked right.. and my wife can cook it right lol

I drive by nearly everyday, if you want me to check anything out for you I can. I've never purchased anything from there besides giving tips for the outdoor range. The few times in there I've had some good experiences with the owner and a bad one as well. I believe they own the Outdoor Store as well.

Apple Tree Trouble
LET EM GROW replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
My apples are doing well. Have 2 or 3 different varietes. and some crab apples. They arent super populated with apples but the bunch that are on each tree look good. I have a very old tree about 20ft off the back porch of my camp that has got to be near 48" diameter, and is completely hollow up to about 6ft high. Only a few inches of cambium layer and trunk support the whole tree. Other than that it looks very healthy. Slowly starting to thin over the years, but i think its just "over the hill" .. Tree is maybe 20ft tall -
My buddy is building one now, out of a solid wood frame, and some insulation and such. But I just saw a few weeks back where you can buy a special part for an A/C unit to make it blow cold enough air for Refrigerating purposes. Cant remember where i saw it now..

70lbs limbs maxed out.. id say give or take a couple pounds. from 70 and I'm there lol Speaking of bow draw weights and let offs... Did anyone see the PSE video where the guy puts the new PSE on a Poundage scale. Once its at full draw he lets go and the bow stays in the "Full Draw" position without anyone or anything holding it?? Pretty wild Holding weight there!!

Man you guys have some good wives!! Mine hunts a little herself and loves venison, in fact we all do! She lets me hunt some without too much hassle. But we have 2 young children and she doesn't like being stuck with them all the time so I don't blame her. Shes says when they are bigger and a little more independent she wont mind near as much.... So We'll see lol Shes said some things before that she didn't stick to down the road lol

Where are those plots?
LET EM GROW replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Just remember the bigger the turnip bulb/tuber... the woodier they are. Meaning less palatable or desirable. Still edible but.. there is nothing wrong with baseball/softball size turnips.. perfect size IMO. They will still grow for a few weeks yet.. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -
Congrats!! Im in the same boat with a 3 month, a 3yr old and 12 yr old in the house.. Our hands are full! lol

Where are those plots?
LET EM GROW replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Oh no another Murder plot! lol I 'm doing this with a ridge i have, planting it with Inner sanctum from GRO.com and attempting to make an apple and pear orchard, a couple of each with different varieties so they produce and drop at different times of the year. The soil is slightly drier up there but the pears planted last year are still green and alive. -
To get my wife her first buck, with a bow, and possibly on film!! She does'nt care for the gun or Xbow stuff! I also have 2 brand new "legal" hunters in the woods now, providing they pass their tests for this weekends course. Its all on them, ill take the back burner and go when I can, and try to fill the freezer if they cant.

Jawbone Aging Education & Quiz
LET EM GROW replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
2.5 yrold -
Ill continue to pay the top price for them, I only shoot but one or 2 deer a year with my bow at most. Even if i ruined ahead per deer, I can swing it. And so far out of 6 broadheads puchased, and after harvesting 4 deer, i still have all 6 heads with good furreles and tips are still perfect.
-
Whenever i get a chance, even if its multiple times a day. The last 2 or 3 years i probably only got to shoot a half a dozen times before season. Which sucks, i love shooting my bow lol. So therefore ill shoot quick at 20ish to make sure i'm still good, then move right out to long range and shoot there as often as possible
-
Nice buck, a lot of my bucks are very big bodied this year too! its like they went from a 3.5 yr old to a 6.5 yr old buck in 1 summer lol
-
I thoroughly inspect my heads before shooting them again or re loading them back into the quiver. i work with all kind sof alloys and steels on a daily basis and cant test for darn near anything. If things ever slowed down i want to get back to my "Rage Hypo Build". But i do know Some china builds are Aluminum made and i will not shoot an Aluminum head into a deer.

Jawbone Aging Education & Quiz
LET EM GROW replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I do need to get better at aging by teeth. IT is something id like to learn. Though typically i know how old most of my deer are through history but, deer are deer and roam when the timing is right, and the occasional new buck shows up. I was gonna guess, a fawn for first jawbone, and a 2.5 for 2nd jawbone. all teeth are in and i thought at 1.5 they lose a molar? -
Isn't the hypos made out of steel and the china brand made of aluminum? At least they used to be in certain models rage knock offs. I compared them with a buddy few years ago. Had a knockoff furrel bend in over at almost a 90* angle. Thats why i always spent the extra for the others.. didn't want to risk it on bone
