  1. Looks like you got him set up nicely! Hope he makes a full recovery. Let us know how he makes out.
  2. Kinda makes you wonder who is paying for the nice rigs, and fancy graphics, TV shows? There seems to be some good money behind finding Squatchies. As much, if not more, than if they actually found one!! Go figure.......... The last thing these guys want, is a Real Live Squatchie! That would end their meal ticket!
  3. I like this proposal. I will continue to hunt with my compound. But on those days when my shoulders just won't allow me to pull the 48lbs on my compound bow, the crossbow will still allow me to be be out there to hunt. At this point, that is the most meaningful thing for me. Just being out there. Also the designation from Muzzleloader to Archery, makes much more sense. As an archery endorsement would be needed to hunt with a crossbow.
  4. Congrats on two exciting and successful hunts Dan! AWESOME!!! That full contact fight with the first bird, would have been priceless to witness!! Sorta like choking a super chicken!!!! And you're experience paid off without a doubt!! Here's to you my friend.................
  5. I feel your pain, as this is never easy. In your heart you know what is best for her. In the past I've grieved more over a lost pet, than I have for certain family members. Keeping you in thoughts and prayers.
  6. Don't remember exact age, but certainly pre-teen. The BB gun came first, followed shortly after by the single shot 22lr. with open sights. I also remember many critters cooked over a open fire, and my mom making "surprise stew" !! Went in to the Army at 17. Learned the finer points of shooting there. Was lucky to meet a couple guys who shot for the US team, and were sniper qualified. Spent a bunch of my free time at the range with them, and learned a bunch!!! Still don't consider myself a great shot, compared to really good shooters, but I do ok.
  7. Congratulations Brian! Jeeps are cool! So much after market stuff you can add on too. Does the top come off this one??
  8. As they get older and competition gets stronger, it becomes a time management issue. My grandson played fall travel baseball, and HS football the last two years. Was WAY too much!!! Always had a practice or game to go to. And academics began to slip a little. And only got out to hunt for very few times a year. This year, no fall travel baseball. Will concentrate on HS football, and hope to get him out more for his first deer this year!!!
  9. His injury (only one) was caused by him growing too big, too fast. He just turned 15 a month ago. Not even remotely thinking $$$ or turning pro at this point............lol
  10. Couple years ago I bought a rifle from Moog. (From Webster) Can't remember the FFL he used to send it to me? But they did a good job. My FFL here charged $30 and remounted the scope for free.
  11. Yes, Gulderland. They have a great program here. It's also where I work. That's nice cause I hear feedback from his coaches. Especially Dan Penna, the head coach of varsity football. A wonderful man, teacher, and coach. It really is all about having fun for him. Always has been. He has loved baseball since T Ball. Would cry when games were rained out.......lol. Never have any of us put any pressure on him. He does that enough himself. He works year round on improving his skills. But we keep him grounded, and don't look too far ahead. We would be thrilled if he gets a partial scholarship to a university he likes, to play ball, and continue to have fun with the game and his team mates. No more than that. Best of all he's a great hunting buddy for his grampy!!!! In that, he'll always be my all-star.
  12. He can do both for now. The last couple years he's been playing above his age group, in both baseball and football. Last year as a freshman, he played varsity football, on an AAA school, and was even voted a captain by his team mates. Travel A1 baseball, he will be playing with 17\18 year olds. No ego at all, a coaches dream, as he listens, works hard, and always gives more than what's asked of him. Hits the weights most every day. Already a couple of university's showing interest. But we are taking things easy for now. One step at a time. Got a couple years before deciding on a University. Just concentrating on HS ball. And him having fun playing.
  13. What a transformation! I've said it before, your artistry and skill is awesome!
  14. Grandson played first HS game of the year on Friday, after coming back from injury. (Winged Scapula, not a throwing injury) Played a solid first base and made a couple sweet defensive plays. Went 0 for 3 at the plate, two strike outs and a deep fly ball to center, that was caught. Four more school games this week, then on to A1 Travel. He threw a couple balls at 87 and 88mph during practice, "on the gun". He may pitch a couple of innings this week. SLOWLY, working back to pitching. If he stays healthy, may take him to a combine down in Florida. Varsity Coach says he will be throwing at least mid 90s by senior year. He's a freshman now, just turned 15, 6'5" 215 lbs. Has five pitches, two seam fb, slider, cutter, baby curve for now, and of course the off speed pitch. Also a gifted football player. Offensive and defensive end.
  15. Congratulations!!! Sounds like another awesome gobbler! Can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics from this trip. Safe travels my friend!
  16. Way to go girls!!! Nice shooting! Thumbs up to Dad too!
  17. Maybe she's just really hungry?
  18. I have always used ear protection while range shooting, but never for hunting. My hearing is going down hill fast. So I was considering the Walkers ear muffs for protection, and to hear better while afield. How is the sound clarity while using the muffs?
  19. Tough old farmer. He's lucky to have not bled out before help arrived. Since going to work at the school district 16 years ago, I rarely carry a knife with me anymore. Even while at the farm. And I usually end up needing one and don't have it. Got to get myself in the habit again.
