always look for the dew claws. oh yeah and my friend was hunting out west i think it was colordo and the thats the way they tell deer tracks from sheep . sheep dont have them but the droppings are a nother story they are identical, he was hunting where there were sheep ranches

tommyc50 replied to left field's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
yeah the one in middletown closed to good ridance i didnt like them anyway but the were so cool when the first opened a small shop in hancock marinos you might find interesting you get off 17 at hancock and make a left go straight its on your right and then go straight and you get back on 17 -
yeah i heard some complaints about leupold but the best thing you can do is go on cabelas and look at the reviews of the scopes they are real and give you an honest opinion on the scopes

wow i tell you they are one tough animal. my neighbor shot a buck years ago and we were skinning it in his garage and i hit a spot by the breast bone and it was tough as nails so i cut around it and skinned the deer then cut it out well it stunk to holy hell and i found a bullet a small one maybe a 9mm ,380 or a .25 in it. that poor thing was walking around with that bullet in him for god knows how long.

im watching the military channel world war II witness to war and what i thought was a woman comes on lynette nusbacher is her /his name i say wait a minute i know the voice that use to be a guy well i goggle and sure as hell this guy a historian /commentator on there went bruce jenner i mean it was so surreal to hear a voice and not seeing the same person. i see her or he on some other shows like tales of the gun as a guy then see them as a woman on other shows.

what would the old hunter in you tell the young hunter you were
tommyc50 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Hunting
wow thats tough i got married @ 20 and raised my kids and when i bought a house was paying a mortgage and all goes with that[ oh yeah in'88 when i bought my house i was paying 13% on my mortgage]. but i would tell you i would have gotten in to bow hunting much earlier then i did im so grateful for the opportunities that i had . one thing you need to hunt is time and of course money. things i didnt have when i was younger. well at 57 i have alittle of both so im glad i still have some health left to enjoy it -
wow i didnt know that back in the day you could buy it over the counter .
-
wow so cool i have a sidelock muzzleloader too i havent shot it in years though the last time i did you could still buy black powder i used 90 grains of ffg [hunting load] a .490 ball and a .10 patch with a # 11 cap and the thing went boom. back in the day [late 70's,80's and early'90] most of the stuff you had to make yourself . i made my own possibles bag, melted my own lead to make balls, even melted gojo hand cleaner and soaked my patches in it made my own too, i know guys who built their own muzzleloaders from kits you could buy. you had to there was very few catalogs around that sold black powder stuff . congrats on the deer thank you for posting

,man that reminds me of when i hunted hancock the guy across the road which i have a few choice names for would let his dog out he would see me park and the dog would follow me and bark until i was about 200 yrds in the woods . one time his kid comes out in the woods and says dont shoot my dog oh please dont shoot my dog .see im from the city hunting up there they like our money but not us so the locals would play silly games like that. but i was an outsider so all you could do was deal with it as best you can

hey man well i'll tell you what happend to me a few times i park my little atv about 400 yrds from my stand i get in the field @ 5:30 am with my head lamp and flash lite[ call me belt and suspenders i carry two of every thing] well i see two eyes looking right at me close to the stand and then what ever the deer was bolted into the woods it was dark and i couldnt tell.well i get in the stand and wow the place came alive at first light @ 6:45 a doe came out then @ 7: 05 another deer . i was amazed. first day of bow season i spooked 6 does right understand but my fault i was there late @ 6 am . the only thing i will tell you is that 100 yds is a little close to park i mean with the lights and engine noise and car door opening and closing thats enough to spook them

the liver looks fine with deer you have to look for liver flukes which is a parasite we do have that in ny i only heard about it in wisconsin. i make the heart and liver cut in pieces and add onions and garlic and braise them in red wine and stock let it go till tender, but a liver is big so i i cut some into slices soak in milk and fry with onions and bacon
