Much to your chagrin this board as long as it is online and stays clean will cruise along nicely just as it is. Let me give you a little lesson about message boards, I have run three and one is coming up on it's 20 year anniversary and going strong. I did some surveys when I first got involved with message boards, the number one reason folks come to them is for "information". You will find that only a very small percentage of members post frequently, most do not join to get into some kind of circle jerk in crowd, in fact most never post and this board is a good example. It has 9000 members now.

My Airedale board is the same, there is a core group of hunting dog folks that know what they are talking about that do the most posting, the vast majority of members log on and never post but read the content profusely, they are looking for useful and accurate information.

I belong to several other boards for things like cars and motorcycles, have belonged to them for years and never made a post.

It is all about content, good content gets clicks and traffic and this board has plenty of it.

Not to be negative but the forum can not get new members and while guest traffic might be good actual member posts are way way down.

I don't see that as a good thing for the future.

Because some of us have real lives and don’t have to live life thru the internet and others not really in our lives. You think people really care to read someone’s daily life or what their cooking or the kind of drink they are drinking?  Or maybe read their words of them saying they saw 9 deer tonight with two being small bucks not big enough to shoot.  Only to read their words on another post saying big deer are not the driving force in hunting today. Perfect Reading.

I am sorry to inform you that you are wrong. There may be a few bots but the majority are not. I think I know what bots are and what I am talking about, I have a lot of experience with message boards.

And yet you’re still here stirring the pot.  Such a bad site yet you feel the need to continue to show up and crap on peoples threads.

It's a social media forum. You put your options out there, but I can't. Interesting.

And again.  Show me where I've posted this is a bad site.  I'll wait.

Not many here have been members long enough to know the history of its origin. This forum was started by Burmjohn at a time when an existing forum suddenly shut down leaving a pile of us hanging without a New York State hunting forum. For that I thank him for the years of interesting discussions and interfaces that he made available for us to use.

Now we find that he is no longer in contact with the forum for whatever reason. Most of you have made an assumption that he has just arbitrarily abandoned the site. But none of us know the actual reason for his absence. As for myself, I am not in a hurry to judge without any facts. I can only say thanks for the 13 years that we have had the site. It was a good thing that he picked up the ball when no other New York State hunter was willing to do so.

Now let's see if the current members are adult enough to keep things going along smoothly without so much of the petty and small-minded bickering that makes the atmosphere here so strained and unfriendly at times. We don't really need all the static.

Since you seem to have vast experience with Forum Management, are there expenses incurred here and if so, who’s paying the freight?

In the same vein, are profits made and who’s collecting the bags o money?

Yes there are expenses for hosting and maintaining, this board has pop up advertising for some income, the number of clicks to the site determines the money shelled out which would go to the board owner to pay for the expenses, extra would pocketed but there no fortune and no bags of money here. I would think with the traffic here the owner can meet expenses but I do not know for sure.

My board is paid totally out of my pocket, there are zero ads, I do not want to owe anyone a cent.

Well than burmjohn is alive & well, paying invoices and collecting some amount of money for his (or lack of) efforts.    I find it incredibly hard to believe that no one has been able to contact him in this day and age and discuss the sale of this joint......

I never excepted the PM to jump ship when the exodus occurred. While it bummed me out to see some leave, I was glad to see the arrogant, name calling, self proclaimed medical and political experts hit the road. While me and my family were under enormous pressure taking care of patients, and with me working away from home on the front line taking care of veterans with serious mental health and medical needs the entire "The War  on Covid", I had to listen to many sitting home on their asses getting paid spew their hatred, ignorance, and venom. And, when one went so far as to personally attack me and reference me as a Nazi when I expressed my American patriotism and I did not jump on the hey I'm a Ukrainian bandwagon, I knew I had enough.

Again, one only need go back and read the old posts to see which members were in the end on the side of things that turned out to be correct.  I have no ill will for many who left, but I must be honest and say there were several who I feel were, or at least tried to be, the real destruction of this site and I am glad they left. In the end, I think they failed at that mission to bring this site down and some can't let it go. I hope the one's who got it all wrong and now share personal responsibility for voting for this world mess, have a shred of integrity and can look into their kids and grand kids eyes and say I'm sorry. But I doubt it!

Where you and I differ FS, and that's ok, we just seem to see things differently in this regard. I do enjoy hearing about people shooting squirrels, rabbits, big and little deer, how to pickle heart, how the garden is doing, etc. I even like to hear when people "saw 9 deer tonight with two being small bucks not big enough to shoot". I like to hear about all kinds of things related to the outdoors from people who like to share their thoughts and experiences. There were a couple people that left who I really admired with their skills at making venison sausage and such, and would have loved to have learned from them.

I'm still working full time at my age in a very hectic, challenging, physically and emotionally draining profession, and my time to be in the field is limited, so I do enjoy getting the connection even through the eyes of others. I don't have anyone to hunt with anymore since all grew up and moved away or died. So the deer camp experience I enjoyed, for me is gone.  Young or old, I'm happy as can be for someone when they shoot a doe, a spike, or a huge rack buck, because to me it's all good. If someone has the lifestyle that allows them to be able to spend lots of money and time locating a big buck, and access to the property, and they can grit it out and kill the deer, I would high five them. I would high five and congratulate you FS!  But, I suspect most people don't have the good fortune of endless free time and money even if they have the skill set to accomplish the same thing. So, I high five and congratulate anyone who has a successful hunt and a smile on their face. :  )

P.S. I have several really nice bucks mounted from my younger days, as well as a full bear mount, bear rug, a bunch of racks and hides all gathering dust on the walls of my garage. They mean nothing to anyone other than me and when I die will probably just get tossed. Just like money, they say you can't take it with you. But I'm hoping I will be able to take my memories. And you know what? My favorite deer memory was my first deer taken, a spike horn, with a Robinhood Little John bow, and my retired Army Major uncle lifelong hunting partner, now long gone, putting his finger in the blood and streaking it on my face as a ritual, and the look of pride on his face.

That's my favorite hunting memory, not any of the wall hangers in my garage.

Agree 99.9%. The 9 deer 2 little bucks come from those that say big deer does not matter to them that it’s all about meat. Yet that tag would have fit in either of those 2 little bucks just fine. And my very good guess is that It came from one that I’m sure you are glad that they are gone now.    Glad you can also see the ones that continue to come back just to stir the pots on certain posts and offer very little to nothing hunting related to this site. We have lots of room for another hunter on each ends of the state if you get that locked out of hunting land that you can’t put your tag on a great buck. So many to be had.

Libtard socialist Democrats pretending to be our friends, anything but! All the ones that hated the politics section of this board. They learned their lesson exposing themselves when they were here and I will bet a dollar to a donut they now lay low in the shadows.

I think that censoring opinions in any fashion, through active means or simply wearing folks down who don't have the bandwidth to constantly go back-and-forth diminishes us all. It leads to internet reverb, where a select few reinforce each other's opinions. I am not trying to engage in political commentary, but instead I'm expressing an opinion on social media, including message boards. Name calling, aggression, unwillingness to admit culpability of to even consider being in the wrong...it occurs on both sides of the fence. It's tough to see, and responding feels like screaming into the void. I've been active on this board for many years. I hope it continues to do well. I applaud efforts to focus on our core strengths, while maintaining individuality. But the whole blame game and denigration of other hunters is tough to take.

Well said.  On this board if you weren't on the side of the fence that many here seemed to think was mandatory on all issues you were immediately deemed a libtard socialist democrat (see the post above yours for proof of this).  This in a nutshell has been the main reason for the demise of this forum.  More so than people not being able to register.  Some of folks that remain seem to love it now that anyone with contrary opinions to theirs are gone for good.  This just proves that not everyone was welcome on this forum.  I guess they now have the type of forum they wanted.  The three or four regulars remaining can happily continue talking with each without anyone else having the nerve to interject an opposing view.

Bet I can guess who that was lol; fortunately, I do believe that he has calmed down mightily since going to his new home, realizing it wouldnt be tolerated over there....

Exactly. And the Select Few that you speak of that carried the Wolf Pack mentality and ganged up to belittle others are now history and this site so much better for it. Amazes me that some come back on here saying how bad this site is with only our 4-5 Regular posters. When in the real world there are now many more that post on here that didn’t in the past because of the wolf pack. They say the site is doomed yet the members here continue to enjoy it daily and those nay sayers continue to feel the need to try and downgrade it.

I don't care what anyone's opinion is.  Opinions are not facts and can be challenged.  If you express an opinion, you should be willing to accept challenges to your opinion.  If you have carefully formed your opinion, you should be able to defend it and do it civilly. If you get upset when others challenge your opinion and refute it with facts, you prove you have not thought it through and are just wishing it was a fact.

If that is you, admit you are not open minded and will never change your mind, no matter how many facts refute what you believe.  It's best you don't try to debate your opinion at all.

The shouting matches we see on this board are the result of people not being able to open their minds and be civil.
