All day spring turkey hunting

  I see PA is thinking of opening spring turkey all day. What are your thoughts on this for NY? I for one am all for it, most of the hens have been already been breed and have laid their eggs by the time season has opened and you can get some kids out for the afternoon hunts. Most of all the states have all day spring hunting, why not NY?

Well for me it's either or...either start our season earlier...or open all day...but I think one of these options are needed

If we get all day turkey hunting it would be at a price. DEC probably would raise the fee for the turkey tags.

I would like to see an earlier opening day for spring season.  Mid April would be a good time. IMO

I don't have a problem with the half day as much as I do with the May 1st opener.  Like some of you stated, most of the hens or on the nest or starting the beginning of May.  I think a mid April opener would be great!

The reason for that it so that the hens can sit on their nests without being disturbed by human intrusion.  Thus trying to preserve a good hatch.

or as simple as when the seasons were first opening up...it was to make sure not too many toms were taken...and undisturbed breed took place in the later part of day?....turkey # weren't as high then

push the opener back a few weeks and make a all day hunt...

but id be for and all day hunt eitherway you swing it..

PA already implemented the all day hunting for the second half of the season. I have a PA license and if I dont get one earlier I plan on giving it a try at least. I don't see much of an advantage but hey more time in the woods is more time in the woods!!

May 1st is because most of the hens are bred and the gobbling peak has passed, as for the half day pretty much been disproven as to disturbing hens on nests. I am for an all day spring hunt! but leave the opener alone.....

I think as it stands Pa is gonna run all day the 2nd half of the season? Not sure. I have never seen where it would pose a threat to the  population. I have always thought it would be a good idea. Or atleast til 2 or so. Had many birds working good around noon time. Welp gotta leave him and come back tomorrow.LOL!

I'm good with the May 1 opener - the DEC has done an excellent job managing the turkey population in this state.  I think an all day hunt could be beneficial but I'm not sure I would take advantage - afternoon's are reserved for food plots and timber stand improvement for me!!

i want dec to restore fall season and bag limit first.  would love to get 5 tags for fall and spring seasons.

Not sure NY #'s will ever be suffice to allow a 5 bird year.  IMO  One per Fall and 2 per Spring is ample enough

Anyone ask the NWTF biologist his thoughts on this??? Would be good to get his input on it.. Seeing they work with the state biologist and can help get things passed.. That's what we do here in Ma... it's a thought...
