Turned out to be an interesting morning.  Had a 120s class 8 (very big) come in downwind of me.  Pushing a spike out of thick stuff. Sure enough, he winds me and heads away from me towards line where neighbor that I do not know yet is sitting. Clear line of site.  Buck stays on our property looking around for 10min.  I am wondering if neighbor is not shooting because the buck is on our land.  I start trying to waive to him to go ahead and shoot this beauty.  No response.  Watching the whole thing through binoculars at 100 yards.  Buck finally starts heading straight down property line which is divided by a creek.  Then takes off at a trot.   The whole time I feel bad because I never saw neighbor shoot.  I then see him getting down from stand.  I decided to get down and introduce myself.

turns out to be a 14 year old shaking like a leaf.  I ask why he didn't shoot.  He says I did and I think I hit him.  I then mention the buck was on our side of creek.  His eyes are huge and doesn't know what to say.  I tell him no worries as I was hoping he got it.  He asks to go get his dad while I wait.  I find the arrow and he returns with dad who was very appreciative.  Find a fair blood trail and we agree to back out since we both know where it likely is and no point in rushing.  I end up being invited to meet whole family.  Yada yada very nice people and I am pretty sure this young man killed a near pope and young buck.  They are going back at 2pm to track and I expect a photo.  Very happy for the young kid even if he shot 30yds into our land.
Then I head back to truck to see two deer racing like heck from across road where my buddy is sitting.   Sure enough, he shot a nice 8 and I just saw the aftermath.  Great shot and we recovered buck within 70yds.
Jusy need the pic of the young man with his trophy and it will be a perfect morning.
Sitting in stand again with no intention of picking up my bow.  Gotta love it.

Classy move man. Nice work.

Memory of a lifetime for this kid.  I sure want it to be a good one.  His dad said it will be bigger than any buck he ever shot. I am just praying for an easy recovery for them.

It truly is nice to read that there are still people out there who don't suffer from "mydeeritus." You're a stand up guy, hopefully the young fella will be hanging onto horns shortly.

Kudos to you moog, great stuff right there. Good juju coming your way on how you treated it. Hope the kid finds it too  That wasn't per chance the trailcam photo of buck with arrow in him was it ?

No TF.  I got that photo of a different property right before this occurred in front of me.   My buddy called the neighbor of that property who said it was him.  I guess they decided not to track based on photo.  Like I said, manana loco.   Lol

A friend brought me to a new spot for me and one he hasn't hunted in 3 yes. We bump3d a doe not 30 yrds into walk. He gets to top of his and spots another 100yrds from him. Thick swampy area in 3n . Nice to have change of scenery and looks very deery. I have a good feeling. Good luck all.

Didnt have reception from camp, so its technically not live, but here are 2 deer taken yesterday. Took doe in morning and 5 pointer in afternoon. Both 5 pointer and another buck were chasing a doe when i shot him. After i shot the 5 pointer the other buck came in grunting and left grunting. Great day, freezer almost full and done for now with crossbow. Shot the doe at 35 yards and buck a tad over 20 yards.20161105_211354.jpg20161105_181347.jpg

Tip of the camo hat to Moog !

My hunting partner and I filled our buck tags already , so we went to my spot to move a stand and shoot our rifles on my range .

While doing so his wife sent these " live from his front yard on Irondequoit Bay !

That second buck is a beast, let's hear from the on the hoof folks, that's a perfect pic to age him. I'll say 3.5 but I'm not great at it

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
