outdoorstom
I hired two Amish guys to help me with my barn rehab. The foundation was shot on one side, there are rotten board, and the windows need a lot of attention. We've got the old foundation torn out and the footer poured for the new wall. Lots done in the first two days. These guys can work....they're killing me and I'm calling them my personal trainers.

grampy
I have a thing for old barns, love em! They were made to last, with craftsmanship that is hard to find today. Your barn is a beauty for sure! Glad that the rehab is coming along fine. And the Amish guys do some top notch work! Please post some pic's when done.
fasteddie
Old barns are neat . It's a shame to see so many of them being torn down . Some were eyesores but they stood the sands of time and survived a long time . Nice job on Outdoorstom's barn .
Doewhacker
I've caught this shot a coupe of times, very interesting to see how it was done before power tools. Worth a gander. http://www.diynetwork.com/shows/barnwood-builders/episodes
philoshop
I've done a lot of work on my brother's two small barns over the years, and he's hired specialists at times for roof cabling and whatnot. Barns are part of our history as Americans. It's a history we can't lose. eta: Beautiful barn you have. Thanks for keeping her working. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Those 'bottle' jacks are usually from the railroad yards. My brother owns a few that I regularly borrow. A lot safer than hydraulic jacks when you're in dangerous conditions.

I'm going to line the banks of the pond with those rocks to prevent muskrat damage. Also, the farmer I lease 50 acres to is having my fields tiled. He's agreed to do one of my food plots at his expense too :-) Edited June 23, 2017 by outdoorstom

Doc
Old barns are a visual glimpse into local history. They depict a lifestyle that is slowly disappearing. I love it when people take the time and money and effort to preserve these structures. I get the same kick out of watching old farmhouses being resurrected. It is all versions of rescued history.

outdoorstom
Work continues on the barn. Replacing bad beams as we find them. Found a cracked main beam that will require cabling....picked up some 1/2" cable and that will be done tomorrow. Been raining every day and it's too wet to get the cement truck in. Plenty to do as we wait for it to dry up. Tiling job was completed today and I hired them to pull back the only part of the pond bank that was too steep to mow. I see some grass seed in my
outdoorstom
Finally will be dry enough to get a truck in....concrete coming Wednesday afternoon. In the meantime we're replacing windows as necessary with new (used) ones. Today on the opposite side of the barn we addressed a dry rotted support beam by taking a lot of the load off it with an 8x8 post. The wall had moved inward 8" Edited July 4, 2017 by outdoorstom

Jeremy K
My buddy did a complete roof on his barn a couple years back , they ripped the entire roof off and made the walls the same height to start . From the lowest point to the highest point the removed a foot and a half of wall to make it level . I remember it being a big job that took awhile.
