Feeling a little age this morning

Other than a bad knee, I haven’t felt my age was catching me.  But this morning while training atlas stones, I started feeling it a bit.  Usually 5 sets of 3 reps with my midweight Stone is reasonably easy, but today I thought I would toss a lung after set 2.  Had to slow down to a rep a minute for the next 9.  Maybe it has been my lack of intense workouts lately but I definitely have to kick it up a notch!   Can’t give in to the age excuse!

just complaining to no one in particular.   Carry on while I catch my breath.

I dug out 55 vehicles at work yesterday. And last night I could barely move.  A couple of my boys were after me to go out for beers and BS and didn't go.  Yup age def catches up.

I ain't as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was - that's what I tell myself at least.....lol

At 47 years old I sometimes feel my age..As a carpenter/foreman and the "old"guy on site a get a kick out of being able to work circles around the young guys. Lol..

I have noticed in the last few years it doesn't come as easy as it used too... As a general rule I won't grab a hold of the really heavy things anymore.  I was 210# of muscle now it's a little more like 250# mixture..:). I say I don't have to prove that I can pick up the 300#s .. I havnt tried in a few years ..so maybe I cant..lol

Welcome to middle age moog! That time when your mind writes checks, your body can't cash.

Ain’t giving up just yet Dave.  In fact, I am more motivated to train now.  That said, it may just be my mind writing checks.   I take some solace in knowing that I can still bench more than most NFL players.   But I am guessing that the percentage catching me Is growing  each year.  Such is life.

Welcome to the club you thought you’d never be in !

In the academy my fellow recruits called me “ Ironman “, my first LT.  called me Rhino, not a door or wall could stop the rhino !

The other day a 24 y/o lesbian and rookie FF grabbed my bunker coat to steady me on some rickety stairs.....WTF happened to me !!!

My father would ooh & aah , grunt & groan when he would get in the car to go hunting/fishing when he was 71ys.old & my brother & I would ask "what are you getting old" & he would say "you just F- ing wait!".  Well I must admit he was right & I am at that point.  Bad shoulders, knees & kinky neck pain WTH. this getting old is not all it's cracked up to be, but it is better than the alternative! He also use to say the only thing golden about the golden years is your p!$$ due to all the pills your on.

Maybe you're getting sick? My run on Wednesday was harder then the other ones and sure enough  on Thursday , i had flu like body aches until saturday which seem to be gone now and no other real sickness.

I will accept this excuse.   Lol

Here is one that might be harder to accept:

Lots of archery practice, all right or left handed, is asking for trouble as you get older, because it leads to uneven arm development (triceps on one side, biceps on the other) as well as spine and neck issues.  I am extremely thankful that NY state legalized the crossbow when they did, so I have not had to deal with that issue in my fifties.   In my younger days, I kept an old 30 % let-off, heavy draw weight compound around and used that to try and keep both sides in shape, doing equal number of draws, and slow releases both right and left handed.

Bow hunting was always right handed though, so I really appreciate that the crossbow is legal for the peak of the rut in the southern zone and starting a month earlier up in the northern zone.  That has helped out a lot in allowing me to secure all of the protein our family needs for the last 4 seasons, while not having any shoulder issues.

Come-on guys....... Aren't you really rushing this old age thing a bit ..... lol. At 74, I am properly impressed with what I can still do. Digging out from this latest snow storm showed me that I may have a few more good years left in me yet. Yeah, I've slowed up a few steps, and I might be a little bent, but I ain't broke yet. Still bow hunting with real bows and wandering all over the killer-hill out back. Not too much grunting and groaning when I get in and out of my tiny Honda Civic. I'm not sure what it will be like when I really get old, but right now everything is still working adequately......and that is without ever visiting a gym since high school. I have to agree that getting old does suck, but I'm reserving the complaints until I really am old.

I was really referring to a decline in peak performance.  I still shouldered a 270lb cement stone 15 times yesterday which is pretty good at any age.  But, its a little harder for me now than 10 years ago.  That I will admit.

My grandfather never paid attention to his age.  I recall him picking up 90lb dumbells in my gym when he was 90 years old just to show me he could.  He broke his age in golf at 91.  And was still climbing trees to cut limbs in his late 80s.  No doubt staying active kept him running at near full boar until he passed at almost 97 years old.  I hope I can follow his lead for sure.

doing farm work now versus back when i lived on the farm as the oldest son/free labor. i noticed not having all the little stabilizer muscles toned up like i was in really good shape and working myself more often kicks my butt.  i can still move the same heavy things but don't have near the control moving heavy things into place and it's more exhausting.  core sucks.  i used to be able to pick 2 50lb bags of seed with each arm up to my shoulder from a tailgate with ease.  now i could do it still but probably lose one off my shoulder often and just about fall over until i got my footing to start walking. not to mention my back would kill me later when the pallet was empty. I'm not even middle aged! couple decades or more like this and i could be in real trouble. lol  might as well stick to washing dishes in the house.

i'm pretty sure it's not your age but the fact we're talking atlas stones. the concept of storing large round stones weighing that much in a corner like another guys 35lb dumbbells seems extreme even though i get it.

You mean everyone doesn't have a set of atlas stones in their basement?
