Got this one around 10am while still hunting with the 870. Dropped right in her tracks as she ran.5 points

Why is this fat guy happy ? He finally got to shoot a gun at a deer and fill a DMP this morning. O.K. it wasn't a great shot but the deer is hanging up. I had this one come in behind me while I was sitting in a tree stand about 8:25 this morning in 8F. I watched her kick up her heels and run after the shot.I waited and about 10 minutes later 7 more doe snuck past in the brush.2 of them were huge and several were smaller than this girl here.I didn't have anymore dmp's for that area and the shots would not have been that good anyways. The freezer will be getting full.5 points

My Dad shot this spike this morning at 803am in Putnam County (3N). Story and trail cam pics of the same buck here > http://huntingny.com...-putnam-county/2 points

Not to disrespect any hardcore, diehard hunters from the city.. But I have to say I hate being from up-state NY and have all these city hunters come up here turning the woods into a damn war zone. If your goal is to come up here and blast anything that moves you're wrong. And if it takes you 5 shells to get it done then quite frankly you shouldnt be in the woods. It's sad when you don't even want to go out and hunt in fear of some guy blasting at you through the brush. I dont even want to step on the state land that borders our 50+ acres. Anyone else feel the same??1 point

I hunt NY and PA and they both are unique in their own way. I like the antler restrictions in PA because they helped me become a better hunter as far as slowing down, looking exactly what I'm shooting at because prior to antler restrictions I was less likely to pass a good shot on a small deer. After a few years of antler restrictions you are seeing some bigger deer but I still find mcuh larger bucks in NY. The hunting pressure where I hunt in PA is huge. There was always Antler restrictions in PA as far as the horn had to be at least 3 inchs and doe and buck season did run concurrent so you didn't have the brown its down mentality that I see here in NY with some hunters.1 point

Was it your first time there? You do have to be careful it is 15K acres - thankfully it's not as overgrown as some other areas like Stewart where there's not way through in the direction you want to go and have to backtrack! I'm thinking your rock throwing bigfoot was a beaver slapping it's tail and the first time I heard it it scared the crap out of me too. Thought it was someone on shore throwing bowling balls at us. Almost capsized the canoe! I went in by Blue Mtn. lake at 5:45, sat for a bit then still hunted a loop over to the cedar pond parking area and out by 11am. Did not even see one squirrel! Is everything hibernating?1 point

That depends on what you would consider a mountable buck. I have one mounted and might mount the one I shot this year. I will only mount a buck that scores 110 or above. As to the shooting small bucks I'd rather not shoot a buck than shoot an immature buck. It's more about the challenge of shooting a mature deer. I'll get my venison from a doe or two (if I get a DMP tag) and then hunt for a nice buck. I may be young but I still know what's worth shooting and what's not.1 point

I think totally opposite, Ive been hunting PA for 10yrs and I look forward to PA rifle than NY opener. Antler restriction did great for PA. The first 5 yrs in and already broke B&C records. As for the antlerless slaughter we can shoot just as many here in NY. I'd shoot does for meat and wait for that buck of a life time instead of shooting a 1.5 old 4 point. NYS has many great areas for whitetail, now just think if laws were changed like the 1 buck only states. What would we be seeing then.1 point

JFB I have a question, if I was hunting and saw a wounded animal, I would have used my tag to expire it.. Did you already fill your buck tag ?????1 point

I'm a one-shot per deer guy, but I can confess that I focused primarily on bow practice this year. My gun spent it's pre season time in my safe , and I used it opening morning to take a doe, opening afternoon for another doe. Both one shot dropped in their tracks. I have spent a lot of time with it since then... and in prior years I have tuned it in to my needs. So long as my scope doesn't take a hit from a drop... I know where my rifle hits... we're good friends1 point

Its not just against that don't consider it hunting. The record books as well as the DEC don't conisder it hunting. Hunting requires fair chase and a hunting license.1 point

You have a point there ,Aaron...If all of those hundreds of mountain lions that people report seeing can exist with no physical evidence other than eye witness reports, an animal with much HIGHER intelligence, like a sasquatch, should be able to exist in fairly large numbers without detection... Shucks, there may be THOUSANDS of them out there...I suspect that a large number of them voted for Obama......1 point

Here's a mature doe shot by my son at 101 yds., yesterday afternoon. Weighs in at 161 lb..1 point

carrying 2 muzzloaders, is it really that important to you? what happened to just trying to enjoy the hunt. its enough of a pain in the arse loading, unloading, swabing, dry patchin, one muzzloader. and carrying the weight of an extra arm into the hills? carry one gun n take yer shot and make it count man!!1 point

There is no justification for such a class. There have been no notices of such from the DEC.1 point

Tughill, youre fine. Id remove the nonsense from this thread further, but I think belo, as a NYB member, has done the NYCC a favor in showing how a real NYB member acts.1 point

The evolvment of our country's education system is symptomatic of how we handle all our issues...talk til people are blue or red in the face and repeat the same mistake in a different fashion with more money, less taxes, less money, more taxes...etc. I have an undergraduate degree in education. I thought that helping kids grow as a teach would be a noble career, even if it didn't pay all that well (save for retirement system and benefits). When student teaching at one of the better districts, the teacher I was learning under was in his 14th year making $43k a year and had to pave driveways or paint houses in the summer to make ends meet. Great teacher, too. That's stupid...the guy has a graduate degree and 14 years into a career and makes that little change. I promptly graduated and went into the business field as a result and made more than he did in my first year out of college. So what's the answer? The whole educational system needs to be torn down and rebuilt...band aids don't work. I also think that students are NOT getting the level of hands-on experience they need to compete in the current global economy. I work with two visa holders from China who perform risk analytics for a major company in NY. I also work with two Americans who do the same job - one of them...parents were both professors. The other...a country boy like me who simply chose to work hard and take initiative to gain the experience. Experiential learning and initiative was really the only common trait amongst all people in my microcosm. You can't change whether someone is intrinsic or extrinsic as far as motivation goes...but you can influence the education system to impart experiential learning. I get to see the value of an MBA in my role, and let me tell you, there's a big difference. Tier 1 MBAs can do. Lesser MBAs have zero clue. Those Tier 1 MBA are super agressive in study AND practice. No so for lesser MBA programs. The same can be applied to all technical roles and even trade skills.1 point

Parking at a hydrant, when there is no hydrant. Double parking when I wasn't parked. Parking at no standing when not parked or standing. Disobeying marked pavement, when the markings are worn out. In all these cases, I've had to fight these tickets and was a big time waister. These things come in waves. It's like all of a sudden, they come out in full force giving out massive tickets, then we won't see them for another year or two and same thing happens again. So its not a matter of doing everything right, it's a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Let's not even start about the cops fixing tickets, huge scandals with that being exposed not too long ago in NYC.1 point

So they should have ordered you and your friends to stay put, chased the other guys and made you wait until that whole deal was over???? I think you would have bitched about that too. Just a hunch. IMHO if you get caught you get caught. Just think of all the times you didn't get caught. ....... Ball up1 point

What the hell ...... I had no idea that there was anywhere in the USA where they had such a ridiculous system of gun registration for long guns. That is just crazy. That alone would keep me from ever living in that kind of repressive system. Seriously .. I am not a militia-type, but they certainly have crossed over the line. $100 for finger-printing plus $120 for the application. And then 4 months until you get the license (if you get it). That is just plain harrassment! And it's not even a pistol that we are talking about, but your favorite shotgun or rifle. Man, that is just plain BS!!!1 point
