I saw the moose on the trail from quite a distance away and I would assume he did too. But he kept on going further down the trail. I would have just waited a few minutes. The moose would have eventually moved. This guy barely waited a few seconds. Yes, once the moose charged, it was justifiable but it shouldn't have gotten to that in the first place. Someone once mentioned that the rule is you shouldn't do while carrying what you wouldn't not do if you were not carrying. Apparently having a gun on him gave him the attitude that he owns the road.4 points

The anti-crossbow movement boils down to a group of bowhunters that can't seem to get rid of the hardon they have for crossbows.. if it persists for more than 4 hours you should see your doctor...3 points

I can't convince myself to stay with back tension for hunting yet. I think about one of those crazy, leaning under a limb shots and think it would make it twice as hard with back tension. I know shooting back tension at Xs, I tend to be more accurate, but not by enough to give up the strap for hunting, and I don't compete anyway. It does teach you how to properly pull through the shot though and that has helped even with my strap release.2 points

the person behind the weapon probably plays as much of a role, if not more, into successfully defending yourself than the weapon does.........2 points

Finished off the rabbit season with a strong finished. Spent the day kicking piles and ended up with 10 in the bag.1 point

That carter just shoots when its supposed too when squeezing the back - always a surprise and no thought needed - very natural for me. Much harder for me to naturally shoot my fuse cinch with back tension. But, I feel like there is less room for a really bad shot with the fuse when hunting. I might just need more time shooting back tension to gain confidence and recognize I could punch if needed on the "drive by". lol1 point

You guys that are saying a D Loop changes your DL are killin me!!! It simply does NOT change your DL. It changes only your anchor. Go ahead and drop your DL 2" and add a 2" D Loop and let me know how that works out for you. I guarantee you that your accuracy will suffer big time. I think most people should worry about having the correct DL to begin with. I can't tell you how many times I see guys on the shooting line leaning back to make up for to long of a DL and they don't even realize they are. The best and most accurate way I've come across to find the right DL is to stand against a door jamb so your standing nice and straight, then draw your bow. You will immediately know if your to long or short.1 point

OK...all of a sudden this conversation just got really interesting. Time for me to join in.1 point

2 people have keys to my house other than me. They would know enough to turn lights on on their way in and announce their precense. The dog would be my first alert anyhow. Id know someone was there before they knew i was. My attitude is a bit different when the kids are here. Im not saying im gonna take pot shots in the dark, or shoot at the first noise that wakes me up lol.1 point

I was talking about personal bowhunting experience... most people will have no idea if there is a crossbow hunter anywhere near them... it shouldn't and won't have any impact on your day of bowhunting... the fact that a lot of hunters in Ohio and PA are taking deer with crossbow has no bearing on what crossbow hunting will be in NY... the best you can figure from that info is that crossbow hunting is very popular in OH and PA and those guys are pretty successful... maybe that's what makes it popular.1 point

Yes. Training helped, but seeing my family was an extremely calming factor. If I wasn't calm and focused, I wouldn't have made it home. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk1 point

Look, if we are going to break out the loin cloths there may be some protests based on visual pollution. Also, the season is going to have to occur at a much warmer part of the year. Also, if done at Letchworth, somebody other than myself is going to have to go down in there to retrieve the deer.1 point

My personal opinion is that is some one enters your home while you are there it isn't a target of opportunity. If they know you are likely there, they know there may likely be a confrontation. There will be no warning shot, not shouting that I have a gun. no noise of the slide racking. The notice that will be given that they messed up and chose the wrong house will be the muzzle flash. and it won't be from a 22.1 point

One of my better stories is my first year hunt I was sitting at the base of a tree and my dad was off to my left. Well he ended up kicking a deer to me and this was the first deer I've ever seen while hunting well I raise my gun and shoot a few times I can't remember how many but the deer runs out of sight. My dad saw the whole thing and a yell to him is it down and he tells me yes well I get super excited thinking I've just gotten my first deer. Well my dad sees my excitement and yells well it's not down down it ran down the hill. That was defiantly a buzz kill1 point

Makes a lot of sense ! Almost zero recoil , weapon would never leave the target , cheap and with enough holes in the assailant they will not be going anywhere !1 point

I've seen a lot of livestock put down with a .22......although it was all point blank and had to be put in the right spot, it was nothing less than devastating1 point

Sorry Bunkie, but I haven't engaged in any of the silly re-runs of arguments for or against crossbows in quite a while. So your comment as usual makes absolutely no sense. As far as I'm concerned it is a done deal and all this endless back and forth arguing has no real point any more, especially that stuff that is on its 23rd go around. The hunting community has decided for the bow hunters what their bow season is going to be turned into, and now it is just a case of sitting back and seeing how it all turns out. Besides, at my stage of life, who the heck cares ..... lol.1 point

Surplus military bridge? But seriously I've know a person or two who have use shipping containers for bridges. A friend in Canada used one to control access to the bridge by leaving the doors on one side and torching the other end open.1 point

I used long pieces of railroad tracks. Used longer pieces than needed, lay 4 to 6 side by side and then a couple walking sticks to keep the balance as you walk across. Ours is only maybe 12ft across or so but very fast and high with ice in the spring. They have been down for years now with no problems.1 point

I heard a very strong and cheap "bridge" can be made with 2 old telephone poles. They are very strong, cheap, and were recommended for a friend who wanted to drive his gator over a creek.1 point

Not doing a soil test is just plain crazy imo. Western is also experienced in plotting and has the equipment and knowledge and it's not his first rodeo. Compare his equipment $$$ investment and prep list vs. what you have available and that changes things I suspect. Sure, you aren't a pro, there's nothing wrong with it. I just don't get how you can do the "research" and then not do a soil sample. Did you do ANYTHING to get seed to soil contact? You limed with no sample? How did you know what amount to lime? To me, it just sounds like you want someone who agrees with you to offer advice from here on out, so best of luck. In parting, fall planting of clover is better imo as it offers you better odds long-term in your situation. I've given you beginner advice. You need all the help you can get and fall planting provides more of it.1 point
