I guess if it ever came to mandatory reporting regardless of success, they could always suspend a hunting license for failure to do so....probably not much different then suspending a drivers license or registration for the variety of reasons they do, there is no fine in most cases and the only time you would be fined is if caught driving with the suspended status in effect...2 points

My spouse was the same way, years ago, but she came around. The other day, she asked where the new one going to be displayed, as the living rooms getting quite full. We don't have one hanging in the bedroom, my answer. Her reply, yours would look real nice there, LOL.2 points

from the news article it seems as they know who it was. I just can not even fathom an explanation as to how you could mistake a horse for ANY kind of legal game animal... being a horse owner there is a lot I would like to type out here but i know better.... completely inexcusable and the shooters .should loose their hunting privileges for life! absolutely NO excuse for this!2 points

Years ago there was a local incident where 2 horses were shot and killed in a farmers barnyard during deer season.. I always suspected that someone had a grudge against the farmer and used the opportunity of DEER SEASON to get even with him.. The shooter was never caught. Nobody is going to mistake a horse for a deer, much less a coyote.2 points

There are several wind turbines just east of Cleveland, Ohio in a commercial section of the city. They look like they belong there. They don't all need to be out in the country.1 point

Beacause the Land owner that just bought the property sold it to the turbine companys ruining views that Many People and there familes have been enjoying for Generations. On a side note, This is what happened to my property in Warsaw. I own some property on the Hill outside of warsaw, 5 Years Ago there was a incredible view, Enjoying dinner while looking out to the mountains..Now 60 plus? Ugly disgusting White poles with a red blinking light. Completly ruined my realestate value, But it's okay cause some guy bought himself a lambo right? rant over...1 point

I hate "yeah but" scenarios, so what follows is irritating for me to say. That said, there are situations where small acreage is valuable - look at some of the Finger Lakes. People buy houses just to knock them down so they can build a bigger house on the property combined with the parcel next door. One piece of ground I hunt on once in a blue moon is 17 acres and it has a a pretty lucrative natural gas lease because of its location off of Keuka Lake. The property is the prime access to the ones behind it for transit. I'm sure there are probably alot of people that might not get similar treatment, but small parcels aren't in and of themselves excluded from interest.1 point

http://smallfarms.cornell.edu/2012/07/07/slaughtering-cutting-and-processing/ I think it's only regulated when it's processed in a real slaughterhouse with farm raised animals, other than that there appears to be no regulations on deer butchering as far as I could see. the above link gives you more info then you'd ever need on slaughtering and butchering...and that's pretty much just for USDA health concerns, nothing as far as documenting what's coming and going.1 point

Nothing against you Phade, but that kind of mindset disgust me. I know of this mindset these days all to well "what's in it for me." Hell, that's how this countrys got where it is today. To hell with the neighbor, that pays their fair share in taxes, just as well as eyeryone else. And if the towns don't go along, with it. we'll just elect the kind of people that will. I blame the teaching profession for the materials taught to the students in the public schools today. Kids are young and can be modeled in any shape, way, or form. Some of our mentors just plain stink!1 point

Wind power is not cost effective. If it wasn't for governmental subsidies at this time, they would not exist. A "Fad' just like the electric car will be. Just a matter of years, and they will be an abandon eyesore on the horizon. Who knows, they may just attract the public, like light houses do today.1 point

I was out doing a little shed hunting yesterday and was surprised to find the woods absolutely torn up with turkey scratching (saw about 25 birds in the field). Had these three guys stop by one of my trailcams... I would love to put a tag on this one. Looks like he may be multibearded?1 point

For TBT, I wanted to share my video of a day out commercial fishing in New Zealand. We were hand lining albacore tuna as fast as we could, meanwhile the mako sharks were cleaning our hooks. Enjoy -JR1 point

before you spend a penny you need to see what your draw length is and see what the bow is set at. you can do all this at a quality Mathews dealer I think that you can still order any cam from Mathews incase the draw of the bow is not same as you.1 point

I could be wrong , but I don't think they exist anymore. I used to see them in the Trapper & Predator magazine. I only see the Cortland County Trappers listed now.1 point

I think that I mentioned here last year about having talked to a couple NY wildlife biologist from the DEC about a plan to get 100% deer harvest reporting from hunters to get better numbers to help with future decisions on DMP and other population control plans. Neither biologist thought that 100% reporting would be any better than their existing statistical formulas that they use now with the low hunter reports they get currently. I found it very odd that they thought their math was as good or better than actual numbers... Not sure how that kind of mentality plays out for coming up with good information as a basis for making good management decisions... I understand that even with 100% of the hunters reporting there would be deer killed that were not reported.. but the numbers would have to be better than simply using educated guessing... I made me wonder a little about the guys making the decisions.1 point

The strings are usually 60 bucks but the installation price depends on the pro shop. If you get strings I suggest bow string depot. He makes awesome custom strings and its an awesome guy!1 point

That the ice storm of 1991? Boy did THAT change the landscape in the Finger Lakes........funny thing though, IIRC the east facing hillside got hammered worse than west facing. That ice storm completely ended my spring gobbler hunting on the west side of Canadice. I had been doing very well there from the early 80's until then....After the storm, the woods were totally impenetrable. After about ten years it was hunt-able again but I had found some other hotspots.1 point

turkey populations across the state vary from poor to excellent. our area here has taken a large hit over the last 3 yrs. we lost close to 60% of our birds 3 winters ago both adults and juveniles. heavy snow cover with a quick warm up and then a sudden drop in temps made it almost impossible for them to dig through the crust to feed. with an extended cold spell coupled with the snow cover we had birds roosting until they died. I had birds roosting in the yard so they could hit the bird feeders.. thankfully around here we don't have many fall turkey hunters when hens can also be taken but it certainly wouldn't hurt for them to close our fall season for a year or 2 to see if that helps the population rebound.1 point

I was 12 or 13. I remember me and my father walking in knee deep snow, around the corner to my grandparents house. My uncle lived in the top floor and wanted to get his car out of the driveway to go somewhere. We started to shovel the driveway and then pointed out to my uncle that is was useless because there was still 3 feet of snow in the street. Then all hell broke loose when my father, grandfather and uncle all started arguing about it. Italians tend to be loud. My grandmother called me in the house for hot chocolate and cookies. My uncle ended up staying home.1 point

I work at a well-known company in Rochester. We have a hiring need for our department due to a product growth beyond expectations. It's a good foot in the door role with a company you can grow with, and very stable. Good benefits. Work isn't that bad, either. Busy, but not horrible work. Recent college grads, or people a year or two out of college. I know there's probably a few parents here with kids that might fit this bill. Good leadership/bosses, I know them personally. Please PM me if interested.1 point

I have no problems with the DEC polling hunters for opinions as long as the results don't start replacing the principles of game management. And from where I sit I have to say that it sure looks like that is exactly what's happening. Far better that the DEC should be shaping public education and opinions rather than public opinions being gathered as marching orders of the DEC.1 point

Big fan of my lever guns, especially my 444S. Been shooting a handloaded Hornady 265gr. FP exclusively for more than thirty years. The only knock I have with the Marlin is it's pencil-thin buttstock and drop. Felt recoil would be less if they fitted it with a decent buttstock. I don't notice the recoil afield with heavy loads but when practicing in the summer I do. I worked up some 240 gr. lead loads @ around 1,100 FPS that shoot to POA @ 25 yds. My BLR in .257 Roberts has taken a shine to 117 gr. -120 gr. bulletweights. I have yet to work up a lightweight bullet weight for varmints. I'll get around to it hopefully this summer. This gun and cartridge is a delight to shoot. A pre-war Savage 99R in .300 Savage. This only takes trips to the range but it's suprisingly accurate. Classic design and lines. It's a shame these are not popular now. And their prices only escalate.1 point
