Spring turkey hunting The most fun part for me is shooting the turkey, which is probably all your favorite thing I haven't shot anything yet cause it is my first year hunting The first time I went turkey hunting I was 10 my brother had me video while he hunted, a few Jakes came in to about 20 yards but we wanted the gobbler we heard. We ended up not being able to call it in This is my first year hunting with a gun I think I have a good chance even if I am inexperienced, next year I'm going to try with a bow I love hunting and have always wanted to hunt and now that I'm old enough I can't wait even if I have to get up at 4:00 I've gone deer duck and turkey hunting with my brother so its not hard to get up at 4 and have a cup of coffee and go I have done a lot of pigeon and squirrel hunting with a 22 around the farm and have shot quite a few animals My dad sometimes would have me shoot the birds that came to eat the planted seed in the spring By Jeremiah Martin Here it is ????3 points

I hear you about the patience...I've been going crazy waiting for the dang snow to melt so I can finally start hitting some spots up. I hope to start some serious shed hunting starting monday...2 points

Thanks guys! This antler actually has a 9" G-2 so I'll post another pic angle that shows it better with my next installment. Only problem I have is I can't tell if it's fresh or old..... not that it matters at this point, but it would be nice to know if I should watch for him this year or not. Red- I've only been through Frankentines territory once while there was knee deep snow. I think that area will be on the schedule for this weekend! Man, I sure would love to find another set of his! It feels weird to be getting off to such a late start, but there wasn't much I could do about it besides try to be patient.2 points

Stay home until you learn how to behave yourself... If you thought that was appropriate in front of an audience, there's no telling what you'll do when no one is watching you.2 points

Hi guys, guess who finally woke up from his winter slumber? I finally put antler #3 on the pile today. I wasn't really looking for horns.... just trying to find a place to cross the creek to take some pics when I spotted this guy melted out in a swampy section. I hope there's more around. I forgot how much fun it is to find these things! Antlers- 3 Sets- 0 Dead bucks- 1 Dead doe/fawns- 152 points

I prefer muck boots. I use the same pair I early season deer hunt with. I think they're woodymax or something? I've been wanting to pick up a lighter pair with less insulation but just haven't pulled the trigger. They do well in the swampy and mucky areas though and are easy to slip on and off.2 points

I started this conversation and then ignored the rest of it so I apologize in advance if this post is redundant. For me, Cuomo declared peace in a hundred little towns in NYS. Since the Court of Appeals ruled that towns could ban fracking, a decision to allow fracking would have returned the residents of these towns to a state of war with their neighbors and friends. Cuomo may not have made the decision for the right reasons but he made the right decision for human health, the environment, and especially for the people of NYS. Peace on the matter of gas drilling will now prevail in town councils across the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions.2 points

The KXL is a "tar sands" pipeline. It has nothing to do with gas or oil & would not benefit any of the people that live in the area, or the United States for that matter. At least not as far as long term jobs or financial gain.1 point

One time I broke a guy's leg & took his Colt Python from him. He told the cops he was "just trying to scare me". Well he did scare me. Scared me enough to where I figured I better get the gun away from him before he did something stupid with it. I asked the cops if I could keep it.1 point

Sure, we all have our own ways of providing that challenge, but I suspect that for most hunters, they have some level of expected challenge that drives them to pit their skills and wit against the critters. And like you, everybody probably has that ever-changing set of challenges, usually getting more and more restrictive as time goes on.1 point

And for me at my stage of hunting life it is more the animal. I cant just sit in a tree and wait for something to walk by, shoot it and call it hunting any longer. I now need to find an animal or two to kill and then go.. Hunt Them..until i win or its a bust. Will i shoot a mature buck that fits the bill for me that i didnt know was there, you bet ya but to just go sit and wait without having a quarry or two just does not do it for me any longer. Like i said before, I am sure in some areas just finding a deer, any deer, would be like the same as having a single buck or two picked out.1 point

Good job Lou! That was a very nice gesture to get things rolling!1 point

Naturally the first thing I looked for was antlers, then it was just nice to see so many deer that found a good food source this winter. Good job Pav, that was a pretty critical time of year for them to get through...... if they made it!1 point

This year-old Golden Eagle dropped in for a feed this week. Almost all the goldens we see now are migrants. The adults go north first to get on their territories. The juveniles go later, usually in April. What is interesting here is that you can see the tail feathers of its first molt coming in. Each year, the white flight feathers of the wing and tail are gradually replaced with feathers with more dark and less white. When they are sexually mature, they are all dark.1 point

I think that for me, the whole idea of challenge is the reason that I hunt. Otherwise I would simply go to the supermarket and get some nice choice cuts of beef. And there has to be some element of challenge that makes me enjoy bowhunting more than gun hunting. It is a limiting of hunting implement that causes the challenge level to go up. I know that it was the idea of taking on a more challenging way of hunting that got me into bowhunting.1 point

Well we have a yellow and chocolate, so why not a black right? Its something that we toss around every now and then. Keep us posted.1 point

I believe that it was more of a crazy high population than anything too weird about the weather. However, I do remember that the first day that I went over to see the mess, the wind was howling, and the snow was coming down pretty good. I don't recall any huge snow depths (perhaps a foot to a foot and a half of snow on the ground at the time. But judging from the fact that it was April '89 marked on the slides tells me that the winter was reaching into that month without any breaks. I have always heard that more than the actual severity of the winter, starvation rates are influenced more by the length of duration. Between that and the fact that there were so many deer everywhere in that valley (the entire length of the lake and beyond), it was kind of a perfect storm sort of event where several things were going bad at once.1 point

Or this... http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/cornell-professor-isis-group/2015/03/27/id/635017/ I don't think they'd backpedal like that if it was all faked. O'Keefe can be a dink sometimes with regard to propaganda, but M Moore and A Gore hold that position pretty firmly for the socialist camp and they get entire movies and awards and lots more money and media support.1 point

The Dec fishing guide shows it in their list of baits to be used but this could also be a trap.I use a mixture of cornmeal and red food colloring for carp. Those empty cans were to hold the shine/drink LOL.1 point

Common corn is legal anywhere that doesn't specify fly fishing only or artificial lures. However, the evil "assault corn" has been restricted under the "safe fishing" act and can only be possessed on a trout stream if it is registered, and then only in quantities of 5 kernels or less.1 point

More photos including some aggressive coyotes, a rabbit right out of Monty Python, golden and bald eagles, ravens, red-tailed hawks and rough-legged hawks. I just realized, if you click on the photos, it gives you a larger version. Maybe I was the only one who didn't know that.1 point

We've tried to figure out how to set one up. We cannot get the necessary upload speeds in these rural areas. I do have about 6 hours of raven and eagle chatter that I edited down to the best 6 minutes. I hope to have that MP3 posted on youtube soon. When it happens, I will provide a link. Ravens make some bizarre noises. If you have never heard a Bald Eagle, they sound like other seabirds - more like a gull than anything you hear in a movie.1 point
