Been there done that, it sucks but it sounds like you did more work looking for that deer than 90% of hunters. Don't let it beat you up and get back in the stand.6 points

I just basically did a phone interview with a company that approached me recently, after about 5 min the guy finally asked why I was whispering, when I told him he burst out laughing. He told me to get back to my hunt, get a big buck and that he would see me on Thursday. Hopefully he brings me some luck5 points

Just happens to be that my 1 bow weekend this season will this coming weekend. Just happens to be the first real cold front of the season. Forecast is for mid 40's during the day and low 30's with possible snow showers at night. Talking with my brother in-law he said the first real cold days of bow season can bring some great hunting. Deer will be very active and it will pump up the bucks. I have seen this in the past a few times early October when the temps got down in the 20-30's. Granted being that cold they will move anyway but it just seems to get them really moving being it is the first real cold snap. Anyone else observe this? FL4 points

Looks like somebody has been working out those neck muscles... My friend couldn't hunt saturday afternoon due to a wedding. Lucky for him, his sister in law didn't take her son out for the youth hunt that night...3 points

I drive the Gator down with the windows ,I'm in a hurry and buzzing along sun in my eyes . Just as I get to the blind I realize there is a fawn standing infront of the blind watching me...I stop and it turns and runs..OK grab stuff and hit the ladder to see the doe 15 yrds away looking at me...then she goes about eating...I slowly climb the ladder and she is walking toward me...Get to deck and see a button buck...eating towards me...Those two let me (arms loaded) open the blind door go in and work on the windows the whole time standing 10 ft from the blind and looking up once in a while... they took one last look about a half hour later and went down into the swamp...make me laugh!3 points

My trusted mechanic was a good friend of mine. He charged me $70 an hour and I didn't complain because I never felt he was ripping me off, and I just don't like doing that sort of work. He asked me two years ago to build an addition on his shop and screamed bloody murder when I qouted him a rate of $35 an hour. After the mennonites he hired to build the addition screwed up the job he asked me to come in and and fix it. I told him that if he brought his addition over to my shop I'd be happy to fix it for $70 an hour. I have a shop and a fixed base of operation with many of the same overhead costs, but I'm expected to pack and transport all of my tools and materials to his job site for half of what he charges? My current mechanic is a Jamaican pot-smokin' Rastafarian retired from the auto industry who does a little side work. I do not partake of his sacrament, but he also drinks beer, so we get along just fine. We mostly trade services. I have a great-running truck and he has a really nice kitchen.3 points

Had this guy eating acorns for 15 minutes five yds from stand. Doe came by with fawn and shot her at 6ish yards. Centered arrow with a nice X imprint on her heart.3 points

Been using up my venison in the freezer, and came up with this today. Take a section of backstrap, and split it in the middle enough to butterfly it out a bit (dont cut all the way through). Stuff the backstrap with jalapeno slices, diced onion, minced garlic and shredded cheddar jack cheese. Next, lay out slices of bacon into a sheet as long as your section of backstrap. Then lay the stuffed backstrap in the middle of the bacon. Sprinkle a bit of Montreal Seasoning on the bacon slices and wrap them around the backsrap until it is encased in the bacon. use toothpicks to hold it all together. Last, rub the outside of the bacon with a Memphis style BBQ rub. Heat up your smoker to 250 and smoke the wrapped backstrap for 3 hours using the wood of your choice. I used pecan and it turned out great.2 points

Awesome cars, but I guarantee that the price of those "free" oil changes are hidden somewhere in the price of the car….Nothing is free2 points

Yea I didn't want to deal with the heat and extra bugs that will be out. First deer that was shot this year on the land had a bunch of ticks so it must be crusing in that thick stuff often. I walked a bit deeper in and around found a dream run and a big rub. I can't wait to see what comes out of that trail.2 points

If you were looking for permission in September and October, you waited entirely too long. You should be doing that late spring, early summer.2 points

You'll be paying them $40 to crawl under it just as soon as a making a big Mac get's $15 an hour.2 points

So, that's technically 5 Bucks I have passed on as of this morning. I say technically, because about 7:15 am, a spiker came in and entertained me for almost an hour, munching acorns and rubbing up a sapling with his tiny rack. He came in to about 6 yards, where he got downwind of me and started to sniff that something was up. He spooked a bit but stayed around for another 20 minutes. This speaks to efficacy of food sources like Oak, keeping deer around long enough for multiple shot opportunities. At least I had some action this am. Wasn't expecting much as it was already warm at 5:30 this morning. Going to have a coffee and breakfast sandwich then sit till 2. It's already very warm out there however.2 points

Actually this may be a good time. There is no monetary pressure on him. Would be a good time to learn and just plain enjoy yourselves. Good year to teach him how to handle the fur and you wont pop a blood vessel if he messes up a hide.2 points

I use an " independent " mechanic , two bays ,two lifts no sign or advertising . $50 and hour and does not mark up the parts, which many places will mark up as much as 200% or more. $50 for a diagnostic check , no further labor charge if he can fix it in under 30 minutes. Honda timing belt and water pump $600 at dealer, same belt and a better pump from Don Was $400. I have not used a chain or dealer in years.2 points

Pretty clear here in WNY tonight. Been outside a few times watching satellites. Good night for it. They look like planes but higher up with no blinking lights. Pretty cool IMO2 points

actually, it's kinda self explanatory, it's a youth "deer hunt" and that's all..... Q: Is the special "Youth Firearms Deer Hunt" season just for deer or can the junior hunter take a bear too? A: No. The youth deer hunt is just for deer.2 points

Heat seeking arrows. I honesty wouldn't even try I'd find where they come in and out.2 points

It won't happen, because many of the banned rifles were simply moved out of NY State. As long as you aren't in possession of the rifle in NY, there is nothing they can do and you don't need to answer, nor should you answer, any of their questions. Simply ask if you are being detained or placed under arrest. The answer will be "No", and you can simply say "Good Day To You Then" and walk away.2 points

Congratulations on your firsr deer.Good story. One suggestion.......while details make for a good story..........specific location details will eventually make for a bad hunting spot. Even though its public land........loose lips sink ships. The more time you spend in the woods and the more hunting experience you gain........the more you will come to realize that your hunting spots should be treated like your ATM pin and your passwords....carefully guarded........not even your freinds need to know about them.2 points

So I had a line on a buck that been coming out daily around 5 with a group of doe...so anyway 5 oclock hit and sure enough a button buck came out about 40 yards from me...I watched and waited...he looked back toward woods and sure enough more were coming out 2 big big doe 3 more yearlings....one big doe stopped broadside about 20 25 yards out...I was getting ready to put a muzzy thru her when I heard what I thought was another deer coming out....I repositioned as it sounded like coming out the path right in front of stand....well it was a squirrel...by the time I shuffled back toward the field with the doe in it they were 10 yards out looking right toward me...so I froze after a min or so the deer must have caught me breathing or something as wind was right in my face and they took off about 100 yards out and stomped and wheezed and walked into the swamp....now I am a meat hunter and love opportunities to shoot bucks but I got greedy today....should have taken the big doe when I had the shot....all and all a great hunt and I'll try again wensday....maybe that buck will come out then Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk1 point

They're using people in the medical profession as well. I was recently asked by my doctor, "If you have guns in your home are they securely stored?" After a brief pause my response to him was, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" It took him a while to write something on his computer (that he wouldn't let me see) so I can only assume that I'm now in some database as a dreaded 'gun-owner'. I used to like the guy too.1 point
-
I'd still take him out, that's reason enough to go. Just don't worry about a big line, just a good one he will enjoy with you. Worry about the costs next year.1 point

I'm still trying to figure out how short a person has to be to sneak up on deer in a bean field. How do you do that? Maybe dress up in a tree costume and move very, very, slowly?1 point

Yes bow needs to be in a press to relieve pressure and split string. Then Tied in1 point
-
My peep is 5" above my nocking point. Easy way to check. Put it in the string between 4.5 and 5" above nock. Draw and anchor with eyes closed and open eyes. You should be looking through peep if it is the right height. If not, adjust from there.1 point
