110lbs dressed, my new stand down in a creek bottom has been great so far. seen deer every time I've been in it which is not what I'm used to. even saw too bucks sparring which is new for me too!!! gonna be even better once more leaves fall off and I can see in the field that's across the creek. really tough access to it though so getting in and out is a real pain but it's paying off. tried one of those disposable game glides to drag her out. definitely worked as advertised, wasn't exactly easy but was a lot easier!!! dragged her up a real steep hill and over logs by myself. feels good to have some venison in the freezer, no I can relax a little more and enjoy my treestand time even more6 points

I love that this thread has evolved from live in the stand to more of a hunting camp thread. It really shows how similar we all are in our goals and successes in the woods. With no better place to share it than with 100's of others who can make it feel like we've known each other for ages. Catching up on this thread whether at work or in the stand sure makes the time go by. Congrats Kludes on that doe! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

I found another reason to NOT regret my former crow hunting days!! Yesterday while I was having coffee with my friend, I noticed a couple crows harassing what at first glance a looked like a turkey buzzard out over his pasture. Quickly the big bird dove for the ground and I noticed that it most certainly wasn't a turkey buzzard but a immature bald eagle! It landed and the crows continued to dive bomb it for another 30 seconds or so while my buddy and I scrambled for optics. We figured we only had a few seconds before he/she took off so just got the binos. After a couple minutes I set up the always handy spotting scope and started snapping pics with my Iphone up to the eye piece. He hung around for probably 15 minutes, his head swiveling around looking up, terrified of the crows still lurking up in the pine trees. Finally I had to leave so then he flew away. Hopefully someday soon when he grows up I'll see him cruising the air currents with a crow in each talon.4 points

If someone came into your home , I would consider it different than someone in the woods stealing a tree stand . When someone takes your stuff , you feel violated and want to take some action but would be in trouble if you did . Seems like thieves have the upper hand . I had 2 pellet rifles taken from my garage in broad daylight . A lot of things go through your mind when a thief steals so close . It has gotten so bad that I keep the car doors locked when my car is in my driveway . I padlock my stands and trail cameras but if a thief wanted them bad enough , a hacksaw or bolt cutters would do the trick . Padlocks are a deterrent for not thief proof .3 points

Crows like to bomb anything big. Ravens often ignore bald eagles because they don't consider them dangerous. They do not like golden eagles because golden eagles eat them. This is a raven pulling a bald's tail: This is what happens to a raven if it hangs around goldens:3 points

I bought some property years ago and the cost of a survey was cost prohibitive. Not to mention it was a brush lot bordered by other thickets. Luckily it was a basic rectangle and I knew where the 4X corner old, survey points were. My hand-held Garmin GPS has a mapping option, so I simply established a route (lines) around all 4 sides of my property connecting the established boundary markers, Then if you follow those boundary routes with the same GPS, you should be within a reasonable distance from the actual survey line. BTW - Even a cheapo hand-held GPS is guaranteed to be accurate & repeatable to within +/- 10'.3 points

we broke ground on the camp addition 5/5/2014, working weekends, during vacation, a day here and there, missed most of july's, august's and all of january, february and most of march. we did some looong hours while there simply to try and take advantage of what little time I could be there to work on it. the only thing left is finishing the basement and that is going to have to wait, i would like a little free time to enjoy it but I have slacked on farm work there and need to spend some hours on the tractor mowing before it snows......and MAYBE even get to set in a tree for more than an hour here or there. its been a tight couple years as I did everything out of pocket,,,,turns out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are not so bad. :-) the original camp kitchen dining room, installed recessed lighting when I had part of the ceiling down to plumb in master bath on second floor. also installed heat runs in kitchen and downstairs bedroom, and put an electrical outlet where she wanted the microwave to set on the tea cart. living room with new curtains ( the lace ones are GONE) holy moly curtains are highway robbery! also built a bookcase one night when I had an extra hour to kill. grandkids bedrooms as they call them we still have a bunch of pictures and fish and duck mounts to find wall space for.2 points

Ya know I've tested a theory of mine a couple times now and the data doesn't lie...!!!! Your in your stand n those f'ers are everywhere , n you go sit at the bAse of a tree in the same spot n more often than not they stay high in the canopy ... The past two squirrel openers I've brought my climber in with the scoped 22.... Sure nough they're all over the ground n pick em off one by one !!!! Think I'm crazy!!! Try it !!!! Ahhhh so basically they shake up the store like a snow globe and then everything gets jumbled around so people need to spend more time looking for stuff thereby increasing the likelihood they will buy something not originally on their list. Very smart store policy wise for making more money. That said a total PITA for customers in a hurry Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk2 points

It happens. If it does turn out to be poached, and they catch the person, I hope the state makes an example of them. BTW, when you look at the city's penalty for getting caught hunting, its a $250 max fine. I spend that much on fertilizer for one food plot.2 points

The cops have most of my mug shots. Here's one from 4 years ago. Sorry for the sour puss, but this deer was hung up in the thickest brier patch I've ever seen. It was a difficult retrieval and a warm day.;-] 157# on the processor's scale.2 points

Just walk about 50 yards into the woods off the road and put scrapes down everywhere parallel to the road ,everyone will think they have the hot spot and conveniently located just off the road ,meanwhile you are deep in the woods by yourself.2 points

Public land is a trip....guys sitting 10 feet apart....You feel like a bullet is going to rip through your chest at any moment....I like to sit in spots where I think the deer will head when hunters go in at first light....when gun season opens and I hunt public land, scouting in my opinion is out the window2 points

the master bed and bath, the washer/dryer was never talked about when I drew up the blueprints and having them thrown in after things were built really threw a monkey wrench into my planned master bath. oh well I guess I will survive,,,,, I will say that washer is a 1 and DONE deal!!! when and if it dies the washer and dryer are going downstairs! I will build a laundry room addition before I carry another washer up all those stairs! or at least ask for help next time! I got bored one saturday evening and decided to build another built in dresser. this past friday I built the master bath/laundry cabinet, I built the washer/dryer cabinet a couple weeks ago when I put them in.2 points

Ya it can't hurt to stretch . Grampy I liked your post, not because you're all messed up but because of your dedication to the bow and hunting . I work as a firefighter awhile back my shoulders were so bad it hurt to hang my bunker coat on the side of the rig. That really made me think , should I be working( probably not at that point ) , how long can I hold out and so on. PT made a world of difference for now.... Getting old is not for the weak.2 points

I got a pair last year used them a few times (2-3) and I',m happy. Never got a chance to wear them for an all day day deer sit, but wore them on a 4 hour duck hunt in the freezing cold rain/sleet etc. I was very happy with them, my friend was ready to pack it in and I was happy and comfortable because my feet were warm, he left and I stayed and shot 2 more ducks !2 points

Regarding cameras, I will say that I have gotten very creative at camouflaging them. Most people just strap them to the side of a tree, and the damn things stick out like a sore thumb. I have set-ups that hide the cameras under stones and logs with it just looking up at the trails. I have heard of other guys who go in the other direction and put them way above eye level. I put one in a very thick apple tree that had a big rotted limb hanging down. By the time I got done, you really couldn't see the thing at all. That attachment strap is what really catches your eye. Anything you can do to hide that will help that camera blend into the background.2 points

This is easy... You CAN'T. You can maximize comfort from all the above tricks and ideas. However, it will come down to a point where it really is mind over matter. Tough it and Fight it all the way. We all get cold, I know I do anyway. A thermos full of hot beverage definitely helps.2 points

Wow!!! This really is not that confusing. He bought a bow tag, and a ml tag. He used these, one on a doe and one a buck. He now wants to hunt in another area(not wmu 3m) but he only has a tag that he can use in 3m. He wants to take his bow antler less tag off of his doe and replace it with his 3m dmp so that he can continue hunting on his bow antler less tag.2 points
-
He used the muzzleloader die only tag on doe instead of 3m doe tag, the he put buck on either sex tag, leaving him with only 3m doe tag if I follow what he is saying correctly, he's shit out of luck till nov 1 then he can buy any leftover doe tags for different area.... the message here is use the proper tags you want to the 1st time... now he's stuck hunting 3m till gun season for doe with bow unless he gets a tag signed over to him or can buy one that is unissued after nov 12 points

Yeah, I had a 32lbs climber that I bought when I was first starting out shooting from a stand. I got it cheap, I think like $80 because it was so damn heavy. I still have it, but I carry it in on opening day and carry it out when the season is over. It's just too damn heavy for daily carry-in and carry-out. I don't like to be all super sweaty from carrying it, and then extra tired from climbing it. Not a good way to start the hunting day, all sore and wet. When I'm not there it's padlocked to the base of the tree and covered in leaves. If someone steals it, well I got my use out of it and good luck carrying it out, hope you don't trip and break something I did have a bear chew up the seat a little, but it's still usable. Sometimes I'll relocate it a bit to a better lane, but it generally stays in the woods. I did wise up and buy a lightweight climber. It's not as comfortable for sure, but it's 14lbs and small, so I carry it everywhere no problem. Yeah it did cost me close to four bills, but it was worth it for the utility I got from it. I can't imagine lugging my old heavy stand to some of the prime spots I used my Lone Wolf in.1 point

I would say it all depends on the area But I can see why people in the area we hunt are reluctant to give permission to hunt their land1 point
-
It is funny because you would expect that here in NH if land is not posted it is legal to hunt. but we do have a lot of large traks of land here not posted1 point

dont forget when hunting in the am that your body has been lying in a warm bed with resting heartbeat for hours. then you creep into the stand which even tho slow is the first activity you had so far that day. by the time you get situated and your mind at ease since you are amped to be out you will stay kinda warm for at least 30 +minutes BUT slowly start to re-layer because after an hour your chill will set in and you dont want to be shivering at sunrise1 point
