Sitting in my stand at 7 I say to myself (wow this is the most beautiful morning yet this year). At 715 a buck comes crashing through chasing a few does. A couple grunts and he comes running to me from 150yrds away. He stops at 30 with perfect broadside shot and I miss. I grunt a couple times as he's running off and all of a sudden he comes back. Perfect broadside shot at 25 and I let her fly. Hit high on him, had to put another in him had a spine shot. Not my biggest but it is my first siting in 6weeks lol. Pics to follow12 points

Holy crap I just previewed my whole story and tried to correct a mispelled word and lost the whole thing, WTF!!!! OK trying again Had a deer come in to my right just after 8am this morning as the wind had died down for a short stint. He looked to be headed on a 4 wheeler trail that runs past my stand about 15 yards away but then dropped into the woods at over 40 yards away and was headed to the field. He gets to the field and peeks out and then heads into it and walks along the edge towards the crabapple tree where my trail camera is. Walks right past the cam ( Didnt take his picture either, POS camera) and freshens a scrape under the tree. He then proceeds through some Autumn Olive into a scrub field and into a thicket off to my left. I see him sniffing his way through the thicket and is going to come out towards me. He comes out and hits the 4 wheeler trail and turns to come straight by my stand. I draw as he goes behind a few trees and when he hits the 20 to 25 yard mark he stops quartering away slightly back towards the deep woods. I settle the pin and squeeze and as I watch my arrow headed to him, he turns hard right and I hit him in the hind leg. He immediately jumps up and then hits the ground in the middle of the trail. I am fumbling to nock another arrow and he tries to get up, dragging his backend and scampers into the thicket. I watch and listen and he does not go back into the scrub field so he only has one way out of the thicket. I sat close to 2 hours and had to check for blood and an arrow (which I was pretty sure was still in him) I got to the hit site and found some blood, not alot, and then another decent spot of blood. At that point I went back to my stand for another 1.5 hours or so. I know what is on the other side of this 60 yard long thicket, so I decided to head along the 4 wheeler trail that goes along the thicket. I could not get in there unless I was on all fours and wasnt leaving my pack and bow behind. When I got to the end of the thicket, it opens up into a mowed area around two ponds on the neighbors property. I decided to walk along the edge of the thicket to llok for blood or other sign that he made it out of there. I come across the run he took through the thicket and come out into the mowed area as there was decent blood. I scanned the open mowed area and the two ponds and did not see anything. So my eyes to the ground, I start to follow the blood trail out of the thicket. I take ten steps and up pops the buck in a 5x5 patch of Goldenrod I had just walked within 10 feet of as I entered the mowed area. He is standing with his hind end facing me and he is looking back over his shoulder at me but not moving. I come to full draw and start to slide to my left to try and get him broadside to me so I can finish him off. He doesnt like this and starts to walk away but is limping bad and I see his insides hanging out beneath him. I follow him to close the distance and he gets about 25 yards away and beds down in a briar patch with one opening. I get to within 15 yards and send an arrow into the opening at his vitals and the arrow hits the mark but does not penetrate as I thought it would. My focus changes and I see there were twigs and branches between us and that is why it did not penetrate good. When I hit him, he got up and walked 10 feet and jumped straight into the small upper pond and started to swim away from me. I nock another arrow and run to the levee between the two ponds to get into position to end this as he steps out on the other side. Well he makes it to the opposite side and will not get out of the water. I walk up to within 5 feet of him and send an arrow through both lungs and it was over. He kicked 2 times to get away from shore and turned over right smack dab in the middle of the pond. It was finally over for him and me. I had to sit for a second as I thought I was going to have a heartattack. I went and knocked on the neighbors door and asked him if the row boat was sea worthy but it leaks like a collander he said. At that point I headed home ( 3minutes away) and got my chest waders and my neighbors pool cleaning pole. My buddy came up to help fish him out and video me, all the while making smartass comments in the background. Only had to get wet up to my knees in the waders but that water was chilly. I got ahold of his antlers and pulled him onto the levee between the two ponds and here he is. An 8pt with a busted brow tine. And a side view Once we drug him up to the woods to field dress him I inspected the intial hit. When he turned hard right, I hit him through the left hind leg, slicing his underbelly, and hitting the inside thigh of his right hind leg. When he jumped and then fell straight to the ground, he had a compound fracture to his right rear leg and that is why he was dragging his back end as he went into the thicket. I was extremely lucky today to have recovered this deer and things could have gone much worse. I am happy that I got on the trail when I did so I could end the suffering and enjoy this beautiful deer. Fnally some good luck came my way. Here is one last view of him hanging in the shop before we process him.11 points

Shot this buck this morning - November 14th 2015. Best buck to date with any weapon for me. Story and more pics here: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/29563-zen-moments-with-zem-2015/10 points

Feel around in there for him with your bare arm. They're very soft you'll know when you grab him10 points

Got out to a natural ground blind I have been saving for a high wind day in November. Wind was out of the N-NW gusting, 35 to 45 mph. This south facing slope has been productive for me through the years, under these conditions. The deer bed near the top and can smell behind them and see below them. Bucks tend to cruise the top of the ridge and bust doe groups. Got in well before light. Then about 8, I see a small 4 point go up the hill about 50 yards away. I could also see another small buck cruising the ridge above me. Then just after 9 o'clock a group of does come right to me. A big doe stops at 15 yards and looks in my direction, while others are going by only feet away from me! She turns broadside and I shoot her with the crossbow. She runs down hill 40 yards or so and I celebrate my first crossbow kill!10 points

Its not much to look at and this pic is several years old but not much has changed. Will be headed down Friday evening after work. Eat some pizza and start playing cards. Might even have a few drinks to ensure a good nights rest. Good luck all.7 points

sorry for the sideways photo.....11/10/15, PSE Fang, Rage Broadhead, 20 yard shot....10 yard tracking job. Oh, and before I shot her, she was being chased around by a buck about 100 yards away....I stayed in stand for a little longer hoping he would follow, I finally got down and figured I would drag her a ways off before gutting with plans on hunting the area later on, as I was dragging I noticed the buck making his way towards me so I slowly walked back to my stand which was now at the base of the tree and waited....he walked to within 20 yards of me and went to her and stuck around offering me numerous perfect shots.......he was the biggest 4pt I have ever seen, but we have antler restrictions so all I could do was sit and watch...good show none the less.6 points

Not much to look at!??! My camp is a 10'x10' plywood box with one window and a Woodstove and a couch from 1973. Outhouse about 50 yards away, no running water, no electricity. Just me, the mice, and the stinkbugs. Also, a few years back some buddies and I befriended a local guy that was living out of his car. Told him he might as well crash in the cabin (box). He did for about 3 months until he hung himself in it. So I got his ghost in there too to keep me company.3 points

Howdy all, I got this 4 point in Madison County near Hamilton last Saturday 11/7. He was the 8th buck I saw that day and the first to offer me a clean broadside shot at 18 yards. I hit him about 4pm so by the time I got down and tracked him down it was getting late so hence the darker first picture.3 points

I've been hoping for a bear on the trail cam and finally got one! It isn't much of a bear but it's a BEAR!! Honestly I was going to start a post on here a couple weeks ago saying how much I wished I'd get a bear on the camera but never got around to it. I about crapped my pants when I hit PLAY............. I probably should have edited it so you don't have to suffer through dead space............. BEAR!!!!!.AVI2 points

I don't hunt westchester because I only use an xbow. But I'm confused because I always thought westchester 3S just had 1 season 10/1-12/31 and they get 1 buck tag and 1 either sex tag, so 2 bucks as long as they stay in westchester. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I've gotten real close to some big bucks around here while on horse back. At the time though, I was way more interested in the girl on the horse in front of me.2 points

I use to save all my tarsel glands from my bucks... like G-man says they work best away from your normal hunting area. It's like introducing a new buck to the mix.. the mature bucks definitely don't care for the new intruder and will come to investigate... grunting works well with tarsel.2 points

25y/o daughter will be in this ladder stand , so I'll be down this path a couple hundred yards in a hang on, would not be my first choice but it's the nearest one to her . This is her first time in a stand other than practicing . She only gets out a couple times a year and when she was in college missed some years completely , so,she gets the best stand and I stay nearby . My stand is a rather low hang on just into the woods off a green field that they cross, it's the stand I killed my bow buck out of this year and blew it on a monster . I have trimmed some trees to allow more rifle shots out into the field as well. Oh and I put that ladder stand up by myself !2 points

Portable climber packed back in about a mile in Allegany state park. My favorite spot took a huge 10 pt last yr and 2 other mountable 8 pts. over the past 30 yrs. With me will be my friends 16 yr old son , who's dad has to work .I'm more excited about Andrew getting a buck than getting one myself. Be safe2 points

Hope you find it today..........sounds like a fatal hit. Getting one with the bow is quite the accomplishment.2 points

Lightfields for me. They are accurate and devastating on deer….They seem to be a cross between modern sabots and old school slugs. Big honking piece of lead connected to a sabot wad..2 points

With bubbly blood, why wait until morning? Ain't ya got a flashlight? Around here the coyotes would feast on that thing in a matter of hours and in the morning you'd just find a crime scene.2 points

I guess it has something to do with upbringing. I was raised to recognize that we are a nation of laws and as such proper citizen behavior is to respect the law, obey the law, and to have respect for those that enforce the law. That's just the guidelines that I was raised with. I still believe in all that. I also believe that you can have a disagreement with a law and the proper response to that kid of disagreement is to follow the system to get that law changed. I was also raised to despise law breakers. With very few exceptions, that principle of my upbringing is still engrained too. I am a hard-line law and order proponent.2 points

Shot this buck at 8:45am this morning cruising a bedding area, popped out at 32yds and double lunged him. I've let a lot of young bucks pass and haven't shot a buck in a few years because I wanted a deer I'd be proud to tag. I don't have private land to hunt so to kill a good buck on public land makes it that much sweeter. Awesome day! Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk2 points
