  2. I'm not looking to make enemies in the sheriff's department. I can let bygones be bygones. I made myself heard and understood to both agencies and the case is closed. I started this thread to share what happened and open a little good old internet debate. www.HuntingTactical.com Modern Gear for Modern Hunters [email protected]

  3. Went out to some new dirt last sat with a guy I work with. Had an awesome hunt ! Called in 3 reds, quickly and 2 of them actually smashed into the fox pro ! I was not on the gun for the first but was able to get a shot on the second and the third never came within range of us... But it was awesome. I've had yotes and fox come right to the call before but never had them actually hit it so hard they knock it over, or leave teeth marks in my foxjack !

  5. I managed to find two of the old photographs that best shows the mane prior to being caped out. One is the only close-up and the second is as it hung shortly after taken. There were several pictures taken but nearly all others were positioned (frontal head shots) to show the rack.

  9. I posted this nice deadhead find back in December. I finally got around to skulling him out. He smelled so bad by that time that I almost sawed off his rack and called it a day. Instead I got to work with my hatchet and busted some teeth out trying to make quick work of separating the lower jaw. He was so rotten, the skin almost peeled itself off as soon as it hit the water revealing two sweet FANGS! I just so happened to have an antler that fit this skull perfectly too for a nice stand, lol

  16. Im sure thats true for most if not all setups. My first yote this year came running in from upwind. I hadn't really expected anything coming from that direction so he totally surprised me when he showed up. Shot with a 69 grain Nosler in the midsection. Put him down but got back up and ran straight towards me. Thought it was in attack mode. I cycled that bolt pretty quick as he ran to my left bout 15 yards and put another shot into him to put him down for good. Talk about an adrenaline rush!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. I finally got home from the Shot Show after a storm on the east coast delayed most flights across the country. First real night home so I decided to go hunt my dog. When I got home my wife says I just missed the SPCA. Turns out someone walking down the road (best I can figure from the details I've put together) doesn't understand that hunting hounds are not lazy fat house dogs. They're in shape and they reported me saying he was malnourished. There's my first problem. They didn't come over and talk to me or take the time to learn what is really going on. But they did the "right" thing and reported it. I can get over that until I figure out who it was. What really set me off is that come to find out they showed up with a Sheriff Deputy and before knocking on the door they trespassed to the far end of my yard to inspect my kennel. You can see from the road the dog was obviously not in it. It was night time and the lights in the house were on. There was no reason for them to conduct a warrant less search. Had I been home and they had knocked first I would have shown them the dog. My hound has a feeder. He as access to nearly unlimited food 24/7. He's just active and very fit. Now that they violated my fourth amendment I'm exercising my fifth and they'll never see him. What if the dog was being abused. They would have just thrown out their whole case because they couldn't stop and ask first! Hopefully they learn from all the formal complaints I'm going to file. Oh and neither of them ever identified themselves to my wife. They just knocked on the door and started asking questions. Luckily she had the sense not to open the door until she knew who at least the SPCA person was. The Deputy though never identified himself and my wife thought he was another SPCA officer. Talked to the supervisor at the Sheriff's station late the next afternoon. I tore into him (nice and professional like) about how his officer failed to identify himself to my wife. Then went onto explain how his officer would have been responsible for jeopardizing the case had my dog actually been abused. I made sure to explain to him how I knew the difference between criminal trespassing and technical trespassing (which is what the officer did). Said I would have been nice and assisted in the investigation but now that they violated my fourth amendment I was going to exercise my fifth. Now they can't see the dog without a warrant so don't bother coming back. And I have pictures of both their foot prints in the snow. He said he had to wait a couple of days for the deputy to go back on duty but he was calling the SPCA officer immediately to get their side of the story. I said that's fine but don't come back without a warrant. Know your rights and don't give into the intimidation of law enforcement. Also obey the law and respect your animals.

  25. I have six days head start on ya, TF.. I'll be hunting in Ontario on April 25th. For several years I hunted Kentucky, which opens about mid April.. Unfortunately, my honeyhole out there was leased out .. It was a sad loss...Without a doubt it was the best gobbler hunting I have ever experienced.. However, I still hunt every year NY, PA and Ontario, and since I am slowing down in my old age that's enough for me.

I don't believe they are a right wing news source. If there is better video and audio of the incident then why would authorities only release the helicopter video be released. It creates more questions then answers. Assuming they were justified in this shooting either release all of the video you can or you shouldn't have released any.

  32. Well, maybe I'll be able to tell you in a couple weeks. But the 17 mag in general is def capable of doing work on a song dog, and chucks for sure. I hear it's a 500 yrd gun all day long. I usually shoot dogs >100 and chucks out to 300ish anyways

  33. dbh, thanks for the feed back, I'm always looking for other opinions, For the most part were using the tops long the edges but mainly when were cutting close to the edges. When were cutting more towards the center its been quicker to pile and burn vs dragging to the edge. I should have taking a picture on the one pinch point I worked around today, its loaded with brush and some trees along the edge I was able to hinge some away from the plot and into the point. I'm thinking once we get this cleared and dozed then ill assess the edges. My goal is to make the west side completely blocked to access ( will have a stand on the west pinch point). I'm thinking ill have to hinge some of the edges. As far as bedding (phase two of project) on the south end of the plot were going to create an 8 acre bedding area by hinge cutting the whole area and planting clumps of pines.

  36. No…If there is a report of animal abuse in progress, then time is essential. If they wait too long to act, the animal may suffer or die. It takes a long time to draw up a search warrant and then find a judge to sign it. Im not taking sides, just telling you how it is. Even though it sounds crazy, its the same thing as someone reporting that there is a person unconscious, behind the bushes, and out of sight, in your back yard. They won't wait for your permission or a search warrant to go onto your property to check.

  40. I did a lot of research and they have come along way, I saved about 5 oz to my other aluminum uppers. I have a bunch of plastic pistols and they hold up fine. It's not my only ar and will never be a high round count gun but for what I use it for its perfect.

  42. I know they have come a long way, but I would do your research on a poly lower... They are cheaper but not much lighter, and if you are going to use your AR in the field, look into forged / aluminum.

  43. EspressoBuzz, you cannot speak rationally to most here, the are blinded by their hatred of the government and their paranoid delusions feed their fears that the government won't stop until either everyone is either dead or enslaved. Rational conservation does not work with these people because their hatred does not allow for them to accept any views/ideas that do not further their hate filled anti-government agendas.
