Every year, I just mark the first two weeks in November, for the best rutting days of the season. Those two weeks are when most bucks are on their feet searching for or breeding the does. Same time frame every year. Will rutting activity take place before and after this time? Absolutely! That's why you spend as much time as you can, on stand, during all of deer season!7 points

I would like to share some of my mounts. a lot of the photos are taken at two different Taxidermy shop, they photo most of my stuff.6 points

No doubt Tom has killed animals in pens in plenty of places. That wasn't and isn't the question. The question was about 4 mule deer that were posted under the title of "my mounts" When I recognized them from pictures i seen on Monster Mulies something didn't add up. That was why I inquired with the Taxidermist. It was possible tom killed them or at least owned the mounts. However in my mind it didn't seem to fit the MO so to speak. Coupled with the fact that he changed quotes on another thread, (jokingly I am sure he will claim) it didn't seem above the guy making a false claim or two. Also quite honestly you have to wonder about the add he placed on here for the high fence "hunt". He had all kinds of stories about other people hunting on the place, wounded Marines, sick children..ect ect . Then he back peddles and says he isn't affiliated with the place? All this in the first day or so this guy joins the forum. Next thing that's odd is why is a guy from Utah joining here anyway? Something is odd on this one. Mods can do what they want, I suggest they look over the other thread in the guide outfitter area. There is some things in there that aren't befitting of a new member, or any member for that matter. I admit to a couple words or two that weren't befitting and will answer for them if necessary . For my part in both threads I am done with this.5 points

I know that many of you , like Growie, make your own pickles, but how about store bought pickles available to all of us? Having said that, my VERY favorite dill pickles are BICK's Garlic Whole Dills, made by Smuckers of Canada. I cannot find a source here in the US, so I stock up when I go up to hunt gobblers every spring. They are a fairly big pickle, very crunchy and delisheous. Garlicky and not too vinegary. My current favorite that is locally available is Claussen Whole Dills...They are SUPER crunchy, although I'd like to see them back off on the allspice a little. They are kept refrigerated at all times, so you'll find them in the meat case, or the produce area, or perhaps the dairy case.4 points

I got one in the mail courtesy of Lawdwaz today.. It has a great sound and it's good and LOUD, just like I like them. It is IMMEDIATELY replacing the Quaker Boy that I have carried for years.. Besides that, it's cool looking ( all wood) and more compact than I expected. Now I just have to dig a lanyard out of my STUFF..I have 4 or 5 of them buried SOMEWHERE..<<grin>>..4 points

Typically nuisance permits require a damage assessment at some point. lodging a complaint may make them reevaluate it. Then again it may be ignored, but not contacting them assures nothing will be done.2 points

I understand your frustrations. You should contact your local DEC office and express it to them. Maybe they'll issue them less permits. You never know. At least you can say you tried something.2 points

Jeremiah Johnson and The Outlaw Josey Wales, are two of my all time favorites! Have watched them both a bunch of times. Some movies, you never get tired of seeing!2 points

I have to agree with Shawn here. Also barrel length has more to do with muzzle blast than the load that is used. For instance, the 21" barrel on my turkey gun with a standard 2 3/4" load may very well make more noise than a 3" magnum load out of a 28" or 30" barrel. Weather conditions make a lot of difference, also as does the direction the shot is fired in. My buddy in Ontario has shot more than one bird within a fairly short distance of me with his 3 1/2" 12 gauge, and I barely heard the shot or perhaps didn't hear it at all2 points

Sounds like their rule to control it how they want. Which can also be the price of admission. would love to find another spot to do this. Nice having that little venison boost going into the hunting camp season. Takes the pressure off...lol2 points

Last year i analyzed the last 5 or so year history of trail cam photos taken over a mock scrape that i open up each year (same spot) and included activity from 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 yr. old bucks (both day and night activity) and the vast majority of bucks peeing over their hocks and using the licking branch was from 11/6 to 11/10. Attached photo is of 6pt. shot on 11/7/15 with crossbow mere feet from that mock scrape. I believe there is a pattern to the rut each year, in this instance it tooks years of photos taken at a fixed loaction on my property to narrow down a time window to hunt that works for me.2 points

I was wondering about this. I spooked a trio today while I as out stomping the brush for rabbits. They must have been laying down on the back side of a fallen tree basking in the sun. I kicked one fallen tree that was resting on another and they took off like missiles. The big male up front had a full rack. I thought they normally fell off by now. EDIT: Also saw a tiny fox (no bigger than my wife's cat) and a pair of beautiful snow owls.2 points

As stated above, first two weeks of November are almost always prime seeking. Later on you may get close to a hot doe during the actual breeding phase and have the hunt of your life but that seeking phase in my opinion is your best hunting. Everyone's opinion actually lol1 point

it only goes to your page because you're logged in. There is no-way to link to someone's account. It would just take us all to the section as either a guest or our own page. all i see is some fishing stuff http://www.amazon.com/Hunting-Fishing-Gear-Equipment/b?ie=UTF8&node=7068130111 point

The permits I have used are property based, not field based. So as long as you are on the listed property you can use tree stands, blinds and rifles (even in shotgun only areas). Scent isn't as big of a deal at 200+yards. We filled most of them right at dusk.1 point

I think Cuomo will do anything to further his career. This guy mentally or not killed innocent people, and treated as a murder. Once someone kills I don't care what caused them to do it, or what they used to do it. The courts have to stop the sympathy for criminals BS. You take a life Nuts or not same sentence for all. Stop the plea bargains and deals. Life without parole or death doesn't matter to me.1 point

Great let's talk mule deer!! As soon as I seen the pictures I recognized them. It didn't take much digging to find out who did world class mounts like that. So I sent an email, funny things. So easy to communicate. Any way I wanted to be sure, I am pretty reasonable as most of you all know. I also like to give people the benefit of doubt.1 point

I truly believe that the vast majority of mismanagement will keep on going until the day that NY has a real fish and game department, and not just a division of DEC. The DEC wears far too many hats. Like the old saying goes, jack of all trades, master of none. Just one thing Id like to point out, PA does not have a bounty on coyotes.1 point

Let's see...rabbit, squirrel, grouse, pheasant and crow would be legal too ...Somebody might have shot at a target or perhaps was just checking his gun.. NAAAAAW..Poachers, no doubt..1 point
