  1. Just picked up son's first mount from Fish and Wildlife Unlimited in Oakdale, NY. This guy had a big body but a small 6pt rack. Nevertheless being his first I had to have it mounted. Took about 3.2 months from drop off in November to pick up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk

  2. I took down my Rebel flag (which you can't buy on e-bay any more) and peeled the NRA sticker off the front door. I disconnected my home alarm system and quit the candy-ass Neighborhood Watch. I bought two Pakistani flags and put one at each corner of the front yard. Then I purchase the black flag of ISIS (which you CAN buy on e-bay) and put it in the CENTER of the yard. Now, the local police, sheriff, FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security, Secret Service and other agencies are all watching my house 24/7. I've NEVER felt safer and I'm saving $69.95 a month that ADT charged me. Plus, I bought burkas for my family when we shop or travel. Everyone moves out of way and security can't pat us down. Safe at last – only in USA!

  3. In the process of making a "pot" call display rack for my computer room/office. Problem is I caught a dandy of a cold and feel like crap right now. So I hope to continue with this latest piece when I feel better. Here is a picture of that project in it's early stages. Will post a pic after it's on the wall and stocked with calls!!! LOL....

  4. The spring time is such a great time of the year. Second only to fall in my mind.......... One of my favorite "signs" of spring is the song and sight of the male Northern Cardinal. When I hear them I'll stop what I'm doing and search way up high in the barren tree tops for the bright red plumage of the great bird. I had a neighbor who is deceased now, that would call to the cardinals and the seemed to respond in kind. I started doing it years ago and have some fun with them............my current neighbors think (and rightly so) I'm nuts. http://birdsandblooms.com/blog/video-the-cardinals-song/ Play this little clip and enjoy what others have put together about the bird.

  7. I can't see a manufacturer putting the same exact numbers on the box and shipping the lower quality to big box stores and then shipping the better stuff to the more "specialized" dealers. It would be an inventory nightmare for them. If the model or skew numbers were different, but the item "looks" exactly the same, I would believe it. In today's world, everything is about lots, tracking, and QC. And without some way of identifying what came out of where and when, the manufacturers may just as well shoot themselves in the foot. 8. I was talking with the guys at work and remembered seeing the show Austin City Limits one night on PBS for the first time. I was a sophomore in high school. The band was Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble 1989. I just watched it again tonight on YouTube. What an incredible guitar player he was. Just wanted to share my trip down memory lane. Link is below. Enjoy. https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=LyVI25osbkk

  17. . Not too much of a story. I went to a few gun shops around me in rockland and no one had what I wanted... I was being a little picky as I wanted WWII serial numbers. The only ones I found down here were from Korea. I wound up taking a drive up to hopewell junction to collector rifle and amo. He had 3 on the racks and after inspecting all of them I chose this one. All the parts are Springfield armory the receiver dates to February 44 so pre d day. The barrel is newer dated 65.. The gun functions beautifully. I also picked up two bandoliers of Greek m2 ball. I'm seriously thinking of taking it out hunting next season. On nice clear days of course Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Had 2 toms strutting this Am. We have 14 birds total, 2 toms, 4 bearded hens, 1 with a leg band & the rest hens. Two days ago we had 5 deer, the 14 turkeys, & about 100 red wing blk. birds & a couple cardinals in the yard. My sister was here at the time & said it's like a zoo around here. Still on robins!

  20. Congrats to your son on his first buck and that is a fine looking mount. I always regretted not getting my first one mounted, a busted up 7-point. I didn't have the cash to do it back when I was still in school and my dad was not all that into hunting. He is a skilled woodworker and he made me a nice little plaque to attach the antlers to. Many years later, my friend had large buck mounted by a taxidermist who did a poor job, using a form that was much too small and looked way out of proportion with the huge antlers. A few seasons later, he killed another large-bodied buck with a smaller rack. This time, he took that, and the larger racked mount to another taxidermist. That guy made him a great shoulder mount from the fresh cape and the big antlers, and a European mount from the smaller antlers and the fresh skull. I ended up with the left-over mounted cape, to which I attached my first buck's rack. My dad made me a beautiful walnut plaque for the back, and it turned out pretty good. There is nothing wrong having shoulder mounts made from smaller antlered deer. To me, it is more about "special" antlers than it is big antlers. Obviously the first one is special, probably more so than the one with the largest "score". For me, the first one with a bow was worthy (coincidentally another 7-point), as was the one with the most points, and the first one at camp. It is important that the cape/form size be in proportion to the antlers and your son's buck looks just right in that respect.

  23. The Cornell U. website is a great place for bird sounds. I've had it bookmarked for several years now and I use it a lot to figure out the feathered critters. I have a Mockingbird that comes through every spring. Duck quacks and seagull screeches are his/her forte, and it's kinda' weird when you hear them from the treetops. Keeps me amused while I'm grilling.

  24. TVs are notorious for this. Big Box stores actually set the targets for orders with the suppliers/manufacturer. Build X for Y and we're ordering 1,000,000 units. If you don't, we're no longer selling your products. This is part of the reason why Rubbermaid folded and ultimately ended up restarting overseas. Wal-Mart became too large of a supplier for them from a % of revenue. Wal-Mart then came in and informed them of the above. Rubbermaid couldn't financially make that happen thus they folded up shop in Ohio. It is very different from the negotiating power when both sides used to be more balanced. It is also reason why nearly every major company with a shelf presence in Wal-Mart has offices in Bentonville, AR.

  26. I have to agree with Wolc123, drawing a bow is the best exercise. Staying in shape and using the same muscles you use for drawing is very important. I notice many guys who have issues drawing their bow late season stopped practicing. Even during the season I try to practice at least 2 times a week and usually 3 times as a standard minimum. As some on here know I have had some issues with my neck. Keeping in shape, staying off the dam computer and practicing along with working those muscles will keep your back and arms ready. Sit-ups for a good core, back and arm work out to help the draw. After doing a few months of physical therapy I though the bow poundage was lowered but it was just because my back was in better shape! I start my draw with the front arm extended but not locked and keep the draw hand close to my body while going to full draw. I would keep your elbow close to your body and raise it as you come to full draw. If you struggle to get to full draw you need to work out your back and arms more so you do not cause damage to your shoulders. (Or low the poundage.) Typically this is why guys hurt their shoulder because they are out of practice and have not drawn the bow in over 2 weeks or more. ok time to hit the range!

  27. Exercises are probably the most important thing you can do. I have kept two bows around for quite a few years. I usually start drawing the older one about 6 months before hunting season. I start with about 10 reps right hand, and left to maintain symmetry (I only shoot right). I do that every other day or so, and a month prior to hunting season, I am usually up to about 40 reps. My older compound has a slightly lighter peak draw weight but significantly less let-off than the newer one that I use for hunting. By the time hunting season rolls around, pulling and shooting the new one is a piece of cake. I start shooting that one on the range about a month before hunting, and scale back the exercise reps a bit. I do not stop the exercises when hunting season begins, nor do I stop the range work with the bow. Using a real bow to condition your shoulders is the most effective way to target the right muscles. An old bow will save wear and tear on your hunting bow and are easy to find cheap at garage sales and such, if you don't already have one. Another good idea when you are out hunting in the cold is to stretch your arms on occasion, just be sure to scan the area carefully first so you don't end up spooking a deer while doing it. Finally, you can switch to a crossbow when that gets legal at the end of the season. Not only will can that completely eliminate shoulder issues but it does that at just the right time, in the colder part of the season, when shoulder injuries are more likely. As far as the proper way to draw a bow, I have always locked the opposite elbow before drawing. If you only do this right handed, you are asking for shoulder, spine, and neck issues, as your muscles will develop asymmetrically. Getting into shape, alternating with left and right draws can help minimize that. Obviously you don't want to "dry-fire" your bow during these exercise draws. That means you more than double the workout on every draw, as the restrained limb extensions during the controlled release build up your shoulders more effectively than the compressions during the draw. Thanks for the reminder as it is almost time for me to get the old bow out and get to work.

  30. Look for "Live at the El Mocambo". A Toronto show in the mid 1980's. I have a VHS version but I've found it on youtube before. Glassy-eyed stoners, but they were making incredible music. ;-]

  31. I was stuck in traffic leaving the Alpine Valley amphitheater just outside of East Troy Wisconsin the night that he died. A good friend and I drove from Buffalo to see that show featuring Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and SRV. The radio in my truck was broken and we didn't find out about his death until we got back to Buffalo the next day. If I had looked in my rear-view mirror I might have seen the helicopter crash. A terrible end for a musical genius. I saw his show at The Red Creek in Rochester in the early-mid 1980's before anyone outside of Texas knew who he was. There were maybe 30 people in the place so I got a chance to drink a few shots with him and chat between sets. He was a very soft-spoken and humble man.

  32. Actually, you're not too far off. Many of the top name brands water test their fixtures before they leave the factory. It's not uncommon to open up a brand new toilet or faucet and have it dripping with water. Believe it or not, there is some serious testing that goes on behind the scenes at the factories as well. A lot of that spills over into the sales reps pitch to sell the latest and greatest to suppliers. I'm sure everyone has seen the fully operational "cut away engines" before. They do the same thing with the chitters. You tube it, and prepare to see all your doubts go down the drain, lol

  35. I think you can get decent stuff at Home Depot, just have to get the better stuff...don't think you can expect much from a $25 fixture......as far as the Lawn equipment, doubt there's many full time landscapers or farmers buying stuff there, but it's perfect for the average homeowner.

  36. I think I've worked for darn near every plumbing company in WNY over the 25 years or so. Some of the bigger places had enough room to stock warehouses full of their own fixtures, while the smaller guys bought a few at a time from a supply house, or job to job from the Depot. I've NEVER seen a difference after handling a gazillion different models no matter where they came from. A Price Phister, or American Standard, or Glacier Bay, is always gonna be a piece of crap no matter where you buy it and wont compare to a reputable brand in material, function, and construction. Can't blame the supply house (or box store) for quality on the manufacturers end.
