Well after years of trying to get some birds to stock and not hunt , my neighbor and I got 140 phesant last year, we released them around our properties and the neighbors property. A few were taken in youth hunt and a few more by our 80 year old neighbor. I'm sure. Few more were taken of adjoining land. This morning hearing the cackle of a cock at the end of my driveway, and then this afternoon seeing a nice cock and a few hens in neighbors crp field while looking for sheds. For the 1st time I am very optimistic that we may actually have some nesting take place this year. We have cooperatively worked on habitat, hedgerows, standing crp fields, standing corn, thermal cover,in the hope we could re establish some phesant that could then stand some limited hunting pressure.. The project will continue.. I wish nys would take this approach rather than put and take..7 points

My wife, 14 yr old daughter, and I all took the required Bow Hunter Education course this past weekend, at the Watertown Sportsman's Club. We learned an awful lot, and we had fun doing it, and I want to recognize Mark, Isaac, Herb, Brent, Billy, and Emily for doing an outstanding job and devoting their time for our benefit. It is much appreciated.4 points

Well, me and the family were finally able to get on top of the morels. It's been a tough season so far. All of the properties that I have permission to be on that have the right habitat for whatever reason, didn't have any morels. So after our Disney trip, we went back and checked our patch and finally, found some. I think when the soil warms up more we're really going to have a huge flush! They say the hardest part of turkey hunting is putting 2 feet on the floor, but you have to get out of the tub and dry off!3 points

I was just out driving around looking for turkeys...pulled the truck over at one spot to glass a woodline and instantly spotted bone sticking up in the air!!! It was a soggy 200 yd walk in my sneakers to recover it...3 points

Last archery season we tried something different, we hunted on public land for the first time and it paid off. Deer Hunting Video>> https://youtu.be/eceVxmVZ3TM2 points

I have only been able to really scout an area about 4 times, and it was looking bleak at best. I took a drive this morning just to check a few of the open areas and small fields near the land. I actually saw a few turkey entering the woods heading towards a small swamp. It didn't get my heart racing as I only saw 3, but it gave a bit of hope to an area I was ready to give up on. At least I know there are a few in there now for sure. Just hoping there's a tom in the mix.2 points

With the right habitat and the right pheasants I believe it very possible to have a sustaining huntable population of pheasants. The next best thing to releasing wild trapped birds is hatching pheasant eggs with game hens, they are hens from the old time fighting cocks. You have to have a large flight pen and let the hens raise the chicks naturally with as little human interaction as possible. The game hens will teach those pheasant chicks how to find food and avoid danger. When released as young adults they will be much better prepared to survive than a regular pen raised pheasant. I agree thick brushy hedge rows, tall standing grasses in fall, spruce for thermal cover ( it gets cold here) smaller fields cut up by hedges. And standing fields of corn, and cereal grain all help. Removing and keeping predators in check is also very important.2 points

Well the one rule is you have to be 65 to hunt out of the hot tub... it holds 8 people, and yes I love living in the country even with the 70 mile drive into work I'd never give it up..2 points

Trump has a lot of old money DC politician's shaking. They are worried to the point they are flocking around Cruz but hoping for Kasich. I keep hearing Trump is not Qualified to be President, but Obama Was! Trump is by far more qualified than Obama. Now like I said before I didn't start out a trump supporter, but he is a hell of a lot better than what we have now. I don't want to live in a Hilary lead America, its bad enough waking to Obamas America. To all that hate Trump think about the alterative. We have to stop the Liberal agenda.2 points

In most ways you're exactly right jrm. Professional politicians have no right to run our country. They're not suited for the job and they generally have no interest beyond their personal bank accounts. That's why they've become professional politicians. It's easy money if you know the game. Serving your country was always intended to be a personal hardship, undertaken for patriotic reasons. The days of having to ride for several days in a horse-drawn coach to get to Philadelphia may be gone, but a stick-in-the-eye rabble-rouser is exactly what we need to shake some sense into the current establishment.2 points

Don't sweat it; where there's hens, there will be a Tom at some point. If you locate a Tom now, who knows where he'll be in 2+ weeks? Yea, riding around and glassing CAN'T hurt but if you have an area where birds have been spotted in the past, it's always worth a hunt. You NEVER know if and when a gobbler will show up.2 points

That seem to be the problem with most of America... they simply don't pay attention. Since the election is getting much press, take the time to listen to all sides... Even bernie has made some good points, his ideas to fix them are a blunder but he does recognize some of the problems. Donald and Ted also point out why we are going I the wrong direction. The only one who seems to be spinning in circles is Hillary, is and willing to say what ever the crowd came to here, it tone and dialogue. Now with regards to Barack... He has never voiced his agenda, the only thing we can make judgment on are his actions. And let's face it anything is possible with this president. So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss people throwing out ideas that may seem like they came from under the tin foil hat..Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk2 points

So all the lefties are mindless zombies. And all the righties are jack-arses who get their information from the "only" news source that is always wrong. That doesn't leave anyone who is intelligent enough to run for office or vote for a candidate. We are apparently ALL idiots who deserve to be fleeced by the idiots in charge. When everyone is right 100% of the time and everyone else is wrong 100% of the time, its no wonder nothing gets done. While we are arguing over who is the "stupider" candidate (or party, or voter) the pols are robbing us blind and laughing all the way to the bank. There are no political sides of the aisle. They are in their together. The real two party system is the political ruling class on one side, and the peasants (us) on the other. Frankly, just about all of the pols should be in jail.2 points

That's the other thread, not this one. If the right wing is paranoid, the Left wing is in denial. I'm not siding with either of them. But I'm not gonna be taken by surprise either. BTW it's Martial Law, not Marshal Law.2 points

For those who are not aware Hornady has a free online ballistic calculator. It is a nice useful tool for the handloader as it will show pretty much how a load will perform ballistically at a multitude of ranges. http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-resource/ballistics-calculator To give an idea on how it works below is a sheet I worked up using data from a load for my 220 Swift. You fill in the description which in this case was "22 cal" Put in the ballistic coefficient for the bullet being loaded which was .229 Bullet weight 52 grs Put in your sight in distance which in this particular case is 250 yds Finally the feet per second you are getting at the muzzle, my 220 hits just over 3900 fpson my chronograph Then hit calculate fro your data From here you can make a little cheat sheet by clicking on cheet sheet. It can be printed out and saved, some folks will have them in the ammo box and others will tape them to the stocks of their rifle.1 point

I watched him doing this for a half hour this morning. He was here a few days ago doing the same thing. At first I thought he was picking bugs off of it. Later on today he came back and was bouncing off the bumper for another hour, lol What a bird brain...1 point

If I recall correctly the same lawyer took up a case for the Montana resident population of Wooly Mammoths during that global warming period as well. Had a favorable judgement as well but the tax base wasn't there to pay the restitution.1 point
