  1. Had to share my excitement. Ordered exactly what I wanted from black widow and she shoots as good as she looks. So happy with it. The deer should be afraid, very afraid. Lol And not too shabby for a 58" hunting bow:

  8. not bears, but still neat. this family became quite tame in and around camp.. As i ran the tiller, mower or brush hog or anything theyd come out and just watch me everytime. when i got off they'd actually walk to within 20' or so.. until people started shooting them on drive bys

  9. This picture is from 3-4 years ago and is poor flip-phone quality. We had been seeing a Bear and her three cubs for about a year. Mommy kicked her cubs loose (I think it was mid-May) in the woods behind our house. They got pretty interested in our chicken coop until I yelled at them to go play somewhere else. There is a third cub behind the coop when the pic was taken. The two ran off quickly, but the third just scrambled about 150 yds back. We heard it crying and bawling in those woods for a day and a half. Poor thing missed it's Mommy. I felt sad for him or her. It did move off by late the next day. I'm glad I over-built the coop and pen!

  12. I would think you're losing a lot of the neck area to aim at as well, especially at close range......shoot high and he gets a full load in the back and shoot low and either hit breast or miss completely and get ground, sitting at their level gives you a little leeway as far as that goes.

  13. I once had a bear with two cubs climb down out of a tree and start galloping right towards me and a friend. She didn't know we were there until she got to about 20 yards away and we started making noise and yelling. She stopped, stood up and I thought o boy this is it. She got back down on all fours, turned and went quickly in the opposite direction. Good thing we alerted her before she passed us with her cubs on the other side of us. This was about 15 years ago while geocaching at the Wesley Hill nature preserve near Cummings nature center.

  16. Went out for a scout in the refuge on Saturday , only one bird gobbling , but boy he was a talker , saw him fly down alone a couple hundred yds off , worked his way right past me a 20 yds ... Heard two shots a little ways away n he gobbled at both ... must have gobbled 50 or so times... Just a lonely two year old ... Too bad my permit for that land is second half of season ... 18. I think turkey are very aware with everything going on above them, sometimes more-so than what's happening down on the ground at their level. I was watching some birds out in the field the other day when a vulture shadow suddenly appeared to be chasing them to the edge of the woods. Those birds had their eyes glued to the sky until they identified it as harmless and made their way back into the open. From a hunting point of view. I've been picked off in a stand by MANY fall turkey while bow hunting. Spring turkey hunting from a stand just doesn't appeal to me in the least. I'd rather have them gobblin' and spittin' in my face no matter how much harder it is to remain motionless and hidden.

  20. Nada. Youth hunting last Saturday, no action. Sunday we had 2 birds at 200 yards displaying for 45 minutes but couldn't coax them in any closer. Tipped over 13 birds from my tree. Hoping for the best. Perhaps a double for daughter and I. That's my hunting fantasy at least. I'd give anything for that double though

  23. I've had a couple of small ones forever on my peripheral vision, but developed a larger one in my direct vision about 2 years ago. Eye Doc in late 2014 said there wasn't much that could be done with them, and that they were barely noticeable to her. it has gotten worse so I'll bring it up at my checkup next month. At least it's in my left eye so it doesn't bug me looking thorough a scope. But it's annoying while driving on a sunny day with a blue sky background.

  28. Not sure if anyone lives or travels Route 21 South thru Wayland, NY and Loon Lake area, But i saw a Mother bear and her cubs last night before dark, I believe there were (4) cubs, and they were not much bigger than the size of a bowling ball. I did not stay long for the road had guard rails and no where to park, and kind of dangerous section of road. The bears were about a 1/2 mi. south of Loon lake on Rte 21. She was also seen by a customer of ours right there in the same area, early yesterday morning. I dont know much about mother bears with cubs and how far they travel when they are that young. But i would imagine they wont go too far too fast. Wish i had a camera on me for some photos, I would have had some great ones. But for anyone in that area, keep your eyes open, id imagine she wont be too far away from there. Its my daily route for traveling to and from work. Wish i had a camera on me for some photos, I would have had some great ones. Just thought it was super cool, and had to share for anyone in that area. And to remind myself and anyone else to bring a camera or bino's, you never know lol.

  29. I'll roost sat evening. Though I'm sure they will be in their normal roost areas. I can narrow it down to 50 yards or so roosting the night before instead of 100 to 150 yards.

  30. awesome.... I've tried looking for them used for a couple years. finally gave up. they seemed to hold their value more than I was willing to pay. might as well have bought a new one. shot multiple bows from them and seems along side any production bow they really spit the arrows out in a hurry for a trad bow. unless a widow is tuned way out of its sweet spot for brace height then they're deathly silent too. worth the money if you're willing to spend that much as are many other custom bows. almost feel like Pygmy looking at a classic high grade gun. thing's a gorgeous work of art. like the limbs. seems like most windows widows! I've seen are just black.

  44. I don't think there is a perfect blind. They all have good and bad. I like my Big Mike Barronett because of the size. The good = I can stand up in it and shoot my bow. The bad - noisy zippers. My Ameristep is a smaller blind that has great camo (realtree) and noisy zippers. My Primos Double Wide blind is made out of durable no glare fabric but I feel the windows are a bit low, I have a hard time seeing out of it. I use all my blinds for different locations where the camo works best. I like the Big Mikes size. It's nice to be able to stand up and stretch.

  45. Thought I'd give a little recap of yesterday's hunt... Ethan and I got got to our ambush spot around 5:10 after a nightmarish half mile walk through a soggy plowed cornfield. I popped a groundblind up and we waited to hear our first gobble. From the trailcam pics and several years of hunting this spot (we've killed 3 opening morning youth birds here by 6:30 three years running), I knew the two longbeards that we were after should be roosting close. I was just hoping that they would be talkative in the crappy weather. About 5:45 I hit the crowcall and nothing. A few minutes later I scratched out a few soft yelps and...GOBBBLEEEE...GOBBBLEEEE...there they were only 75 yds above us!!! Over the next 35-40 minutes they gobbled ridiculously at everything. We sat there impatiently waiting for flydown...finally around 6:25 they hit the ground. I thought it would be another done deal in a minute or two. WRONG!!! They stayed strutting and gobbling about 80 yds above us around a bend in the logging road for the next half hour but won't come down to meet us. After not hearing a gobble for 20 minutes or so, I snuck out of the blind and walked up the trail calling, but was greeted with silence. I had a feeling they had hens the entire time. The back of the farm is always good too so we left our blind/dekes and went to doing a little running and gunning. Finally, we got to where I thought we should get into some action and BINGO...a gobble rips on the hillside below us only 75-80 yds away. We quickly set up and I went to work on the Halloran slate and one gobbler turned into three!!! A few minutes into my calling, a hen starts yelping below...I call to her and her she comes up the hill looking for the new hen. She went past us calling the whole time and I thought the boys would be right behind her. Wrong again...she went on up the woods and they stayed put. I tried everything that I could thing off to get them to advance...soft calling, loud calling, fighting purrs and even gobbled at them. They would answer everything but weren't budging. With a squirmy 13 year old sitting next to me, I knew that playing the silent game and trying to wait them out was not an option. I decided to back up the train a ways and descend down the hill to their level and try a new set up. Once we were got down to the bottom I called and they responded from the same spot. We quickly closed the distance and setup again. The next gobble was closer and I knew they were coming. Soon, we heard something walking just over the hill and a longbeard pops up at 45 yds and just stands there surveying the area. I was worried that we would be busted. Soon, another longbeard showed up behind him and they both proceeded to work around below us. As they went behind some trees I got Ethan moved around and situated to shoot. The original bird slowly closed the distance to 35 yds and then started to turn around. It was pushing the range of his Mossy 500 20 gauge but it now or never....I gave him the go ahead. He shoots and the gobbler soaks up a load of 3" Mag Blends but doesn't go down...after a follow up shot the young hunter had his first ever turkey: a nice 20 lb two year old with a 9.5" beard. To say he was excited was an understatement. What a great start to the season!!! His pants right after shooting his bird... After a LONG walk back to the truck...(I forgot to stock my vest with ziploc gallon bags...lol) Come on sunday!!!

  47. On Opening Day of PA spring gobbler season 1992, I encountered a sow with 5 (yes FIVE) cubs. IIRC the year before or the year after that sighting I saw a sow with 3 cubs. Both situations were on the same dead end road..........very cool! Congrats to you on your sighting, they are neat to see!
