Visited the peregrines this morning after getting back from a week of vacation and found that two young falcons have successfully fledged. Here's a few shots from today and some other recent photos.6 points

I hope all are following what is happening in Orlando.. It boils my blood to see such things take place on American soil. I hope all realize the significance and reality of what is taking place in the United States. I urge all to stay vigilant and if possible, armed. This isn't a post to get everyone riled up, but everyone should come to the realization that this could take place literally anywhere. These people are amongst us. I'm sick of seeing Americans die at the hands of these scum bags. This will all quiet down in a couple weeks and everyone will go back to their normal lives until the next attack. It may not happen in your neck of the woods, but if it does, you need to be prepared. God Bless America.5 points

When the farmer I lease to was here working the fields, I asked him to work up an acre for me in the duck pond field. He hit it with his chisel plow, then with the discs. He saved me lots of time and fuel! I'm going to put brassicas in there. Also, I worked up a strip in front of this plot and another to plant Egyptian wheat and sorghum to act as a screen to allow me to get in and out undetected. Screen for new plot Screen for old plot2 points

I have had beagles since I was a young boy and I currently have 3 beagles. All of my dogs have been and are rabbit dogs. Bones looks to me to be a muscular dog and does not appear to be overweight as his belly does not appear to be sagging at all in the photo where he is sitting. I would just feed him the correct amount of dog food for his present weight and when you run him in the fall, I'm sure he will be just fine. Just be careful with giving him treats and do not feed him table scraps. Beagles are known gluttons and will eat as much as you give them. He looks to me to have good potential as a hunter. Don't worry about field trials- what counts is the great days you have hunting with them. Those days are priceless.2 points

Trying to get started with my own soft plastics company in the albany area. Made with CNC aluminum molds and have senko style worms, swimming senko style worms, drop shot worms, and swimming shad worms. $4 a bag. This is how the big, modern day companies started, so I'm trying to do the same, one step at a time! Fresh out of college as well. Thanks1 point

Threw some lead with the .44 downrange behind my buddies yesterday. Took a good walk. Think it was too windy for these lil buggers as we had no problems with them. I expected them to be bad. Now golfing these SOB's were a PITA. Learned to put my hand on top of my head, wait for them to land and slowly move hand dow n to swat with other. It sucked getting nabbed mid backswing.1 point

Field trial washouts often become the best gun dogs. Besides, unless the previous owner trained and hunted everyday, five years old is relatively young to put a dog in with other dogs who have hunted daily. If the dog was (truly) 8 pounds overweight, I doubt he was hunted every day. If he puts rabbits in the frying pan is all that counts. If he wins trials all you get is a ribbon or trophy or a small purse, and maybe a title. Can't eat trophies.1 point

i know that got brought up in the other thread but i think why charges get pleaded down are miss understood. first the fines now are much less than what this makes them. this bill has even gotten watered down to pass it. it was more. right now fines are low enough and can be pleaded down a certain way where local towns get more of the money versus more going the state. DA office and judge together can only give and accept a plea that's pleaded down so much. otherwise it looks really bad and would lead to bad PR. local judges can't take that much bad PR and not fear getting losing endorsement, let alone getting elected in the future. this without doubt will benefit all hunters in NY state. poachers not so much.1 point

But it's not a problem when the 'domestic extremists' are produced by divisive Leftist rhetoric? The only threat this professor is concerned with is that the establishment of a global New World Order now has a vocal opponent expressing the concerns of a sizable portion of the US population. This entire article is a fine example of precisely what the author is railing against, but it's deemed acceptable because it fits the Leftist narrative. I personally can't think of anything more "extreme" than an agenda promoting the dissolution of US sovereignty.1 point

So I looked out a window last weekend and couldn't believe what I was looking at. Two of these guys were in my yard last summer also. I wish they would leave me a shed or two this winter.1 point

Do you guys really feel it reflects on ALL hunters? I feel it only reflects upon the person that posted it. I agree the comment was a bit crass, and that really only reflects badly (to some) on the person that posted it.1 point

Sorry for the delay. Here's the rest of the story and thanks for the comments and following along. After a good long while contemplating what to do next I was still undecided. I'm usually pretty good at figuring things out by myself and making up my own mind when it comes to this kind of stuff, but now I was technically in posession of a deer, and didn't quite have all the answers I needed to make the wisest decision. I decided at this point it was best to put it in someone elses hands who would know better what was best for this little rascal. Reluctantly, I got out my wallet where I had a card from a DEC officer who I met in the past and explained what had happened. The officer sounded interested on the phone and said he would be out shortly to take a look at the critter and then we'd go from there. He arrived and observed the deers behavior, her physical condition and appearance, and her tempermant. After gathering all this information, he rattled off about a half dozen deer diseases like they were the common cold, but I had a hard time even pronouncing any of them again, lol. After making a few phone calls, he pointed out several possabilities for this deers abnormal behavior that he felt were worthy of investigating further without having to put the deer down. One explanation being, illegaly posessed, raised and released, but that wasn't determined true or false at the site. He had seen all he needed to see, and informed me he was just there to make a judgement call on what to do next. After 1 1/2hrs since I placed the initial call, it was obvious this little doe wasn't going anywhere. The DEC officer made one more call and told me someone would be coming out to collect the animal soon. He gave me another card with Laura's number on it and said she'd be the one coming out but didn't say when. Another 1/2 hour passed. Now I've watched 'Swamp People' so I already had a picture painted in my head of the ruff and tough, 300lb, animal wrassler "Laura", who would show up in her safari buggy fully decked out in off road lights and roll bars. I did not get what I expected, lol. When she arrived and assessed the situation, it was clear to see even though she didn't fit my stereotypical visions, she was all bussiness. She grabbed a needle and we tried to get hold of the deer so she could administer the sedative. Her first poke would prove to be her last as the deer quickly wised up and knew we were up to something. It was hard to get close to her any longer and she was making her way through the woods now and into the neighbors yard. My neighbor has a 30'x30'(x7' high) outside dog keenel for their labs so we coralled the deer into there. Now this bugger was bouncing off the fence and scared out of it's mind. Every lunge she made against it to ellude us could have ended bad if one of her hooves got caught in the fence. In the blink of an eye and without warning, Laura pounced on the deer like a WWF wrestler ad picked it up. The deer thrashed and kicked and squirted free so I did my own rendition of her cat like manuever and we flopped on the deer together where she was finally able to administer the sedative! We stepped out of the kennel for about 15 minutes to let the drug take affect then returned to transport her once she calmed down enough. I flipped the camera into 'AUTO' mode and had to pass it off so the pics get a little sloppy now. As you can see, Laura turned out not to be the beastly hulk of a woman I was expecting to wrassle deer with today, lol. We got the deer wrapped in a straigh jacket blanket and it was time to carry her back to the buggy! We finally got her back to the "safari buggy"... also her daily commuter, and I waited for her to prepare to load. You guessed it.... I hope the tranquilizer doesn't wear off any time soon, lol So I like to believe my encounter with this little deer had potentialy saved it's life. At least I know I did the resposible thing to do and the rest is up to the deer and those administering help now. She was taken to a rehab facility where they'll do their thing and hopefully raise her back to being 'wild' and released again. I'll try calling for an update on her progress later in the week and keep you guys posted of the outcome. Who knows, she may have been one of the spotted fawns that followed me around all last spring and summers photo shoots. Regaurdless, she's in good hands now!1 point
