Hi all, So it's been quite some time. Just want to let you know I'm alive and doing well and no, I didn't get chased away from the forum or get disgusted by it what so ever. It's been a crazy year. I use to log on a lot because I worked in an office and I would just have the forum open on my computer and then when I got home, I'd check in as well. I haven't logged in for several reasons. 1. I was working for a hospitality business that included event venues, restaurants, and hotels. Of course COVID took a big hit on it. I was laid off for a bit. Eventually when things started to open I was one of the first to be called back. My team was a fraction of what it use to be and I was asked to open up all most of the location by myself. I was working a lot and that was the last time I logged into the forum. 2. I also realized that the industry I was in was probably not the best industry so I put my name out there and was recruited by a new company that specializes in biometric data and I took the job. Being a security company that holds sensitive data, I have to use a computer that is locked. While I can work around it, I decided to be the good company boy and not log in while working. Starting a new job and also learning new technology also means I'm just as busy as well. 3. When working, we some times get so immersed in our works that we forget to look up. During my year sitting at home during lock down I realized that I was not as involved in my children's lives as I should be. So I no longer log in after work either. On weekends, I always try to do something with them. 4. I also purchased a second home as an investment property. It's a multi-family home that I rent out. As a "slumlord", I had to also had to fix up the house so it would be fit for tenants, go through the renting process, and now do occassional maintenances there, etc. Anyway, hopefully everything should eventually start to settle down and I'll check in more often but the odds of me being as involved as I was before probably won't come soon. Oh, and apparently my login is all funky. Fortunately, I never logged out of TapaTalk so I can still check in every once in a while with it. Best, Elmo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't think anyone is discounting your input. I know you've posted several valuable posts on insects but also specific hunting related detail too. Don't overthink the lack of comment/quoting, etc.

just looked on your page and last 10 or so posts were just short ones so guess i didnt respond due to that or possibly the topic.... But i am betting your one of the 98% on here i would gladly have a beer with. And would love to hear about some Georgia hunting- deer, gators, hogs... And i have a question - are wild hogs as prevalant there as us NYers' think? Always hear about how many are in the south and is it something people are able to hunt on open land or is most of it on private land? Ive heard they are bad and ive also heard a lot of people have capitialized on them for hunting on their private lands and its actually difficult to find a spot that an outfitter hasnt already gobbled up. And you ever run into Micheal Waddell? lol

Forgot to add… no gators up here. I lived in Florida for 42 years. I was involved with Gator trapping when I worked at Dismal. Have a 10.5 ‘ Gator (head mount) that I caught with the state trapper.

I've been a member here for approximately 6 years. I visit regularly, but only post occasionally. Seldom do I receive comments, feedback or any sort of communication regarding anything. Why does it feel like y'all don't like and / or appreciate "outsiders"? Pygmy (Dan) has been the only member that seemed friendly and helpful. Guess I didn't realize that not living in NYS would so hamper my experience. Any comments?

I go up there every year and September can be hit or miss depending on the weather. I will highly recommend using light fishing line because the Salmon up there get mess with and they get line shy. If you go to the Douglaston you have to pay , but you have a better chance of hooking a fresher Salmon. Good luck

My logging rod plot is up 4" in 6 days.. zero complaints there. MY messy plot has basically zero germination. way way too much thatch to get the seed down. I thought it would happen but figured id try it, since i did the plot a couple weeks early to experiment. Ill till it up very lightly just to expose a little soil and re seed.. rain next week hopefully. keep your soils covered in this dry summer weather will help you get started on fall plots as well.. Havent checked my other plots yet, but the cell cam shows a little greenery on them. Ill check them soon.

I’m just making a post to add to the total on this thread and maybe you will win the day, or whatever nonsense that is, make you feel good. its like everything, those making a lot of noise seem to get all the attention, but quality beats quantity.

Just be sure on the regs out there. A trip to Fat Nancy's tackle shop will get you setup. There used to be regs on the hook gap and how long your leader was from any weight etc. I used to be up on all that but I def am not these days. I think ensuring that you are tapping the bottom on the drift is imperative. I'd rather be having to re-tie often and be in the game then never be in the game at all by drifitng halfway down the water column. You can learn a lot by wathcing the guys who are consistenly hooking up. I too prefer a lighter line as WWJD stated - like 10lb P-line or Maxima. But there are guys on here that are way more legit than myself, that's just what works for me.

By the end of Sept they should def be in the river. Esp if we get some rain and the flow is up. You don't need a guide but expect to see quite a few people no matter where you go. Stop at any of the bait shops in Altmar or Pulaski and they will hook you up with gear and regs. I used to fish it a lot but haven't in years. I would always get to my spot in the dark and wait there for daylight to fish. The best fishing was when 6-8 of us would go and basically take a whole pool. Then when one guy hooks up and is fighting a fish when he gets back no one minded being shoulder to shoulder when everyone is together. Best time is during the weekdays if your there then. I'd give you some spots but I haven't been up there in a few years. Used to fish just past Altmar a lot. Was a hotel there off of rte 13 on a road that cut over to 81. Also the trestle pool etc. But got so it wasn't my thing anymore. If you find a spot you like then the next day get there super early then bang out a limit by 9am. I used to walk in the pitch dark with a flashlight, then the minute it was legal light I was casting! The fight is amazing, the wading and amount of people is not. I'll be headed for GA next week. Gator season starts at sunset on the 19th. Been 5 years since I drew my first GA gator tag! Lots of nice area in GA I just try to avoid ATL, hate driving in that city!

My garden has the biggest darkest green zuke leaves iver ever seen. The plants are over 4ft tall extremely thick and producing more zuchinni than we can eat. and we are eating it every night. Picking nearly 20lbs every2 nights it seems from 3 plants.

i will be a maybe for it. That weekend we are cutting all our shooting lanes and replacing straps on all our treestands (10), and replacing battereies and cam cards in 7 cams and have 4 more to put up and a possible a last mow on the trails so its gonna be pending weather and getting that done. Damn ive gotta dust of the bow and shoot it soon too! Havent been to one in a while and would def like to meet you guys there. @ridgerunner88 was asking about bow shoots in the area if hes interested too.

Just picked up 20 lbs of sausage, half garlic half hot from this little pork shop on Lexington in downtown smallbany. They did a nice job! Dropped off 15 lbs of venison on Tuesday, at least 20 lbs end product done by Friday. I've already had the hot courtesy of a buddy a month ago, it was awesome. Looking forward to getting some of this garlic on the grill. 60 bucks seems like a decent deal? It was the last of my non-ground up venison from last year.

Rob covered it pretty darn well. I am in a club up off Partridgeville Rd. Like Rob said, few deer and that time of year is tough if the foliage is still hanging on, which it will be with the Beech... I have never bow hunted up there, but finding the food at that time has led me to a few ML kills in that early season. I would imagine you would have most of the woods to yourself (hunter-wise) as ML season starts the 15th I believe this year. We uually fish for a bit, hunt for a bit etc., on Otter and the Independence, especially on the warm days. Good luck!
