  1. Hi all, So it's been quite some time. Just want to let you know I'm alive and doing well and no, I didn't get chased away from the forum or get disgusted by it what so ever. It's been a crazy year. I use to log on a lot because I worked in an office and I would just have the forum open on my computer and then when I got home, I'd check in as well. I haven't logged in for several reasons. 1. I was working for a hospitality business that included event venues, restaurants, and hotels. Of course COVID took a big hit on it. I was laid off for a bit. Eventually when things started to open I was one of the first to be called back. My team was a fraction of what it use to be and I was asked to open up all most of the location by myself. I was working a lot and that was the last time I logged into the forum. 2. I also realized that the industry I was in was probably not the best industry so I put my name out there and was recruited by a new company that specializes in biometric data and I took the job. Being a security company that holds sensitive data, I have to use a computer that is locked. While I can work around it, I decided to be the good company boy and not log in while working. Starting a new job and also learning new technology also means I'm just as busy as well. 3. When working, we some times get so immersed in our works that we forget to look up. During my year sitting at home during lock down I realized that I was not as involved in my children's lives as I should be. So I no longer log in after work either. On weekends, I always try to do something with them. 4. I also purchased a second home as an investment property. It's a multi-family home that I rent out. As a "slumlord", I had to also had to fix up the house so it would be fit for tenants, go through the renting process, and now do occassional maintenances there, etc. Anyway, hopefully everything should eventually start to settle down and I'll check in more often but the odds of me being as involved as I was before probably won't come soon. Oh, and apparently my login is all funky. Fortunately, I never logged out of TapaTalk so I can still check in every once in a while with it. Best, Elmo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. I don't think anyone is discounting your input. I know you've posted several valuable posts on insects but also specific hunting related detail too. Don't overthink the lack of comment/quoting, etc.

  6. just looked on your page and last 10 or so posts were just short ones so guess i didnt respond due to that or possibly the topic.... But i am betting your one of the 98% on here i would gladly have a beer with. And would love to hear about some Georgia hunting- deer, gators, hogs... And i have a question - are wild hogs as prevalant there as us NYers' think? Always hear about how many are in the south and is it something people are able to hunt on open land or is most of it on private land? Ive heard they are bad and ive also heard a lot of people have capitialized on them for hunting on their private lands and its actually difficult to find a spot that an outfitter hasnt already gobbled up. And you ever run into Micheal Waddell? lol

  16. I've been a member here for approximately 6 years. I visit regularly, but only post occasionally. Seldom do I receive comments, feedback or any sort of communication regarding anything. Why does it feel like y'all don't like and / or appreciate "outsiders"? Pygmy (Dan) has been the only member that seemed friendly and helpful. Guess I didn't realize that not living in NYS would so hamper my experience. Any comments?

  20. I go up there every year and September can be hit or miss depending on the weather. I will highly recommend using light fishing line because the Salmon up there get mess with and they get line shy. If you go to the Douglaston you have to pay , but you have a better chance of hooking a fresher Salmon. Good luck

  24. My logging rod plot is up 4" in 6 days.. zero complaints there. MY messy plot has basically zero germination. way way too much thatch to get the seed down. I thought it would happen but figured id try it, since i did the plot a couple weeks early to experiment. Ill till it up very lightly just to expose a little soil and re seed.. rain next week hopefully. keep your soils covered in this dry summer weather will help you get started on fall plots as well.. Havent checked my other plots yet, but the cell cam shows a little greenery on them. Ill check them soon.

  31. Update: Replaced camera batteries today and decided to throw caution to the wind and try and find/walk as many of the deer paths as I could find. Below is a birds eye view along with as an area of interest I found, a legit buck bed. Its ~40yds from some apple trees, 60yds from the field edge. I created a mock scrape 100yds away at an intersection of trails. Bad luck though, my camera didnt have service in there so I just need to “hope” the scrape gets used. Overall it looks like a good early season opportunity to try the ol Dan Infalt Beast Tactics… try and get close to that bed and catch him going to those apples or the scrape. Win or lose, this is gonna be fun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. What is the line test and capacity of the real? Personally I would like one a bit shorter for casting and pitching in the holes. But it should prob work. Light action is the most fun but remember you are likely surrounded by others, medium action is prob enough. And the farther they take you up and down the river the less likely you are to land them. I used to use 17lb mono. I know some guys use 10-12 lb but I def wouldn't go lighter than 14lb because of all the rocks and the size of the fish. Be sure it holds at least 150 yards of line. That being said you can use a good braid and get better hooksets but just use a fluorocarbon or mono leader. 14lb braid is like having 30+ #lb test mono so the leader will break first. You can even rig some leaders ahead of time to make it quicker. Something around 7-8 ft is gonna be easier to operate esp if you haven't done it before. Pin fishing is very popular but your gonna be spending a good amount for one of those rigs and it takes a while to get the feel of it. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

  38. I’m not getting worked up or anything. I do recall one member pushing some crap about me coming on here and posting while not living in NYS. While I was born and raised in Steuben County, I moved away a long time ago. My family has a little land with a hunting cabin on it that we (the wife and I) have been coming to every year for a very long time. I shot my first buck at the age of 16 in 1966. It was on the Erwin WMA, and comes with a unique story. To answer an above question, the best hog hunting in is south Ga. I live way up north in the mountains, and am surrounded by thousands of acres of national forest. There are not many Ag crops, and the deer mainly live in residential areas (like my yard lol). We do have some turkey (AAMOF) I have pics of a white turkey in a wild flock. There are a lot of black bears around… have seen three in my yard.

  39. The only reason you think " Not living in NY " would hamper your experience is because you yourself mentions the fact that you " do not live in NY " ! No one cares where anyone lives - just so you know - just enjoy the website and share Hunting / Fishing Stories / Pics and/or Jokes ! Have a great day !

  40. I have done them different ways . Easiest seems to be build it on ground and slide it up on top ( metal roof 2x3 frame. ) then screw thru top plate to attach. I also will built and start to cover it and leave a sheet out and attach it from below like a hatch lining up ridges and capping the other sheets . Add bracing to attach it to other rafters.. I only use metal or plastic /fiberglass panels i cant imagine roofing it like a house with shingles

  42. My understanding is that they want you to roll before seeding so that the seeds don't get buried too deep, but if you did a drag with your fert you'd be fine too. I imagine you'll still get good results unless you had some real deep ruts after discing.

  43. No just for legs if i dont cut larch or locust. Give your roof a good 2 ft overhang all around protects the siding better than any stain.

  45. Back to the subject of having the itch to hunt deer. I think I have it 365. I'm back out in the deer woods soon after the season ends, and if there's snow on the ground when a weekend rolls around, that's a golden opportunity to take a walk. Later on when the snow melts, that's a warm welcome to stretch the legs and time to look for sheds and do more scouting. Then the last few months here in the summer, after working 50+ hours during the week, I was itching to get out and trim some stands, set some trail cams and keep in tune with the woods on the weekends. A lot of evenings shooting arrows now and hope to get out and glass some deer just for fun in the August evenings.
