  1. Quick check in. Ohio hunting has been very slow with the high temps. We walked into the stand two days ago at 80 degrees for example. It’s been quite boring short of seeing a fisher and a beaver from the stand. Not a surprise, day movements have been slow in PM. Short burst of activity all does and 1.5s in AMs. Yesterday we got a very mild cold front. One buck we did have some confidence in ended up breaking off his G2 and G4 the evening before. He got a pass as we sat all day yesterday to push luck on this minor cold front (high of 60). Cams have shown good action at night lol short of the busted up buck. We decided yesterday to leave for Missouri Wednesday and try to hunt a huge monster cold front coming in Friday AM. Going from 71 to 37 for the HIGH. New job starts 21st and I have no PTO. Tough decision but I relegated to taking the first good buck I see here in Ohio. NY has been a disaster with our properties too. I haven’t seen a 2.5 yo in nearly three weeks. All day sir was slow. Saw one deer tail 60 yards out in brush in AM and nothing at all til 3 when a spike came in and left 20 min later. 4:30, this guy came in and I made a shot at 30. Just barely saw him go down but it was the “I think” he went down that I saw so we waited. He died where I last saw him. High slight quarter to but got both lungs and exited through liver. 9 point with a split brow. Had backstraps for a very late dinner after him dying in 6-7ft multiflora. I’m happy with him due to the slowness of the season. We definitely need to work on property access next year in NY and get more work done here in Ohio. Onto Missouri after tonight’s sit.

  2. Hope everyone gets a chance to get out and get their vote’s in today. Ny has a decent shot at changing the colors in the state for a change. Those in now have failed us again.

  5. I say dead deer Burt. The high hit with no exit wound will leave a sparse blood trail at first. But as the chest cavity fills up, he will start bleeding from his nose and mouth. Also from the arrow wound. Just to be sure give him at least four hours. You will likely find him where he crashed a hundred yards or less from where you last saw him.

  6. May as well go home if you haven’t seen a deer yet. IT’S THE RUT YOU LUGNUTS. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME.

  10. I live in a rural area and every election day a nice buck deer crosses the road in front of me on my way to the polls. this year was no exception, a beautiful eight pointer with a nice spread, high tines and great symmetry lifted my spirits this crisp and clear Autumn morning, what are the odds?!?!?!? I don't look on it as a good omen this day we exercise our franchise, nah, but I do think the appearance of that blood red moon at five AM will portend the red spectrum sweeping polling stations across the land. 13. 2 bucks and 5 does/fawns this AM so far. Decent 8 almost got a hole in him but at the last second the doe he was interested in decided to go a different direction. Watched them for 20 minutes, he rubbed trees and made scrapes the entire time. Small 6 came by awhile ago and headed straight toward the combine that's chopping right now 50 yds away. I'm in all day again, hopefully something else wants to cruise today. Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

  14. It is the time. I’m finally heading down to the Tier farm for a few weeks to chase a couple hit listers. Now is the time to bring the headphones or a book and stay in that seat as long as possible. Good Luck.

  17. Cameras are starting to pop all hours now but still mostly the little guys. Next weekend thru next week will be game time for the best of the breed we chase.

  23. I'm typically not pushing a deer with a bow in my hands, the odds of follow up shots are low on a marginally hit deer. Rifle leg hits are another story. I'd rather wait until the next morning than chase a deer a mile with my bow in hand. Not to mention the OP's deer has a high entrance wound, chances of being able to follow a great distance is lower, and if it's a single lung he'll still have his wits about him enough to stay well in front of you... 25. Every hit is different. The deer is only “dying” if the arrow struck vitals. We don’t know that happened here. I’d give it about a 50:50 chance. It all depends on if the broadhead passed over or under the spine. Due to the close range and steep shot angle, it may have passed over, but the broadhead could still be lodged inside the opposite front upper leg. That is where pushing it could keep it cutting and increase blood loss. The odds of recovery are still slim in that case, but slightly better than they would be with a ; hour wait. Let’s hope the arrow got under the spine, in which case the track shouldn’t be too long regardless of how long he waits.

  26. Man you have got to be real close on a top of the lungs hit, hopefully he is leaking bad and his lungs fill up and hopefully you will find him dead, good luck. Al

  31. Not bad, like a head cold. I went to work late this afternoon to check email and voicemail, sent some emails etc. Nobody in the office........ Then shot my bow out back, knocking two vanes off two arrows. Tomorrow while convalescing I'll break out the Bitzenburger and glue some new ones on.

  33. Hunt #24 Littlefield 1:30-dark Saw nothing. Crazy windy. No wonder the plot looks chewed. Does out there every night but tonight of course. Very few bucks there though. Seems odd with all the does.

  34. Me! Finally have a few hours i can spend in the woods, first sit of the year. I have a property I only hunted twice last year. Its my best bedding stand that sets up perfectly for a N wind. Cant wait to shake the cobwebs off.

  36. My son wacked a great buck tonight with the xbow. Haven't seen a thing all year but a spike so far. Couldn't get in any of our good stands with the strong south winds. Until tonight, the wind switched just enough west to get into a good stand. Last half hour, this guy comes out of nowhere, 25 yards quartering towards us. He made an awesome shot, got the top of both lungs and never hit the guts. No exit hole so it was a tiny bits of blood as he ran with the bolt in him, but we heard him crash hard from the stand. But it started pouring and so little blood I started getting nervous that maybe I was hearing things when he crashed. He went about 100 yards total and piled up.
