Good luck everyone and most importantly stay safe. Thanks to our insurance company I will be sitting out another year. Hopefully next year will be the year I can return to hunting. It has been a long haul for sure but at least we have been able to re-build. Stay safe and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.5 points

First here 7j 6:30 been quiet the last hour Had a small 6 in front of me for 15 minutes, a big doe I was gonna take but she had her fawn and I’m too soft2 points

Out in 4Z, rainy and quiet. 14 shots since 6AM, least amount of shots I have ever heard on an opening day. Brought out the Rem 700 in 7mm-08, it has a synthetic stock and treated barrel, my Marlin 35 Rem wouldn't fare well in this rain.2 points

Best of luck folks! I'll be out in 7M with my Remington 1187 with the red dot if it's raining but not too hard. But if it is too much of a downpour, I'll head for my elevated closed in blind and take my Weatherby 30-06.2 points

Good call. I actually think I'm taking my Remington 1187 with the red dot for the first day. I haven't taken it out for an opening day in years, but it feels like the year to start out up close and personal with the deer.2 points

Taking the Howa 308 out tomorrow, putting my dad in the stand I saw 23 deer from Sunday in 7p, we both have doe tags this year so game on. He will shoot any buck too, I’m selective. Bought a millennium m300 tree chair so I can move around comfortably on 400 acres.2 points

I got this black squirrel about 5 years ago. I had it mounted because I thought they were rare. I found out that some areas are abundant with them. I also saw a true albino squirrel when I was spring turkey hunting. It sat about 10’ from me trying to figure out what I was. I returned on September 1st hoping to shoot it but never saw it again. They fall prey to raptors because they stand out like a sore thumb in the green spring foliage. Not to mention the foxes , coyotes and bobcats.2 points

Adding a little fiber to my diet. That is, the little black fuzzy stuff that lines my coat pockets. My sticky peanut brittle came out of its plastic baggy and stuck like glue to the fuzzy material in my coat pockets. No way I’m wasting my peanut brittle. Trying to rip it off has proven to be quite the challenge, and time passer. I don’t imagine the fuzz will kill me, and it sure seems to me anyway less of a threat than the 209 primers I swallowed on accident once while I was hunting.1 point

Too warm for deer hunting today, so I went to Plan B and took the Harley out for a ride. Middle of November, 60 degrees and sunny. Now I think the Breakout is done for the winter.1 point

I stood in the wind on the metal ladder stand until almost 11AM. Toes and fingers got the better of me so I finally climbed down. Fist shots (2) I heard here in 7M at 6:30. Then quite a few scattered shots throughout the morning until about 10 am, then silent. I can't believe I never even saw a deer this morning's sit. I'll take care of a few chores, rest and warm up, then head back out. I chickened out taking my shotgun this morning and going where I wanted to be, overlooking the scrapes in the orchard where I got all the buck pictures. That spot is right on my property line faced into my land, but I was afraid if people on the other property fired at my property it might end badly for me. I'll wait until mid week to sit there if I have not scored by then.1 point

Good luck to all the Southern Zone hunters, personally I have not hunted south in over thirty years, I keep my hunting North in mostly big woods. Went out for short morning hunt in the Oaks and Beech groves, the local wildlife was quite active. saw a Squirrel almost get taken by a Hawk. Had the same two Does I have been seeing feeding at daylight, I have a DPM and was tempted to plunk the big girl with my new 6.5 Creedmoor, at 75 yards I had the crosshairs resting behind her front shoulder, she was dead meat but I abstained. Still looking for a Buck but have seen zero Buck sign so that Doe had better watch it. While watching the Deer feed I saw them come to attention and lift their tails and take off. Something was coming, it was the local retarded Turkey flock. They piled into the grove of mast trees jumping up and down flapping their wings chattering away having a grand old time scratching through the leaves for food. That was it for me, have to do chores and pick up a load of hay, may have time to go out this afternoon for a short hunt. Al1 point

Here is one of several videos showing how the device is used, it can also be used for some other small game animals . I like it because it will do the job neater and cleaner. Al1 point

Went down to my oldest son's property in Honeoye Falls to give it a try . I was in the blind at 2:30 . About 3:30 , a small racked buck with a decent size body showed up around 20 yards from me . I put the 20 yard dot on him and took the safety off . The safety made a click sound , the deer heard it and looked my way . When it turned it's head I pulled the trigger . This was the 1st time I ever had a shot at any deer with the crossbow . The deer bolted and took off in the direction that it came from . I found my bolt as the shot was a pass through . I couldn't spot any blood . I had called my son and he was on the way home . He told me to wait for him . Matt and Blake ( grandson ) came out and we started looking for blood . Speck here and there . Matt spotted it in the neighbor's woods about 30 yards onto that property . Recovered the deer and Matt should be butchering it right now . I doubt that I would have found the deer without help . Shot the deer on the left side with a Rage Expandable .1 point

Find something made of wool to your liking that will be comfortable under the bibs and ditch the jeans, they are made of cotton. Al1 point

Here you go: left to right: 7, 12, 9, 10 7 was my first legally antlered bow buck (naturally my first bow buck was a button). 12 was a road kill that bought it around the corner from our place. I knew a taxi who mounted deer for $125 back then, and it seemed a shame not to get that heavy “driftwood rack” non-typical 12 mounted. 9 was my largest racked buck. It took me (9) 16 gauge slugs to put that one down for good but he was only hit with the first and the last. 1st shot broke his front leg at long range. He had a rear hoof shot off the week before. I was a little faster back then than he was on just two good legs and eventually caught up to him for my last shot. Split double brow tine 10 was the most points I ever got. I thought it was a doe at the time of the shot (head was behind a tree) and I was surprised by all the points. Killed same year as 7 on left on opening day of gun (7 was killed on opening day of bow). I got a “package deal” from another guy to mount both cheap (the $ 125 ea guy had died a few years prior). I think he charged around $175 ea and his normal price was $200. 8: My first Adirondack buck currently resides maybe 40 miles NE of your ranch. Father in law likes to decorate his place with “native local species” 6: My first legally antlered gun buck (my first gun buck was also a button). I mounted this one myself into a head that was given to me by a buddy. He had a big rack, from a buck killed by his grandfather, put on a new larger cape. He was going to throw the old mounted head away, but gave it to me instead. My dad made the walnut board cut the back on that one: Each of these was “special” in some way (first, etc.) and like I said, the numbers thing was just a random chance. Hopefully, if I ever do get that 11, it will be up north. We don’t have much extra wall space back here in WNY.1 point
