  5. Here is an observation on older bucks.. My neighbor to the north sees small bucks and he doesn't understand that we see bigger bucks than he does .he starts a 8 point rule.. Still no seeing bigger bucks than he was before.. We have no rule but use cams to show us what's available and we try for top 3 or 4bucks. We can take a 120 plus in buck every year he sees on that side about ever 4 years.. He hunts out of tripods in open brush fields. We hunt in thick nasty stuff that maybe you can see past 30 yards.. We have 1900ft of boarder with him and deer cross back and forth.. His take..we need restrictions!! There are no big bucks... Our take.. No restrictions necessary.. We do fine. It's not about restrictions it's about learning to. Hunt an area properly waiting for what you want. Even small properties can hold mature bucks if the habitat is there that they require. Looking thru an open woods at 300 yards or across an open field will not yield the same results as hunting in areas larger buck will hold to.

  18. that's a good point too elmo. A mechanical is definitely not a good choice for stalking, and of course I hope all know it's also no good for the shoot through blinds. In summary. Deer are tough to kill. It amazes me sometimes what they can survive.

  22. Happens to me all the time with the Rages. That's why I use Montec G5's when hiking/stalking. Once I get to my spot and comfortably settled in is when I switch over to the Rage.

  25. I have a Belgium 12G have had it since 1986 my first 12G just redid the stock. I used to shoot birds with it but once steel became the law I put it up as a safe queen. Not sure what it's worth but wouldn't ever sell mine.

  26. I made spicy chicken fingers. Didn't take a pic. Have leftover tomato sauce and sausage slow cooked in the crock pot ( don't have a pic of that either ), wanted to have tomorrows dinner done tonight, so I can deal with the shoveling issues for the next couple days.

  28. At the very least, they should exempt first time hunters. We seem to stick our head in the sand that new hunters = young hunters. But the whole thing isn't a smart move either.

  29. SNOW DAY! I know I am opening up myself up to all that crap about unions, tenure, retirement, summers off, yadda, yadda , yadda! However, teaching still offers that one opportunity to turn me back into the a school kid finding out we have been blessed with an unexpected day off! Be saw out there if you are working tomorrow-I will be home (grading papers) but in my pjs at least!

  32. Yup. That's why some western states make it illegal to hunt with magnified optics. Where I hunt mule deer in Utah during ML season, you have to use open sights or a non-magnifying scope. So, regardless of the ML you have, it keeps the season challenging.

  36. it's simple ROI for the non-business man I can explain. vehicles - not going away agriculture - not going away wind turbines - not going away tall buildings - not going away steel shot to replace lead? why not. there is no ROI on your 4 examples that make sense. There is pretty simple ROI for lead shot. Too many people just hate change. Heck I shoot hevi turkey loads because it actually performs better!

  38. You missed the type.of cover being hunted as well.. If you have 5 acres of open hardwoods your not going to get any daytime picture a of good older bucks.. Just like sitting over an open field won't get.you a big one except on a rare ocasion if it's pushed or chasing a doe. Having more older bucks in an area will not make them appear in an. Open field or open hardwoods ..they will do what all older buck do. Stick to cover

  39. I really think your failure is due to helical fetching. Its not needed with mechanical heads it is needed for fixed.. The blades snap easily when hit from she side(torque) but are designed for straight impact.. The extra spin your arrows are getting at 71 lbs with helical spin would place a lot of torque on the deploying blades.. They would snap easily as the are deploying and spinning as they enter.. That is a Set up for Set failure..

  46. I've shot all my deer with Rage's for the last 10 years, but never used the hypos. I've used the originals and chisel tips. I sometimes feel like with the right shot a field tip should still kill. of course you want to maximize potential. I also wonder sometimes if they become "loose" prior to shooting. I've looked at my knocked arrow on more than one occasion and seen one blade flopping freely.

  49. I don't know how old you are...young enough to traverse the wall of Letchworth, I'll assume not too old. Me ,this year I start pushing my way to 60...older but not old. I do know many older gentleman and some gals that are older hunters...some with failing health...They go through what can be an extreme effort to hit the woods and I can tell you they could give a damn about deer size...They just want to say they shot a deer that year and they enjoyed eating it. If you throw the old doe thing at me, I just may puke...I should have proven that it's not always easy to get a doe to show in day light...and I hunt more than most. So some of these older people may have that one single opportunity and it could be a 4 or 6 pt...They deserve that opportunity. See you(general term) younger chest beat bucks that need bragging rights...well most of you have a good many years left to make that choice...If that is what you want, go for it...you obviously don't need a law to force you to wait. Oh I forgot in" today's world", your not suppose to wait, you should be able to have a big buck behind every other tree. That's what will make them so much more special to shoot....Like picking the biggest apple in the bin..So many big apples in that bin, all very tasty and bright...You just needed to pick and choose the very biggest... Yes my sarcasm is back
