  1. #fromtheground He was moving in from the right. Real slow and weary. He started to circle behind me. I hit him at about 40 yds. He ran maybe 70 yds then I watched him pile up. He's a big bodied 7pt. This mile drag through mud is going to take me all day.

  2. Had a special order from one of my customers from last summer. She has already bought SEVERAL carves from me and has 3 Rotties of her own, and asked me if I could carve her a simple Rottweiler head. She had paid some con-carver schmuck from Pennsyltucky to do the job for her a few years ago, but he just ran off with her cash and never delivered the piece. I let her know I'd give it a shot, but not to get her hopes up as I've never attempted anything like this before..., BUT my plan was to do a full body, life size rottweiler out of one of the biggest maple logs I had here and just charge her for my tool supplies and materials. That was about 4 months ago, and I finally built up the courage to start making some saw dust here a couple weeks ago. My free time is VERY limited lately so things have been progressing really slowly with this one, but I'm finally past the crucial cut stages and heading into the home stretch now and ready to start working on the base soon! Sometimes the hardest part for me is getting past that initial fear of trying something new, and making those first few cuts before everything else just starts falling into place! I couldn't be happier with how this one's coming along and she's over the moon with it as well so far! Added my mum in one of the pics for size reference, so careful with any of those comments, lol

  5. Just heard a barred owl. Hello big brother. Thanks for looking over me today. And 18 year old kid being sought after by police in this town. He killed his parents and burned house down. Thought to be armed. Schools closed and telling people not to go out. My wife keeps texting me to get out of here lol. Nah , I’ll make that scumbag drag my deer

  8. So, in this "Q&A" it says you CAN be arrested..... That's not true. Either way. This is why I only trespass with Moog. No, not cause he's a lawyer.... Cause I can run faster. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  10. A half mile East of Moog ... my buddies backyard today, he thought it was going to walk right up to him , he said he could have stabbed it . These are screen pic of a video he sent me , I don’t know how to post the video . I’d lie to see the one that broke off his G2 on the left side .......

  11. I get that they are volunteers, but I think their last sentence is not what someone who called them wants to hear at a time like this. It's like someone calling on a doctor only to be told that they should go out and get a medical degree.

  13. Hardest parts getting them up there then it’s way easier than dragging, when you’re ready for a break just sit on a log or stump so you don’t have to keep getting them on there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Mentee Hany has been at it for many hours on stand with a bow with no success and then switched to a rifle for regular season. Mentor Brian put him in a stand that had a stud of a 5.5 yr old (one the mentor had history with) right in front of his mentee. Hany like the Eric and Jimmie made the shot count!

  20. I don't see you carrying a gun in that pic! Now I gotta kill it with my bare hands AND carry it out on my shoulders......Shit I need to step it up!!

  21. If they’re under 180ish lbs and it’s not wet I carry mine as much as possible. 4.5hr drag is no joke! But what else in the world is better than dragging a big buck? I can’t say I enjoy dragging but if I’m dragging that means I just did what I love to do so there not much else I would rather be doing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Cynthia, if you found bone fragments, I'm 99% sure it was a leg hit. Definitely bullet could have gone to chest cavity before or after taking out the leg. Wish I felt a bit better, I would come down to help with a dog. Don't give up. That sounds like a dead deer. Sending luck. And thanks to Bill for being a great stand up guy, and hunter\sportsman.

  24. Good luck to you and Bill. Have one of you stand at last spot on one side of the water and the other person search the other side until you find it. Then rejoin and continue the track. Keep your gun loaded and ready! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. You should have called Nomad - he loves it! Personally, I would be calling someone with an ATV. I would rather drive home, grab trailer and ATV and go back than drag for 4.5hrs or even 30min.

  27. A fourth mentee almost scored. My mentee Steve got to come out with me Saturday evening on opening day. He showed up when we had a family and friends hunter lunch get together outside at the farm shop. Just so happened neighbor took a respectable 8 pointer. The whole group watched the whole hunt from across the valley with binos and spotting scopes. I slapped together a pair of shooting sticks for him at the shop then went to my personal spot. Saw deer while traveling farm road to get there. We got to the spot and saw group of doe way in woods later in the sit. One young adult doe came in at 50+ yards for at least 20 minutes. We were above it on the ground. Being new to shooting a gun and hunting he couldn't get settled whenever the doe was clear of trees or brush and broadsided. Eventually it bedded in some brush until end of legal light. Cold and nerves were getting to him. He was shaking real good. He really enjoyed it. Next outing I'll have him in a popup blind more comfortable. He's hoping to free up his schedule to get back out this weekend. I pulled trail cam cards and had a nice 4.5 yr old just on the other side of the wood lot from where I set him up. I'll post up more as the hit the dirt.

  31. Ok so the drag out took about 4.5 hours. @Buckmaster7600 just earned a new level of respect for what he's able to do in the mountains. After this ordeal I'm thinking that future deer might get packed out piece by piece when I'm this far from the car. Time for a shower and a nap.

  33. OK. I just can't hold it in anymore. Anyone else just laugh their butts off when someone refers to anything below Poughkeepsie as "Upstate" ? That whole area south of there is the city in my book. lol

  34. Ballz. Heard foot steps off my left shoulder. 25 yards to Then 20 in super thick stuff. All I could see is a foot , nose and throat patch. Deer stood there for 7-10 minutes not moving. Still couldn’t make out what it was. Rifle hanging in tree. I slowly grab .44 out of chest rig. Wind blowing perfect. Cmon , step out and let me see what you are. Takes one step sideways and jumps , no tail up. Huge body and big rack. No shot. I grunted but he’s gone. Dang it. Here’s pic of crap he was in.

  37. I hunted the last three days hard on state land 3m. In the past three days I have seen at least 30-40 rubs some very large from this year most looking like the last couple weeks. Yesterday was the only sit I didn't see anything so I decided to change it up and hike straight up the mountain as high as I could go. At about 3:30 I heard a shot that seemed to come exactly where I was sitting yesterday, all week I have had the mountain to myself and was unaware somebody was in there today (parking lot empty when I got there). So I did see a doe at last light but didn't have a shot and didn't want to drag a doe a couple miles with meat in the freezer and a couple weeks to go. At about four o'clock I caught a glimpse about 350 yards downhill of an orange vest and on my way out a truck pulled in right as I was arriving. Long story short small world my brothers friend shot a 10 point in the exact spot I sat yesterday doah! Young guy deserved it, he hunted bow in the area and to my surprise when he saw my suv he accessed the land lower so he wouldn't screw me up. Really nice young local guy so good for him, he said there is a huge 9 point back in the same area so I will go back to that area when I have the chance next week. He said he was going to send me a picture when I get it I will update what could have been.

  40. Sounds to me like your burning out yourself and the property. Give it a week or couple week break to recharge yourself and the land. I dont get out even a fraction of the hours you have logged, but i still give the land a break for a week or two if i put in a few days of hunting. Seems to work for me., but then again doesnt take much to educate deer on 40 acres. Even if i dont educate the deer, i like to give my property a break for other deer to ease back in.

  41. Maybe in bye gone days people took the liberty to hunt any land they didn't see a posted sign on. The world was different then, but in this day and age I just can't understand how anyone would think it's OK to hunt a piece of property like that. Simply not the right thing to do to trample on land that you know is private without the permission of the owner. I don't care what the technicalities in the law are.

  42. upstate is an irrelevant term. To me, there's: Long Island NYC SENY ADK's/North Country CNY WNY All of them have their shitholes; all of them have their nice areas.

  43. Adirondack trip was a success. 6-8” of snow the night before I got there. Tracks all over. Started big tracks 3 mornings in a row, but lost them all by noon in heavy feeding areas where deer were digging up beech nuts. Saw 15 does and fawns through the 3rd day and videoed crotch horn at end of 3rd day. Tracked a buck 4th morning and jumped him, stopped and called him back in. 2 year old 7 point came stalking back with hair on end and ears pinned, looking for a fight. Videoed him as he circled me within 30 yards. Found a huge fresh track a little while later, kept getting closer, new I was really close when his track stepped in mine 20 minutes after I’d just stepped there. 3-400 yards later there was a nice buck standing broadside at 20 yards. Heart shot, he didn’t go far. Turned out to be a nice 3 year old 9 point. However, when I later followed up the original track I found where that track took off running 30-40 yards from where I shot. Long story short, I shot a different buck than I was tracking. What stings is I was so darned close to the big buck... As my brother found me, built a fire while waiting for a ride back to camp. Track of the buck I was tracking:

  44. Sorry, but that's not the way it should be done. If I was the landowner of that property I wouldn't have gone berserk on you, but at the same time would not have granted you permission either. If you want to ask for permission to hunt someones land it should probably be well before the season and most definitely NOT in the type of situation you just described. If you want to hunt it should be done properly, not by just jumping out of your car, ringing the landowners bell to ask for permission and then taking shots at the deer that just happen to be standing around.

  45. Rule #1. Never let anyone search your vehicle. He is NOT looking for something GOOD. He is looking for something bad, to bust you on. Plain & simple. His goal is to bust you. You didn't get a certificate of good behavior for the stop. You didn't get an award you can hang on the wall for following all the rules. He is not looking for something to compliment you on. He is looking to write tickets, and enforce every trivial law. Rule #2. take off all orange & camo when driving home. No need to be stopped unnecessarily. He might have been nice, but had you had a deer, the 10 questions would have been 100 questions.
