IS it going to be wet heavy snowfall, or light and fluffy stuff before rising temps? -

Not looking forward to it at all! The first 5 days I have to share a property I manage and take absolute care for in respect to the Landowner. This group of guys/girls come from PA and trash the place, walk all over it, drive deer and shoot anything that moves, good shot opportunity or not. Wounding and missing more than they harvest, on top of that they lie about everything. But they randomnly show up the night before at the Land owners house whom is quite old, and stay there for 5 days. I leave this situation alone to not ruin my permissions, since im sure he enjoys the company being all alone in his home. But They've even stolen some of my cameras before. And as luck would have it, My #1 and #2 bucks have been active and pattern able this rut more than ever before. For several years now I dread opening weekend/week because of these people. Its a touchy subject. lol At this point i am looking forward to the first few hours Saturday, and late season .. -
Does it hold water? Or just stay moist or mud?

So sorry for your loss. Your father sounds like an incredible man.

I always felt if it is scoped, as long as one isnt applying extreme pressure or torque to the stock it should shoot the same or darn near the same for everyone. Unscoped guns would definitely be different since alot of people use open sights differently My question is, have you ever shoulder a scoped gun that is setup for someone else, and to you the crosshairs are not level and turned one way or the other? But for them they are perfectly level? It just seems wierd..

My Camp isnt what it used to be, No one is around anymore to enjoy opening weekend of gun season like we used to. I sure do miss it, the jokes, the beers, the comaradarie was just a blast. We would always cook up a ton of chili, goulash, lasagna you name it. The second night was either left overs or a Trip down to Bins Bins Chinese Buffet in Bath.. That place was the best around. We always made sure we got there almost everytime we went down.. I miss those days like crazy, I only like 20minutes from camp now so i just travel back and forth. I will say not having so many people around sucks, but the hunting has gotten soo much better..

could be a bad alternator. I have a brand new one in my dodge 2500 as well as a new battery. And my alternator will stop working when a truck sits at idle in gear. Like at a stop light. touch the accelerator and it functions"more properly" I just haven't had the time to replace it. But its definetly a bad alt. Id say your alternator is weak, or you have a ground/connection issue. Something is drawing power unless your Alt is just not charging your battery. Check the terminal clamps, they may not be tight enough around the terminals. -
I used to get buck fever bad when i was younger. If it wasnt for Buck Fever I would have a dozen slammers on the wall. I mostly missed but there was 3 that I hit "good" but never found. Memories ill never forget that I have since learned from greatly... Practice as much as possible on and off of season. When i shot the most throughtout the year, i felt the most confident. Since i like to over think things sometimes.. One thing i have done that helps incredibly once you determine you are going to attempt a shot opportunity. Build yourself a fast quick mental checklist. and Breathe! deep breaths. Dont hold your breath. lol Its a bit different with Xbow compared to Vertical bows, since you have to build a steady and constant form. But build yourself a quick mental checklist that you can run through in the matter of a second or two. And dont look at the antlers again.. For me with archery its, Range, draw, find my thumb at the back of my jaw bone and first knuckle under my ear. line peep up with site housing and breathe.. release when ready..

Not sure, but i have a few deer on cam that look like they visit that corn pile daily lol l

I know I need to find a nice lever action gun. The 4570 Henry I won is way too nice to take out on a less than ideal day. unless its a beautiful day. It stays indoors lol. But what a sweet smooth shooting gun. Kicks like a 22 cal. Light and short. I was offered 2k offer on the spot when I won it. Politely turned it down.. I was thinking a newer not as nice 44mag, 444 or 35 Rem.

Ive heard about it in others Barnett Xbows too. Including a good friend of mine.

I know how to hold and grow bigger deer. Thats pretty simple. What i was saying is, many people if given the chance will fill both buck tags, then bitch the following year or years later that they dont see the bucks they'd like to see. I Should have proof read that one before posting. my bad... You also have to remember, probably 1/3 or more of hunters dont report their harvests either. And those are usually the ones who will break any law in front of them As mentioned earlier .. Shoot what makes you happy. And dont let others tell you how to hunt.

Thoughts on a possible Re-barrel??
LET EM GROW replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Will do. Thank you. Hoping once deer season is done Ill be setup and ready to reload after the 1st of the year. -
I agree, I should have also mentioned, the person ticketed was getting ticketed for other reasons also, so Im sure that got thrown in there just to add to the fines. Since losing mine 3 times and finding it 2 out of the 3x. I now keep the goodies in my wallet, and the back tag in my zipped/buttoned pockets. I hunt private land and rarely see any DEC at our place.

What a difference between 2 deer

Definitely looks sick. Id be surprised if he makes it too far into winter.. -
IVe lost my tags before a few years back. Must be when i was in stand with my back against the tree, it pushed the pin out of its clip and lost everything. Not the first time its happened.. I ended up shooting a deer afterwards and had zero tag to put on or proof. I was a little scared to say the least. My buddy and I ran to Walmart and got my tags re printed. I think it was 5 dollars a piece or something they charged me. I believe it cost me 15$ to get all my unused tags back if i remember correctly. But by the reg book it states to have it on your back at all times, and i have heard people getting warning from the DEC when its on their bags, or in their pockets.

Started following them this year as well. My next episode is Teds giant.. I do enjoy following them. If you notice i think only one of them is married, and hes only in a 1/4 of the hunts it seems. That was one of the very first things i said, was for how much they hunt and scout they must be single. lol. But like anything else and esp if it pays the bills, the more you put in the more you get out typically

I had to drive to work at 2am this morning. Man what an awesome ride in that was. Bucks and does everywhere! I love those early morning rides to work during the Rut. I even had 2 book bucks fighting over a doe in the middle of Route 20A between Honeoye and Bristol! I stopped and watched with my headlights not 20ft away . They didnt give 2 chits about me being there whatsoever..

By nobody your talking about you and your neighbors i take it? I will gladly shoot a mature buck with poor genes, over a genetically inclined 2 yr old any day of the week. Even if it was the difference 50" or more of antler. Antlers dont mean anything to me really, maybe a little but not much. It gets easier every year to pass deer. Especially if you can offer them what they need to survive on the property you hunt.. I have some neighbors that offer everything a deer needs to survive as well, and amongst them all some will shoot anything with antlers, some will only shoot 6pts or better, other who wait for 2 yr olds, some others wait 3 yr olds or better like myself. But the fact that across several hills of adjoining properties, there is some sort of management being practiced. We notice more deer in older age classes.
-
With you for the most part, but you should probably eliminate the point restriction. And try to focus more on age class. Education is key, everything whitetail, body language, habits, etc... In 2006 I started out the season by telling myself i will hold out for whatever would be my biggest buck to date, I ended up taking 2 bucks that year that were my biggest to date. a 2 and a 3yr old. Since then ive kept the age limit minimum to 3.5years or older only. Unless injured etc.. It makes for a long season, but i am usually rewarded with an opportunity every year at a wall worthy buck. I just need to do my part. As logn as i let the young bucks walk, spent the right amount of time, in the right places at the right times, the odds were always slightly in my favor. I Had a bad case of buck fever throughout those years, when it came down to it and instead of having 4 bucks on the wall. There should really be 11. I Lost 2, and missed the rest.. One must be willing to go without filling a buck tag if one wants to be successful in growing bigger deer. 2015 was the last year i took a buck, 2016 no opportunities and 2017 i missed my #1 by misjudging yardage. a buck ive chased since 2012!!

Sure they do, but a grazed hit with either will leave about the same type of damage with the same type of results..
