I usually dont bring anything to snack on unless im sitting the majority of the day. But if i do, usually its water, a clif bar/granola bar, an apple and maybe some jerky. I dont normally get the pleasure of long sits much anymore having young kids at home

They usually didnt eat mine until a couple of frosts. I tasted some of the greens in that blend and they were actually quite sweet in taste.

Nice, Which Barnes is this? Plastic tip or the Hollow point?

My Mossberg Rifled barrel loved Remington copper solids. They were the first box i tried and I had no reason to try anything else for how good they shot.

If you can Move it mid day do it now and if you can do so without disturbing the area, then no need to wait to hunt it. . Unless you disturb the spot pretty good (cutting a bunch of branches, leaving your scent all over, etc..) Or end up sticking out like a sore thumb.. go hunt it. Ive hung and hunted same day.. no issues. As long as the wind was in my favor and if i didnt have to cut a lot of branches. They will smell branches that have been cut.. The fresh cut saw dust and fresh cuts on trees are very noticeable to a deer esp if the wind is in their favor.

Used to watch most all of em.. Now I cant stand most any of them! Ill watch a Baseball game and maybe the occasional football game. Id almost rather watch my kids cartoons then any sports game anymore.. Bunch of overpaid drama queens .. Its not the same as it used to be..

Thanks everyone.

Thanks fellas.. Ive had great accuracy from the 250gr Shockwaves, and they do look identical to the Smackdowns.. And seems blood trails are hit or miss with most. I will say the damage under the rib cage is pretty explosive with these. Ill shoot these up for now. I did notice a big price difference between these and the barnes bullets. For now i guess ill stick with the bullets I have and that have worked.. Just going to switch to Blackhorn 209 powder.. probably 100gr charge What is the difference in a crush rib sabot vs a standard sabot?

Just checked, Guess I have a full box of 250gr Shockwaves and a full box of 250gr Traditions Smackdown bullets still. I was thinking of switching to the 250 or 280gr Barnes Expander Spitifre if i did try new.. Since i have 2 boxes of plastic tip bullets. Maybe its a normal thing to not get much of a blood trail with these plastic tip bullets? Or maybe i should slow them down a bit. If i remember right, which isnt easy to do.. I think when i shot (2) pellets instead of (3) my wound channels and blood trails were slightly better. I think.. been probably 6 or 7 years since i upped powder charge.. Anyhow, i plan to use the ML almost all of Gun season like I used to do when i was younger and rifles weren't legal yet. Had a ton of faith in my Omega when I used to tote it everytime..

What bullet and weight is everyone shooting and the powder you as well please.. I always shot (3) 50gr Triple 7 pellets.. After reading here about the Blackhorn 209.. I am going to switch powders and test the waters.. I also shoot the 250gr T/C Shockwaves. They always shot very accurate for me, but I have only had 1 good blood trail since using them.. Luckily I saw most fall after being shot, some dropped, some took off a ways and some didnt go far.. I want to reach out to 200yrds accuratley .. as my triple 7 and 250 gr shockwaves did this with ease.. If it matters.. both my ML are T/C.. an Omega, and a Triumph. TIA

Didnt take a picture of the mess, but i checked a cam Last week and a bear had found it a few days before i got to it.. It was twisted around the back of the tree, strap loosened up and kind of dangling off the tree.. Love getting their pics but hate when they find the camera. Luckily, the browning still works!

Couple of my buddies have this xbow. A good friend of mine deals them. They have all been very happy with theirs.

I do scent free on my out layers, and use dead down wind spray when i feel necessary .. My inner layers get washed with normal clothes wash. I just try not to stink like i used to back in high School when i thought certain fragrances brought the ladies in running lol..
-
I try to circle around them as far away as possible... down wind if possible.. And act like you dont even see them. Some times you can get right around them. As always stated they usually see you before you see them. IMO act like you could car eless about them, avoid them and carry on and dont do it too slowly..

I went across an open freshly planted dirt field last spring trying to get on roosted birds, running a few minutes later than i had planned. I could just start to make colors out as the day woke.. I looked to my left and saw what i thought was a deer approaching me quick, glanced to my right and saw 2 more, approaching me quick.. Still thinking they were deer for some reason that just hadnt noticed me yet.. They got to less than twenty yards and bolted.. as they ran spooked i could then tell that they were in fact not deer lol. Scare me? not at all, kinda of thought it was cool actually. It would be fun to hunt them in shorts and tshirts.. but its just as much fun doing it after during and deer season as well. I have a good number of song dogs at my camp. We have taken 1 so far this year already..

Cant speak for Barnett, but I emailed Ruger Arms a week ago about a magazine issue in my 22 250.. I got the automatic email stating they will contact me shortly. Havent heard anything yet. Ill wait a bit longer and call in a week or two if i dont hear anything. Im not in a big hurry but would like a fix.. Im sure its not the easiest or quickest when one company supports a world full of people.. Only reason i contacted them was cause i heard they would fix the issue for free since it seems to be a re occurring issue.. Hope they contact you in the near future..

I feel your pain! Had one in the walls of one my old houses. One day i found him inside the house running around, I opened the door to the garage and chased him out.. after never being able to catch him before then... I got lucky and he ran right into a tied fishing hook from one of my poles.. caught him by the neck lol.. The rest was history after finishing him off.. What a relief!

The only reason i might not hunt when its that warm out is for the fact that I can never usually process a deer immediately after. And i dont not have a cooler to put it in yet. If i did, Id be out there.

Exactly, If i hide my "Black Flash" cams well.. I can usually fool the 2 old guys i have roaming the hill.. But if i dont, they'll pick it out before walking in front of it and avoid it. And I'll never get their pic there again if at all, unless they are trailing a hot doe. Only exception ive noticed for these 2 bucks in the last 4 or 5 years is that if the camera is near camp at all, it doesnt seem to bother them as much. They seem to feel very comfortable in my backyard at camp since no one is really ever around.. Heres a pic from last week of one of them, this cam is 15ft from the back porch of my camp.. And sticks out in the middle of the yard. Any where else away from camp, this wouldn't fly.. lol

I made a couple on the edges of transitions, as they funnel into the food plots this year, and one on the beginning of a food plot entrance... I used it more of an eye sore to pick their curiosity .. a random tree with a cluster of branches hangin off one side... Theyll either run, or come check it out IMO.. I also used a piece of hemp rope and dangeled it out into a trail. Almost every doe that walks by it checks it out.. Its my first year doing Mock scrapes... So we will see.

I have had a pretty bad year for good bucks on trail cam this season. But after doing a drive around.. They are definitely there. IT mostly depends on where the best food source is and good bedding from summer through this time of year. Though in the next week or so the buck traffic will pick up no doubt. As they focus more on territory and the local doe herd. They could possibly got hunted hard last year, but I doubt it. I used to thnk the same way.. they are there.. Just be ready.. the woods can be so unpredictable at any time.. I normally do not get a ton of good velvet pics but once mid October rolls around.. Buck traffic steadily climbs.
-
Got tons of bears on cam this year.. And the 2 color phase bears keep showing up! I went for walk yesterday, and forgot to bring my piece with me.. that is all i could think of not having it on me.. Getting bear pics every couple days it seems. On almost every cam..

Luna and Kunox's Tracking Journal 2018
LET EM GROW replied to outdoorstom's topic in General Hunting
Yes sir, Totally agree. Ive lost a few very good bucks due to not knowing how to track properly for deer hit not so perfectly.. that would have succumbed if left alone etc.. Hate to say it but i learned the hard way. But at least I know now, and give all due respect to the game i pursue.. I Used a tracking dog and his owner once before myself. -
Thanks Bob! I will go through it all.. By looking at a few of these.. I wish i had dimensions for them all. I could easily make most of these at work. Maybe I will after i pick everything up. Design and draw up some prints for each. I dont do a ton of shooting, i would like to someday when the kids get a little bigger. but for now its mainly sight in and hunt. I will probably load the most for 6.5cm, and 22.250, 223
