  1. It will only get better with time. Leave it several years and you will have great deer cover w food in soft willow and other bush species deer love to eat. Sure it can be hard to spot them in there, but your property will hold deer. Some of the best deer stands I had overlooked a grown up field that had goldenrod and brush. The deer like to bed there, and will mill around during the day feeling secure.
  2. I leave mine be for at least 3 weeks, sometimes longer. If it's a new camera, I wash the strap and let the whole camera air out for a few weeks before I set it up. Also wash cloths and shower in scent free when going to an area I have a cam.
  3. Two beauties, hope you harvest one.
  4. I sit long hours and do several all day sits in a season. I simply am thinking about deer movement. Thinking about what my next few stand moves will be and what the weather will do. I bring binos and look for deer, watch the wildlife and just relax and enjoy the time doing what I love to do. That is, be in the woods during deer season. I see the outings as an adventure, a challenge and an opportunity. I'm sure everyone views their time in the woods differently, but that's the view from my tree.
  5. That buck has some mass. I like the way his beams stretch out over his nose.
  6. I'm very sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you and your family.
  7. I picked up a Browning Dark OPS last year, set it to video mode and was really impressed with the quality. I picked up a second one over the winter on sale. They seem to be a solid camera all the way around.
  8. Mine is aluminum, not sure what brand. Once you get the deer secured w chords or rope it is a breeze moving the deer as compared to dragging. I also use it to transport a heavy stand set up which includes a large hang on with climbing sticks. My cart is used all year around the yard to move things as well so it was a good investment.
  9. Some real nice bucks there for sure.
  10. Been there a few times on public land. I use the python locks and have one lockbox I use as well. Anything that close to the road is more of a target so you have to take precautions. Then there's the option of setting up a well hidden camera up in a tree pointing at the visible camera to see if you can catch the jerk. Could be time consuming.
  11. I've come close to doing that a few times but keep a journal now with 7 cams out different areas.
  12. Nice that they can make it through the years and put on the mass.
  13. Nice looking deer there. I like the high n heavy racks!
  14. I do 5-7 all day sits a year and look forward to them. It takes some planning but is well worth the effort. I usually sit in the same stand sun up to sundown but can think of a few times I moved due to wind changes or poor movement. Having a good spot, a heater body suit to stay warm and food n water along with a 5hr energy drink helps.
  15. I scout a lot right after the season and out shed hunting and scouting into May. Then I usually relax a bit during June and July, but it's August and I'm planning again! Touching up shooting lanes in current stands, putting up new ones and shooting the bow daily. Trail camera numbers are getting back to full deployment and scouting a little too. I have a couple of bean fields I need to sneak up on in the evenings to glass as well. What's everyone else up to? GM
  16. Great photos of mama a and cubs.
  17. I've noticed and have had 2 deer collisions in early June over the last few years along with some other close calls. This year all the dead deer on the road side I've seen were female, so I'd have to agree with the doe alienation theory.
  18. I heard a few birds gobble on the roost last night on state land and heard more gobbling like crazy this am. Things seem to be heating up.
  19. I've taken many toms in my day, and turkey hunting is just a lot of fun. But the past few years I don't have a big desire to kill one for some reason. I still go out and scout, get up early to listen quite often before season and during. I like to scout for a couple friends and go out with them, but often end up just running a camera although I do take my shotgun. I don't mind getting up at 3:30, love being out in the woods and watching it get light out, hearing all the different birds, seeing wild flowers and just watching spring unfold is awesome. I guess I think turkeys are beautiful birds and would just rather engage with them, but not blast them. I even have a tom out behind my house that gobbles most mornings and even gobbles when he's roosting quite a few nights. Hearing him gobble almost daily brings more joy to me than going out and shooting him would so I have yet to go after him, although I've thought about it a few times. The past few weekends I've gone fishing for wild browns and walleye's. Will I go out and shoot a tom this season? I might, because I do enjoy the challenge of turkey hunting as well.
  20. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. My condolences to you and his family.
  21. It's hard to lose weight now that I'm over 50 but it can be done. After a few months of not losing much weight I got serious and did some reading on the subject. What has helped me is calorie counting and making a lifestyle change in what I eat. A body burns so many calories a day. I finally figured out that, if I eat fewer calories than my body burns I will lose weight! I know that sounds simple, but it's not. I write down everything I eat and keep track of my intake. I also quit all sugar, bread, soda ect and mainly eat protein. I drink a lot of water and tea too. I walk every day, do sit ups and other core work, lift weights a few times a week and started jogging too. Muscle burns fat, plain and simple. I am trimming down, feel stronger and just feel better all the way around. I still drink a few beers a day and enjoy really good food, but it's healthier food and less of it. I also take one day a week to eat what ever I want but I can't pack in the large amounts because my stomach is smaller and my brain just says, "dude, you don't need all that".
  22. This person things a bobcat would go after a dog? or be so aggressive towards a human in the same area that it would "show his teeth, snarl at you, and block your path to walk forward." Maybe if it's rabid or something.
  23. A turkey opener on the weekend with light winds and a little rain. I'll be out with full rain gear, set up near an area where a few toms roost. The birds will be headed to the fields and it should be fun. The rain will get the leaves nice and quite, which will help if one needs to relocate and make a move on a bird. Good luck and be safe everyone.
