NYBuckHunter27
Whats everyone's opinions for scopes on muzzle loaders...what size and what scopes to be specific? I have a BDC reticle on my CVA optima now but i don't use the reticle as advertised, simply because i don't shoot past 100 yrds with the gun, looking into a new scope for the 2014 season. Jeremy K
I shoot a 3-9x40 on my Apex , i did cheap out on the scope . I am planning to put a bushnell elite on before the next season opens. I put an Elite on my 30-06 barrel with the 600DOA reticle and it works amazing . I also only really take 100 yard shots so i don't see the need for a drop comp. reticle on the front loader. Lawdwaz
Not much difference from a accurate slug gun, center fire rifle or a ML to me. A 2.5-8 VariXIII sits on my ML. 2-7 VariXII sits on the 'Ol slug gun and my rifles are 2.5-8VX3 and 3.5-10VariXIII. A 2-7 or 3-9 is more than sufficient for anything we'll ever hunt. Or, as will so be pointed out a fixed 4x or 6x could also be perfecto.............. Lots of great manufacturers to choose from these days but I'm still groovin' the Leupold line.

moog5050
I have a Hi Lux TB MZ scope in 3-9x40. Great scope for the money. Very clear optics and seems to hold 0 great. I would highly recommend it.
nyslowhand
IMHO, when shooting big game at distances less than 100yds, field of view and reticle style become more important than magnification. I like my Leupold 4X fixed power scope for these >100yd shots with a T\C Triumph. What's the sense of having a BDC style scope if you're shooting at distances less then what it's zeroed in for..? Also, maybe a variable scope that's always set at lower mags isn't really the better option..? You do pay more for the variable mag option! Things you have to consider before purchasing a new scope for possibly a very specific hunting situation. My choice of a scope goes with the disclaimer that I'd never be hunting in the future in longer range situations. Lot of good ML scopes available w/o destroying the hunting budget! Tons of reviews and suggestions on the web!
fasteddie
I put a 1 1/2 X 4 on my NEF Huntsman in-line . Shorter scope than a 3 X 9 and works well for me .

I would highly recommend it. good prices on these scopes and i wouldn't mind the silver matte on my CVA Accura. just skepticical while looking at them because i have never heard of the name before...But you say they are durable? dbHunterNY
My Nikon Omega works pretty well using the BDC or not. it doesn't get much better, it being your standard 3-9x40mm scope. whatever it is you pick you want it to be dependable and hold its zero. muzzleloaders can have a bit of recoil. more of a push than kick but there can be a lot there.
sbuff
Not a fan of bdc scopes myself, be sure to get something with good eye relief and good warranty.

Only had it one year, but it seems like a great scope and the optics are excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
WNYBuckHunter
I use Vortex scopes with Mil Dot reticules. Helps me judge holdover the way I like to. I run a 2.5-10x44 on my ML.

turkeyfeathers
My muzzy has a Bushnell Elite 3x9x40, firefly reticle ,rainguard on it. Gathers quite a bit of light. Love the Firefly option in low light . Crystal clear view as well. Of maybe 8 scopes, nightvision monocular, red dots, 2 pairs of binocs all but 1 are Bushnell. I like there higher end optics. eagle rider
Got a Bushnell new Trophy with the circle reticle 3-9 on my Prohunter. I like the reticle because it's fast targeting.
adkbuck
I have my Thompson Omega topped with a Nikon Omega 1.65-5X36. I love the scope, large exit pupil at low power enables you to get on target fast. Sadly I think they only make then 3-9X now.
RickF
I have an LHR Redemption with a Leupold 2-7 Ultimate Slam. I really like the Ultimate Slam as I have used it on my Omega as well. Just a reminder that the parallax on a muzzleloader/shotgun specific scope is 75 yards as opposed to 100 yards or more for a standard rifle scope.
