So I'm ironing and I hear an engine...Well there has been a ton of traffic up here...God only knows why!...but then the crunching of the gravel in drive. Now it's been a few minutes and I look out to see a car through the tree branches sitting at the end of the drive 20ft in. It's there long enough for me to decide to go out..Angel has been watching them from the front window. I step out and they leave...go down to the road and walk to the hills crest...there they are ,but now on the side other side of the road facing to come up the hill and stopped. Angel and I start down the side of the road and they start slowly backing up...now I'm kinda getting ticked...they hit the hunting camps drive and shoot in to it...now he has a very soft steep drive and I pick up my pace...next thing I know the car pops up out of his drive not stopping to see if any cars are coming and speeds down the road. I'm so bad about car makes..think Chevy no plate # they stayed far enough away I couldn't even make out the driver...smaller than my Marqi and champagne colored....So I'll not be leaving for a few days and have to call sheriffs today and see if there have been any problems...

So I called...happen to get one just back from NYC and could tel me if there was any issues...but he did scold me...  For not calling right away...

Thing is there are so many nut jobs around if I called every time some one acted strange I'd be on the phone several times a week...I need to pick and choose the craziest, go with my gut feelings. I have called and they have found break ins...I've called and it was subcontractors without lettering on the vans...I explained to him I have ppl that stop to pee in the road...get better cell reception...take pictures and scope out potential hunting never mind the posted sign lined road. Plus I know everyone on the hill is home during the day except the camp and he has NOTHING to steal....

Set up some game camera's on your driveway, mounted high so they are out of reach.  At bare minimum you should get a license plate and possible make and model.  Keep the binoculars in an easy access spot for quick viewing.  Security camera system would be ideal.

Get as many broken game camera's that you can find and point them all on your property line facing the road with a few of them having a working camera to see who steals them.  Print posted signs that state the entire property is now covered in security camera's with most of them being hidden except the one's on the street.

Many times when people think big brother is watching it keeps them honest.

That sucks Grow!  Hope they where just lost!

I found just walking out side and shooting several rounds from a rife or 12 ga, seems to make people move again on the road. There is no reason to go past my house on my road as I am last on it... anyone going by is up to no good unless it the last camp on the road and I know his vehicles

I get these kinds of "visits all the time. We have a long driveway, with an offset down at the beginning so that the house cannot be seen from the highway out front. For some reason a lot of people just can't resist what looks like a single lane country road heading back into the base of the hill, and they just have to drive up to see what's there. I think it is all quite innocent curiosity, but who really knows? It absolutely could be people with some sort of malicious intent. It certainly is not unheard of out this way.

I believe that rural crimes will eventually escalate in numbers when the creeps of the world realize just how isolated we rural people really are. I am a good 20 minutes from any law enforcement headquarters. Pretty much, I am my only protection or law enforcement that is available in any practical sense. In our case, we are well armed and quite capable of defending ourselves as long as we are aware of any sort of intrusion attempts, but there definitely is a vulnerability here if careful scouting and execution were to be used for an armed intrusion.

I keep saying it over and over and yet keep procrastinating...... I do need a good alarm system.

Thanks for the ideas guys...ya, I now have a difficult time getting too excited over this stuff...may be my down fall one day, but I can't worry about all those "one days" all of the time. We actually have a great alarm system in the dogs...Angel will remain quiet until someone actually appears close to the house then...Well she has scared me a few times with her response. The boys...The roofers summed them up nicely...They sound pretty viscous out there. I said at 130#'s  they can be..nuff said. When they bark I know someone is at the house no matter where on the property I am I can hear them. Again one needs to break that, your now intruding thresh hold before any of them sound off.

When We first moved here I knew being back in the woods could be a problem and Mr B left the next day to work in Colorado. Work for what we figured would be a couple of years. Having two small kids security was important...So I blocked off access to the farmers field from the end of our drive...He seemed to think using our drive was OK...I explained why it wasn't and he understood. The drainage ditches blocked it from the road...then I planted pines on the only other way in other than the drive...and fruit trees and fence all along the front. The gully in the middle does the rest. So if robbers wanted anything big the only way in is the straight drive to the house with a vehicle. They could walk in but again would you trust the deep growls and baritone barks of dogs in the dark ...not to be loose dogs? Lady our last protector...would lay in wait under the porch...she never barked but would lunge out from under that decking in front of any one headed to the door...I or they only had to worry if she growled once stopping the person...She handled yells and all out screams pretty well. In all her life never bit a person except Mr B...late airport pick up he was jet lagged and didn't come to bed until 3am...She was my alarm and slept at my feet...he had not been home for a couple of months and reached to turn back his side of covers...in the dark...she never barked just put a hole through his hand with the bite..He was mad but never worried about us after that.Everyone in the country should have a good dog or two...

We have been talking about a driveway alarm  but the deer use our drive all of the time and I fear we'd never get a full nights sleep again.

No We own both sides of the road and behind us to another gully....Working farm field next to us and hunting camp on the the side of us. Still can't say it creeped me out...just annoyed...Mr. B's a little worried...but he doesn't really have a feel for the crazys that pop up, because I'm here daily. When I have had past concerns I pull the car out and then park the tractor between the 2 big Maples that are at the gullies culvert pipe  blocking the drive half way down and chain one of the boys to the deck  near the door when I leave.
