Verizon Fios

I'm pissed right now at Verizon.....they pulled the plug on our DSL and phone line the other day in an attempt at (successful too) luring us to Fios.  I battled with them on Friday and then agreed to go with Fios for the phone and Internet. The sales guy said I'd have my DSL up and running by midnight Friday.  It ain't .......

I bitched like all heck at them on Sunday and one lady said "gee, once we pull the plug there's no going back".  I told her the guy the day before assured me it'd be back up and running that night and my phone would also be working. She said impossible........

she sent me over to somebody else who said "oh, we will have you up by 9pm Saturday".  It wasn't and isn't!

They really are a horrendous outfit..........

That said, me time is limited here but rest assured, (in my best Arnold voice) "I'LL BE BACK!!!"

Pretty sure this is everyone's hot button, cable companies & cell phone providers! Problem I have is that they basically shove crap down your throat and charge a small fortune for mediocre &/or unwanted services. Oh yeah, their customer service is a literal joke ...!!! Then the govt steps in to try and help the consumers w/o a clue as to what to do!! Pretty sure there is a huge lobbying effort against any deregulation and lots of pockets getting lined.

Anyone been following the recent intervention by the govt (FCC?) into the TV cable box requirement & monthly leasing fees? Seems to be a fairly straight-forward issue, at least in my feeble mind! Has turned into a political fiasco and battle with the TV cable providers. Typical!!!! Deep breath, inhale, exhale, happy thoughts, blood pressure down....!

Yep....They all suck. I went round and round one time with a Verizon sales person who was trying to get us to switch from time Warner. When the dust settled and the smoke cleared they saved me a whopping 5 bucks a month for a year....And in fine print it jumped in price for year two! That's when I politely told them to shove it and stop wasting my time. I need to square away an alternative streaming device...And just cut the cord!

Kills me they charge you for a service..then tell you you have to rent their equipment in order to receive that service...we bought our own better routers but that's crazy..Lol...Oh if you want DSL you have to pay a phone service as well...Why? It's the same dang line...just charge me for what's being used through that line..it's blk mail...:mda:

I've had FIOS for a few years and luckily haven't had too many issues with them.

I do think FIOS internet is a whole lot better than cable (Time Warner, Cablevision etc.).

That being said I know I've got a fight in front of me as my current agreement is coming to an end and it's time to renew. My gripe with FIOS is they offer new customers ridiculous deals but play stupid hard to get games with existing customers. Hopefully I can find a rational rep who will work with me instead of forcing me to cancel service and then sign up as a new customer again...

I got sick of paying a total of $170 a month for cable and internet so I ditched cable bought a amazon fire stick with netflix and Hulu. I still watch everything I watched before ditching cable but for $100 less a month. You mostly have to wait to watch a show the day after it airs but considering we never watched live tv anyways its no big deal. The only thing I miss from cable is I cant watch the Sabres games.

Can't do any of that with Hughesnet or Verizon wireless. Draconian data caps.

Data caps!? dang that would suck. My internet is through time warner and they don't have data caps. I did have to upgrade to a higher speed internet to stream everything which cost me an extra $20 a month for internet but considering I was dropping $120+ a month for DirecTV I was ok with that.

Do a little research and figure out how to add Kodi to that fire stick....You will be amazed at what you can stream.

About 5 years ago we got on the FIOS bandwagon, they lulled the same crap. After two weeks of we'll be there such and such, and we're sorry we'll be there tomorrow, I got out the old fashioned phone book and found a corporate number out of NYC. No out sourced calls to CS in bum crap nowhere, live CS that understood English ( sorry, not meant to be racial ). That was at 9AM and by 6PM that evening everything was running and we got two months free. Then they started with that crap of pulling channels, or moving them to the next higher package about a year and a half ago. That was the nail, we switched to TWC.

Now where we are, no Verizon, and no TWC. The best one is Mid Hudson and they stink! We still pay $100 a month and that's just basic ( old school basic, only 20 non digital or HD ) channels, and internet.

It's a joke, all of them.

Mrs Redneck tried talking me into ditching cable for the Fire Stick but being unable to watch my Mets everyday her pleas went unanswered. Needless to say we still pay Time Warner

See Rob that's another good thing of living close to NYC, we get to watch whatever we want on TV, even hunting shows lol

If I want to watch a hunting show, I get my gear together, drive for 10 minutes and be hunting. If I want to go 30 minutes I have 5 public lands to hunt. Best hunting shows on the planet are the ones you live, not watch. No matter if you kill anything.

Not having a ton of TV channels to distract me got me walking the woods more over the summer, and helped me get in a little better shape. Lost 20 lbs. You can have your TV, I will take my "fly-over town no one cares about" life.

:good:

TWC is notorious infamous for these specials for new customers at ~1/2$ as existing customers are paying. Irks me every time I see one of their tickler ads!!!!!!!! TWC responded to a question a few months ago about losing customers and simply said they'd have to make up the lost revenue by charging existing customers more! WTF!!!! Oh yeah, now TWC has merged with Charter and vowed to improve service and their offerings. ALL great PR, but any idiot can foresee higher $$$$.

Today is the big day......I don't have high hopes; I'm not going to be home so I'll leave it up to my wife to work with the installer although I'm only a phone call away.  It doesn't thrill me either to have a stranger in the house when I'm not there too.

Wanna bet I'm going to even MORE pissed when I report back?
