My punishment continued. Three hours in the woods. One gray squirrel and two hikers. At least my mammal count is going up.

Congrats to those who connected. Back out at week's end.

Some turkeys roosted for me otherwise samesies.

The action in the AM will hold me over another 3 or 4 skunk jobs before I'm crying again

The squirrel had size 13 feet so I had about 30 seconds of excitement until I realized what was making the sound.

Last night (Saturday) was almost a washout.......after the heavy rain quit I jumped in an easy access stand considering the wind and saw nothing from 4:30-6:30

This morning I didn't feel great but still hunted until about 9:30am  I took the shotgun and bow with turkey thoughts in mind.  Had about 20 birds go by me (the gun was unloaded and on the ground) and I didn't have any desire to climb down and bust them up after they went by.  Saw 13 deer, two of which were spikes.  Passed on a couple gimme shots on doe due to the lousy way I felt.  Some pretty rare free passes were dolled out today...... :)

The wind and freezing temps sure made for a difficult sit, my feet and hands were cold when I left.  The darn wind and wet leaves sure gave the deer the advantage today IMO, I rely heavily on my ears......

I may need to change my name to worst hunter of all time. Haven't gotten diddly squat near any of my stands at least within 40 yards. Think I only sat 3 times between Friday and today (slept in then went apple picking. Had more fun doing that this weekend) hopefully this coming weekend my luck will change. Hoping to take off Friday after this coming. Maybe then the rut will just be starting and I'll get more deer within range. I love hunting but damn is this season really making me reevaluate my thinking. Mind you this is with record numbers of deer on the property I hunt. Seen mostly doe though and one 4 pointer that hangs with the doe. He may have some mental issues and identify as gender x but alas I am not sure

Good afternoon to have the boys out ....saw 4 in the grapes on the way in. As we approached our entrance point where we decide to either walk the wood line or enter thru the hardwoods we spotted a big doe with two fawns in tow. We played cat and mouse with them for a bit until the boys wanted to jump into the field to see them. As it approached 5:30 the fields came alive. We seen another 3 on the opposite side of the cut corn, then a few in the upper corn field as we were leaving. On the ride out to the road the boys got to watch a fox mousing thru the sheep pasture and another two doe in the grapes.
The boys were pumped and can't wait to get back out!

I am not seeing much either. Sat 4 hrs today, zilch. I would be happy to just see deer in the distance, the two fat grey squirrels didn't excite me much.

Oh seeing deer in the distance hasn't been a problem. Idk what's worse. Seeing deer always at a stand I am not or not seeing any at all. For some reason I always happen to choose the wrong stand. Even perfect conditions usually puts them.at a stand I'd have been busted at instantly. Ahh the joys of hunting.

We should put up a poll. Mark your stands a,b,c etc. Then we can randomly pick which stand. May have better luck lol

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
