Robhuntandfish
Looked at 10 day forecast and decided to pull AC out of window. Looks like some nights in the 40s. I even started up furnace and fireplace to do a check on everything. All is good. Sure seems like a very cool end of Aug/begin of Sept. Hope its not 80 in Oct now.

Red
The 10 day forecast looks beautiful. Like rob said hopefully this didn't come back to bite us in the butts in October. I'm sure we'll have a hot days in October but hopefully not many.
BowmanMike
It only makes it worse,i am soooo ready for October. Waiting this last month is going to be very very hard. I guess i should work my butt off so i dont feel guilty taking time to sit in the woods. My firewood is almost done, just got to get half of it in my basement. Looking good on the checklist... And to make the wait worse, new episodes of the hunting public are starting now too. I have the itch bad enough as it is...
Robhuntandfish
Seems like a lot of the weeds and vines are already dying. Acorns have been dropping.

Took a long and much needed walk in the woods today. Does good for the soul and to clear the head! I had to move from standing under some oaks, because I was dodging falling acorns! DirtTime
I'm also hoping this weather trend sticks. Not looking forward to another early bow season wiping sweat off my face just sitting. I have a backwoods camping trip coming up this weekend. Going to be chilly up in the lower dacks- a high of 68* for Saturday, with Friday and Sunday slightly cooler. Nights in the lower to mid 40*'s. Going to have to make sure we get forage a good amount of firewood for this trip. Looking forward to the colder temps at night a little- I get to make up some chili-mack and bannock for Friday night. Might get them grey squirrels a little more active as well. Can't have an early September camp like this without getting some hunting in, even if it is tree rats.

I use 2 cups self rising flour, a stick of butter, and milk or water. Mix it with a fork to dough consistency, and cook it in a greased pie iron. That stuff is so good. Base: Basic flour Baking powder Salt Water EVO to cook it in I like dicing up a fresh jalapeno when I make it. For this trip I'll be making the dry base up at home, and adding water when I get ready to cook it. I am going with flour, salt, baking powder, and some garlic powder for this one to go with the chili-mac ( by buddy doesn't like spicy food ). I just mix it all in a zip lock bag, snip the end of the bag off and squeeze into pan. Easier clean up in the field that way.

WNYBuckHunter
This weekend, when I got back from vacation, I was walking around the yard and noticed that some of our silver maples, ash and my peach trees are turning color. The one apple in our front yard is almost void of leaves. Temps for my area for the next 10 days are in the high 60s and 70s, and night temps in the 50s. Its getting a bit cooler, but not cool enough for pulling the AC units yet. We will probably have a day or two where they might get used still. My brother is good at making it I had a dude in my group years ago, that made this all the time. I hated it! It was bland. I started making it on my own recently, and now I love it. I do the bare minimum for ingredients, no milk or butter. It's not hard to make really, but the key is you have to pay attention to it while its cooking. The last batch I made with the jalapenos I made a little more then I intended too and I got a bit glutinous with it. This is a great camp bread for those cool nights at camp or in the yard. It's so versatile you really are only limited by your imagination.

We haven't seen one since Wed. 9/4. Just about a week early this year. It won't be long now. Edited September 7, 2019 by Steve D
