I took this eight point Thanksgiving Day. I can see my hunting ground from the house and saw this guy around noon. He disappeared in a small patch of trees (1/2 acre), and I quickly geared up and went after him. I sat for an hour waiting for him to come out after belly crawling into position, but after a while I had to go back home for the Thanksgiving Day meal. I did pass on two smaller bucks during that hour which were chasing does a good ways out, a big four point and a young six point. I kept an eye on the tree patch during dinner and he still never came out, so I skipped dessert and snuck back into position with the homemade shooting sticks. After twenty minutes a doe popped out from the tree patch. Within ten minutes she noticed me, but only realized something was out of place. He then came out behind her, but stayed beneath a dip so I could not get a clear shot. For around twenty minutes the doe was grazing in front of me at sixty yards, spending much more time focused on me than grazing. Fortunately, with my rifle shouldered and in the shooting sticks I never spooked her. Finally the buck moved up enough where I could get a clean shot. The sticks did their job making for an easy steady shot. Entered behind the near shoulder and exited out the front edge of the far shoulder. He ran out of view, but when I called home no one had seen him exit the trees and as he ran off it appeared he took it to the chest. After fifteen minutes I went to find the blood trail, but was greeted by him lying only forty yards from where he was shot. It was even early enough for me to gut and load him up without a light.5 points

Well, let's see now-where to begin. Still going to court for this bs on the car. Went today, the Public Defender proved I had been totally legal-citing all the evidence she had in her file-nonetheless, I have to go to trial to prove my innocence. Apparently, innocent until proven guilty, went out the window. Now, it's guilty until proven innocent. I remember some years ago, when I was hunting on East Mountain in Philipstown. I had this one ECO check me 4 days in a row for my license. I was absolutely legit. On the 5th day, he was up there again, except he had this rookie ECO with him. I was coming out of one section of woods, crossing a dirt road to get to the other section. Once again, I get asked for my license. This time, it was by the new ECO. He told me to put my gun on the car, and show him my license. I said that I would not put the gun on the car, until I unloaded it. This fool kept at it, until I had to comply. When I finally did put the gun on the car (he literally would NOT let me unload it), he told me he could give me a ticket for that. I responded that he told me to do it. The more experienced ECO pulled him aside, and reminded him that he did instruct me to put the gun on the car that way, and told him that giving me a ticket for it would not be such a good idea. The point is, some of them are real pieces of garbage. I respect people when they respect me. And, I do NOT support the police state mentality that seems to be so prevalent today.3 points

It is amazing to me that you even have to be put in this situation with a neighbor... or anyone for that matter. Have people just flat out lost their sense of right and wrong? Not just as a hunter, but as a civilized human being... why would anyone think that it is necessary or a good idea to hunt anywhere close to a neighborhood?? The guy even said he has other places to hunt...THEN HUNT THERE!!! Hopefully "other places" doesn't mean someone elses neighborhood.2 points

8:45 am this morn i got down from my stand and walked to meet up w my hunting buddy, long story short we were just getting ready to start a mini drive when this guy stepped out about 50 yrds away i wispered "stand still!" and brought my gun up i shot and he dropped right over.... needless to say i was and still am SUPER exited! he would be a six point (i think) but he broke his main beam so he is a 4 or 5 im not sure if the main beam is big enough to count.... i am guessing his weight at about 175 and his age at 1.5 yr approx (i shot him with a hornady 150 gr super shock tip bullet in 308 win)1 point

Sad to see how poorly many people here view law enforcement. Obviously there are going to be some bad officers, but those are outnumbered by the good. The little man syndrom? Seriously? Sounds like someone has an issue with authority. Like others have mentioned, follow the law and you won't have problems. If you get a bogus ticket present the case to the judge and it will be the officer who has the issue. They put their lives on the line every day, ECO's included. You feel they don't care about the people then maybe you should look into the effect the job has on LEOs lives. Its tough to manage a family and friendships when work forces you to be watching out for your life at all times and to be suspicious of everything. We expect them to take every call, and sort out all our troubles with other people. When some one else's violation irks you, you feel cheated if they don't get a ticket. But when you violate the law you feel cheated for getting a ticket. Too often it seems that stories of good cops involve a cop showing leniency. I am not saying they should not be lenient in cases, but being lenient is not their job. As for Larry302, I am sure you are special for growing up in a rough city. Just because there are some horrific crimes occuring does not mean we need to neglect the smaller crimes. Seems to me that your city is understaffed, and overpopulated with violators. I have nothing but respect for officers who work in that environment. However, I also respect the men you described as being bored off theior a$$. ECO's approach armed men every day, and often on bad terms. Poachers with sawed off barrels in their cars, meth labs, drunkards, and assist in all law enforcement activities when needed. You sure are tough for being in the vicinity of shootings, next time try stopping the man doing the shooting and see that you don't crap yourself doing it.1 point

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one I guess and that's ok. I hold my opinion that one acre of land is not safe to be hunting with firearms. And, as far as knowing what beyond, that should be no problem because unless your sitting smack dab in the middle of the lot and are over your head in brush you should be able to see a coupe hundred feet without any problem. LOL! Lastly, even on big acres the thought of having a round traveling across onto another's property is a scary thought to me. That is why on my land all my stands are placed so that we fire into my property and never towards my neighbors land. I would rather be overly careful than risk someone getting hurt.1 point

I'm sure we could have a field day if we got a glimpse into some of the job's other people have and how petty most of their task's are.......unfortunately most Law Enforcement Officer's are out there for the public to see and complain about, although it's mostly the violator's who seem to complain the most......not everyone get's to go to work and hide in a cubicle or behind the glass at McDonald's drive through.1 point

I've never had a problem with an eco, and have had eco and biologists on my property trapping turkey and leg banding them. Got to know a few of them well and they stop by to check the harvest every year. Even was a shock to my neighbor who was complaining about my camp shooting all the deer and how we were all over his property, eco took all his info and came to see me, saw no problem with my camp, walked across my line to go see my neighbor in his stand and cited him for salt blocks and baitpiles found while walking his property! karma is a bitch!!1 point

Think it has been sitting for a season, but just in awsome condition. It has some chew on the tip of the g3 and some nawing on the tip of the main beam and brow. Despite that, it has great coloration in the base region for sitting alomst a year. So lucky to finally find one. It was like touching a tit for the first time!!!1 point

With an acre equaling a lot approximately 209' x 209', a person must not be thinking to clear to try an hunt such a small parcel for deer, or anything else for that matter. Discharging a firearm on a one acre lot is reckless and looking to kill someone. Who stops the bullet or slug if you miss your target? And even if you hit your deer, unless you hit it in the head, neck or spine it is not likely to drop in it's tracks. No deer on earth is worth any human getting injured or killed over.1 point

are you 100% without a doubt it is on your piece? If so i would try to handle it nicely.I often think of being a dick because honestly it is part of my nature.I am good at being a mean A-hole.But it wont get me any where with someone that i may be able to get along with in the future. If you just cut it down you will just start a fight and honestly,it is the coward way out if you do it with out talking to them first.I know that confronting them would be the most straight up way.Tell them to move it or you are cutting it down.If they don't move it,then you cut it down and they know who, how, and why it was done. "Don't go sucker punching them.Just tell them whats coming if they want to mess with you".thats what my old man used to tell me. If you cut it down with out confronting them first, they will be trying to retaliate. You never know what kind of crazy you may be dealing with either.1 point

The effect of this fiasco for me? $700 to get my car out of impoundment. Lost my job. Whatever little finances I had are decimated. Yep-works great! The question is-who watches them?1 point

If you are to aggresive you may piss off someone over a honest mistake that could have been easily handled otherwise. Example they may be happy to remove, apologize and even offer to pay to hunt the spot but you destroy their stuff and you come back on the weekend and all of your stands are missing and vandalized and you have no idea who the person is or even worse they act out violently. I'm pretty sure a tree stand isn't worth catching a bullet over!1 point

Have to say WOW again...he proved he did not care that your kids were there last year and continued again this year...what more are you waiting for?...and "don't worry I'm shooting into the hill"??..and he's 100' lower than YOUR FRONT YARD! If I have to explain how seriously dangerous that is...well I'm stunned ...Your going by his word that the other neighbors say it's OK with them?...Hey don't worry though maybe he'll be a great guy and negate your concerns by ...Oh I don't know...taking up archery or a crossbow ...So the noise won't bother or alarm you..then he can shoot anytime your family is out and about..and hey.... put in a target to shoot into against that hill...in your front yard....enough said ...I actually got a headache from this post...1 point

Surveyor - Hope your conversation resolved the issue but I would have called the cops on him because you had already given him the warning the previous year when you saw him scouting your brush. As far as public roads go, I believe you don't have to be 500 feet from them but you can't shoot over one.1 point

Man, stop tripping, he went with poles and kids to the water, that's fishing...period.... and I do have a kid and I'm telling him get a license before you grab those poles and a cooler before you hit the road...don't get hung up on the kids factor here, you are going to the shore/boat with poles and nets, that's fishing bro whether you catch anything or not.....1 point

Good luck hunting and good luck to your sil. When someone with a gun says,"your asking for trouble." That comes real close to menacing or harrassment, me I'd be making a phone call to a friend to at least have him interviewed and get a paper trail started .1 point

Well, I hung that new stand I posted earlier in the week. Sat that evening, and had the spike, he got spooked off. Next morning, saw a nasty 8 point not 15 yards from my stand, followed by a 3 point, then a 4 point(ironically) then a doe. Last night.......... frigging crazy. road hunters everywhere, people partying in a house that we lease out, and the cows got loose so everybody was running trucks and fourwheelers and just being crazy. I was pissed. my girlfriend told me to slide out, and go to one my other spots, but by the time i got out of there and drove to my closest spot it would have been dark. So i waited it out....... At 5:00, i hear BOOM! To close to comfort. Hear a diesel truck start and a wooooohoooo, truck take off, then another shot. I ran out of the stand, saw the truck, but couldnt get anything but red truck diesel. I was pissed right off, and sat at the general area I heard the shot, and no one came around. Anything that close, was our land. Not happy. So, decided to take a morning off, hang with the kids, family, do a few chores. Have thanksgiving dinner, and sit at that stand just because I had a feeling it would be alot more quite. (Thanksgiving is a free meal for the worthless roadhunters) So, at 3:35, I was at thet stand. Walking in, Im hearing dogs barking, people hooting and hollering, and im saying wtf, and other colorful words....., but decide to get in there, and wait it out. At 415, I hear some brushing, then Spike shows up. He got spooked, ran back in the swamp, and 3 doe walk out where he ran in. I took the biggest of the 3, at a meer 286 yards. All tags filled but muzzleloader. Good day for me. Oh yeah, it was over a one mile drag, then a half hour ride back home. She scaled out at 132 lbs dressed. What a fat ass.1 point

It was an awesome opening morning sit, although very short. As soon as I climbed into my stand I had deer in the 50 acre field I was overlooking. I had hardwoods behind me with a standing cornfield on the other side. The leaves in the woods were perfect to alert me of any movement with a nice frost from cold weather. After watching deer move around field right at first light I heard the "crunching" of leaves and this fella came out of the woods 50 yds to my right. Gave me a great opportunity to make a clean shot and I was able to make the most of it. He is not a giant but my second buck ever taken and first since 2007, rough score of 115. My biggest to date.1 point

I took my 16 year old nephew to Letchworth Park today. He got his first deer about 10 minutes after legal shooting time started with his grandfather's very old J.C. Higgins smooth bore 12 gauge pump.He missed the first shot but hit him on the second, the deer went about 200 yards with no blood trail.I am so happy we found him! Picture is from a phone. It was a 6 point buck.1 point

No other hunters in my spot, you'd have to cross fields of 1/2 mile or more in some directions to find another guy . Now in years past before I had control of the land, and everyone drove eveything.... We'd hang up old orange coats and vests in the woods when we left for lunch or another spot. The woods is almost 1,000 feet off the road, so even with bino's one can't tell its just a coat. I've heard of guys hanging very sweaty cut up t shirts upwind of spots...." Larry why you taking yout shirt home from the gym in a zip lock bag ? " About the best way to use the wind i know .1 point

"Republicans had blocked the bill before the election, fearing that passage would boost the re-election prospects of the bill's Democratic sponsor, Montana Sen. Jon Tester." That kind of nonsense is one of the reasons this country is doomed. Its all about them (politicians and their careers) , never about whats best for the rest of us, and BOTH parties are just as guilty as the other.1 point
