  1. All different levels of bowhunters out there. The only one I worry about is me. I do my best, and can't ask for anything more than that.

  2. He had that in quotes...I'm thinking...the season starts later?...Yes it happens every where...ya just have to keep fighting it...and yes "serious " hunters manage to take the big bucks in Sept here as well...I always find it curious. When there are absolutely no seasons open...and the farms are to our south and west . Every single Sept just at velvet drop the nights fill up with all kinds of gun shots just to our north east. How suddenly some well known roamers just disappear never talked about...but a year later are on some guys wall....hhhhmmm.......All you can do in those situations is be the best hunter you can be and take pride in the legal takes you get....

  3. I shoot a ton each year because I love to shoot.I also know guys that don't have the time and don't shoot till the month before season.Does it show?On some hell yes it shows and some it doesnt.Does that mean that the guy who has a max range of 20-25 yards shouldn't go out?No it doesn't.This bickering between hunters really pisses me off,and it needs to stop.I have had bad years where I shot a deer and didn't recover because of various reasons, some were me and some were not.

  4. The real problem is that colleges are way overpriced. No way in hell that college should cost as much as it does. Even the best schools shouldn't cost too much more than a public college. $40 or 50K or more per year for college? Come on. These days many students don't even have to attend class, nor do the professors need to be there, so why these huge costs?? Colleges seem to be a HUGE racket these days and they are getting away with it. But how do we fix this?? My advice to kids is NOT to go to these high priced schools. Some may get great jobs after graduating high priced schools, but everyone won't. If someone is smart and is a good worker, they can end up with great jobs from the lower priced colleges as well. Not worth paying huge amounts to these schools for their name recognition.

  7. I agree that a college education should not be a guaranteed right and that it should not necessarily be funded or subsidized by the government. But, my wife is from Ireland and I think they have an interesting system. Tuition is free, but entrance is by no means guaranteed. Only the best students get in and their system prepares them for the professional workforce very well. Those students works their asses off in high school and preparation for pre-college exams. Their scores on those exams determine if they get into college, which school they qualify for, and what programs they can study- no 'undecided/liberal arts' majors. There are some fees, but tuition is essentially free.

  10. Well tell me what is the problem? What is out in the fields eating the profit 24/7 ? Well yes it's population control and a very small part, both of the permits I mentioned account for 2% of the deer take so it's a very small part . To be honest I don't use doe permits because the farm gets dmaps ,so there are more permits in the system for everyone in the zone to get and use. When friends come hunt with me and they don't have tags for our area I can give them dmaps, more then a few guys took does hunting with me that otherwise could not. I'd give you two. I see benefit for many here.

  11. Real men play by the rules. Real hunters hunt by the code. Honor the code and respect yourself.

  12. I agree it is a serious issue; however, in the grand scheme of things, you can't let it breed jealousy or hate and let it take away from your enjoyment of playing by the rules. If you see it, report it; otherwise, focus on how you can score the big bucks the right way.

  13. I agree with this too. As hard as it is to justify the price, if you try on an UA jacket and then try on a field and stream jacket the difference is night and day. Do deer care? Of course not. With the 100 different camo patterns out there, do you need the matching pants? No. Will the deer notice if your pants are mossy oak and your jacket realtree ap? No.However if you want comfortable, breathable, waterproof and warm you're going to pay. I like the tight fitting jackets for bow as it keeps the stuff away from my string. With gun? You can kind of wear whatever you want as long as it's warm haha. I bought a pair of UA gloves off clearance in March. They retail for $74. Unbelievable for gloves. But my hands don't sweat. They're warm and waterproof. But they were $30 on sale. That's when you need to buy.

  15. Govt. tell many other industries what they can charge for their services. Medical comes to mind. I think that industry is a run away train. I agree on the no interest loans for college but it should only be for specified majors. A 4 year degree in Australian Aboriginal studies should not be considered. If the colleges want to offer it, fine. IF a student wants to take it, fine. There should be no aid, no interest loans for it.

  16. Sorry, but a college education is not something that should be guaranteed for everyone. You already get a high school education on the tax payers dime. You want to get a better job than that will get you? Work for it, aka pay your own way. What the hell is with this entitlement mentality now days? What happened to EARNING things and being proud of it? Sorry if that offends you, but if the shoe fits...

  17. They need a study to figure out that Debt curbs the purchasing of high cost items? Shocking... This is nothing but the sowing of seeds to forgive student loan debt, or let the government hand out free college educations to everyone, all on the tax payers dime.

  19. I am a fairly new archery hunter ( just don't get out much) never connected on a shot. I am trying to understand why shooting with a modern compound bow is hard. All the new sights releases and all the other add ons really make it a point and shoot. Hunting is a different story I'll give you that just drawing with a deer in range alone is a task. But the shooting part imo is pretty straight forward and I don't understand why anyone would need to shoot 100s if not 1000s of arrows down range. I don't shoot that much with anything and am incredibly confident with all my weapons of choice. I'm not trying to start a argument I am asking why would I ot anyone need to shoot thay much. Seems like 15-20 shots consistently in the bull at the desired range a few times before season would be more than enough...if I am missing something please inform me

  21. I had the exact feeling going into the ultrasound, while out of honest truth I was a bit bummed when I found out it was a girl. Today as I hold my 3 week old daughter, I couldn't be happier. I plan to take her hunting, fishing and teach her how to fend for herself. As I think back, these are all the exact same reasons why I fell in love with her mother. As it's in god's hands, whatever you have hope that it may be healthy and so much the same for mom. The rest kinda just falls in place. Good luck!! btw great names.

  22. I have a 17 yo girl and 13 yo boy. Both completely different in more ways than one. First off pray for what ever you get is healthy. Second be thankful it is healthy. My daughter at a young age showed an interest in hunting then she discovered something more interesting... Dolling up and boys!! Lol. My son on the other hand - give him an xbox, food and a bathroom and he's happy...well... until he discovers girls... At least I do have a hunting buddy for now...

  23. Just because something cost $300 doesn't make it a bad buy. If you get a long usable life out of it and it does the job you want it to do, then it is worth it. Maybe you can get the same from a $100 jacket or pants, maybe not. Only you can decide what the likelihood is. I have an IWOM that cost be around $300. I'll probably use it 1-2x a season most years. Last year, I hunted with it more because of unusually super colder temps in gun season. It was brutally cold. I could have layered every single piece of hunting clothing I had and I still wouldn't have been able to hack it. I slipped that thing on and hung out for 6 hours without so much as a thought of being cold. I could have shot several does had I wanted to, an opportunity I wouldn't have had otherwise. If I wear it 25-30x in ten years, that's a minor cost investment for those conditions in my mind. Heck, I'd spend about that much just in gas getting to the hunting spot.

  26. College costs average 30k a year not incl dorming costs, that brings it close to 40k a year. We have a whole generation that is being put into servitude and that's not American. I'm hearing some of the familiar Conservative farts in the wind that education shouldn't be free or that parents should have saved the 600k for their 3 kids college costs, that's all hogwash. No one wants free education, we want affordable education, and this problem of our young people being saddled with this debt will surely sink this country.

  27. LOL G-man...did you forget who your talking to?...It's a good idea but it's me!...See that could work at camp ...perfect wind direction.... but I'd be sitting in the stand when the sirens went off and get down to find the grill was ablaze and the wind swirled catching the camp on fire...about the time I'd arrive the flames would be marching through all the dried oak leafs taking on the beech and iron wood in the understory....Pretty sure I could not talk Mr B out of being wildly mad at me for that one.....

  30. Well here the hope....that if they aren't proficient enough then when the deer comes into range...they will have happen what happened to me the first year...BTW with a year of practice under my belt..Go to draw back the string and realize I might as well been pulling on an I-beam...for it wasn't about to move...lol

  31. I picked up a compound for the first time 2 weeks before my first season. I was able to kill 3 that first year. I don't think I have any special talent. Rather, I really don't think its all that tough to become reasonably proficient with a modern compound bow in a short time if you practice. I know I had 3" groups or less at 20yds before the season started that first year. That said, if you are missing a plate 70% of the time at 20yds, you should not be hunting with a bow. That person is not reasonably proficient with a bow and is very likely to wound vs. kill deer. I just don't think its ethical. I am not criticizing the kids for practicing, but they need more of it before flinging an arrow at a deer. IMHO.

  34. Had my buck from last year dipped in Predator Fall Gray. Came out nice. Back buck is my FIL's first in 40 years. Not a huge fan of the basic euro, but think the dips add a bit of character to it. I was wearing that camo when I shot it anyway. Ignore the attack dog in the background.

  35. When I was a young lad I shot 8 months out of the year. now I pick up my bow about a month before and shoot maybe once a week. for me it doesn't matter how much I practice..results are the same....center ring. I know some guys who are awesome at practice but not so much while hunting. Many other factors than muscle memory etc comes into play while hunting.

  40. haha no I don't (or any other bars for that matter) and that's my point. I don't really care what others think of my camo clothes or my camo JEEP. Have we really become so meek as to let other people dictate how we dress? hmmm a song comes to mind.

  43. Although I live in the southern tier, I choose to not wear any camo...prefer a low profile. I see many hunters wearing their camo jackets all winter with back tag attached buying food and beer while smoking. I know people are hurting financially, but they sell jackets/coats cheap at thrift stores.

  46. My son shot this bear last week. I got to watch the whole thing from my tree stand. While he was on the ground 20 feet away. I was very proud. He is only 15 years old and this was his first big game kill. He took the time to wait to make sure it was alone and then the bear winded him and bolted. He hit the bear with the first shot while it was on a full run. He is going to be a great hunter.

  47. If you bring a standard hunting rifle, wooden unadjustable stock, no pistol grip, nothing plasticor scary that makes it look like a military weapon you "should" be OK. DON'T Bring a handgun or a rifle that scares democrats, that could land you in prison.
